Korres Wild Rose Mineral Foundation Review, Swatches, Photos

When Bare Minerals started breaking out on the scene I was all about trying it myself. Flawless, lightweight coverage? Yes please! Now this was years and years ago, I’m talking about infomercial days. I instantly ordered a kit, proceeded to get it, and was sorely disappointed at how awful it was.

Till this day I’m a big fan of what Bare Escentuals has become but still can’t tolerate their mineral foundations.

I’m now always quite wary of trying out new mineral foundations, they simply aren’t my bag, but I was curious about the new Korres Wild Rose Mineral Foundation for a number of reasons plus I love and trust the brand so if anyone was going to excel at mineral foundation it had to be Korres right?

Let’s have a look!

A talc-free, 100% natural loose powder foundation with brightening Wild Rose extract.

This particularly sounded appealing due to the brightening Wild Rose extract as I had hopes it would ease dullness. It also promises to diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and even out skin tone.

It’s possibly one of the more pricier products from Korres at $28. I’m so used to cheaper makeup and product offerings from Korres I admit that the price had my mouth hanging up ever so slightly.

It has an SPF 30 which definitely get props from me as that’s quite a nice dose of sun protection.

The foundation is getting rave reviews all around but for me it wasn’t such a rave….

I have to admit I was perplexed that they included a sponge with the foundation. Why? I can only assume they though it would be an easier solution for bacteria issues as you can easily wash the sponge but does anyone honestly apply minerals or powders with a sponge? Application with a sponge is impossible, I tried. I thought that this would produce some new and interesting effect during application but all it succeeded in doing was tugging across my face and applying the foundation in a patchy, splotchy way.

I proceeded to try with both a kabuki and a puff but nothing really redeemed the formula. The creamy texture that Korres promised just isn’t there and the powder makes my face look rather tired and mask-like. You can tell I have makeup on which isn’t the effect anyone wants.

  • Those with oily skin may fine the joy here.
  • Those who have smooth, normal skin.

  • Those with dry skin or an uneven skin surface to work with (this will apply patchy and uneven).
  • Those wanting lightweight coverage (this didn’t feel light at all but quite heavy to me).
  • Those who haven’t had success with mineral foundation in the past (the formula isn’t groundbreaking in the realms of mineral foundation so if you’ve tried minerals before without success you’ll find this produces the same results overall).

I personally didn’t love this one but its gotten quite a good deal of rave reviews perhaps it’s just my skin at the moment as I’m quite dry in this Winter air. The finish of the product was very unflattering and just seemed to make my dull skin even more dull. I felt like I had makeup on and looked like I had on it too which accounts for two major “do not wants” when it comes to my base products.

Overall, Korres Wild Rose Mineral Foundation wasn’t a fav. I’m quite saddened as I’ve never had to give Korres a bad review before but this one simply wasn’t doing the trick.

Anyone try it?

Well, luckily I wasn’t going to do anymore mineral powder foundation for a while….but that is still really diappointing

    • the Muse

Anie looks like success with oily comments according to Laci so if you have oily skin maybe check it ;D!

  • MC

I like a lot of Korres products, so I will probably try it since I try to find a mineral foundation that I will eventually like. The only mineral foundation I found to actually do a good job with my skin is UD’s.

  • Laci

I bought it just before Christmas when it came out (because I adore Korres) and I love it. I do, however, have oily skin so maybe that’s the difference. It gives me great coverage and doesn’t appear cakey like BE did on me. I use this when I’m not wearing my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.

I agree about the sponge though. The only use I’ve found for it is to keep the product in the jar just in case it shifts. LOL I use the Sephora brand #45 mineral powder brush (which is awesome — I even bought a second one for regular powder blushes).

laci I’m going to retest in the Summer when I’m a bit more oily ;-D good to know it works well on oily skin! The sponge was odd wasn’t it!? I was thinking WTH!?

    • Beautiful Canvas

I agree with Laci, this foundation is quite nice on me. It just melt into my skin, look so natural, non powdery at all. Muse, maybe you can give it a try again when the weather is warmer or something.

  • Christina

Awww man that makes me really sad! I was really hoping for a stellar rec! Sigh. Onward to re-experimenting and tinkering!

    • the Muse

christina, laci had a good experience so if you’re oily you might wanna check it out ;D!

  • Andrea

I tried this…I didn’t have an exact color match – the lightest shade is still too dark for me….but I did wear it for a while at home one day to see what it’s like. I thought it didn’t cover well and made me look too shiny. Mineral foundations do tend to make my skin clearer overall (I’m super acne prone), so I want to like them…but they just look too powdery. I’m still hanging onto this foundation. I may give it another chance in the summer when my skin will be a little different than it is now.

    • the Muse

andrea same here back in the bin until summer for me. question are you oily or dry at the mom?

        • the Muse

good to know Andrea ;-D! helps everyone who want to try it knowing how it worked on various skin types!

  • sana

I never had any luck with powder mineral foundations. the only occasions they actually set on me was on the hottest summer days, and my skin is not near dry even in winter. but what i really hate are all those polishing circular motions – they don’t blend the foundation into my skin! they just irritate my skin. and me

    • the Muse

same here sana, far from sensitive but all that buffing def does nothing for my skin 😛

  • cait

yup i heard great reviews on this so i bought it…it was so disgusting on my dry skin….made me look all flaky and like it was caked on. There also seemed to be a weird shimmer in it which wasn’t too flattering. Back to Sephora it went! Thank God for their return policy..lol

    • the Muse

cait must be our dry skin maybe? I’m gonna try again in Summer and HOPE it might work!? I love korres but this one did nothing for me 🙁 I wonder if I should wait or return hm!

  • Maggie

Aw, Muse, you’re a life(wallet) saver! I’ve been wondering about this product for the last couple days, since BE turned out to be kind of a bust for me too. Have you tried the Lancome Ageless mineral foundation? I was considering that in the alternative, but mineral foundations might just have to wait til summer when my skin isn’t dry and flaky.

    • the Muse

hey mags ;-D aw shucks thanks! if you’re oily though you might wanna try as oily types seemed to have gotten on well with it. haven’t tried Ageless but LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE oscillation. ;-D It’s my HG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rose

I’m more on the oily side lately so still wanting to try this. so far the only mineral powder I’ve used that much is the UD one because it’s so easy to keep in my purse & I can swipe on quickly but I’d rather trust Korres not to clog my pores

  • haley

about the sponge that comes with it.. one day i walked into my moms bathroom and saw her applying her BE foundation with a sponge. it was a red sponge that came with my laura geller real deal stick foundation. i was like mom.. what are you doing thats not for mineral foundation.. and she was like well it works for me, and it actually applied her foundation extremely well.. way better than a brush did for her. maybe it just depends on the person? she has really oily skin.. thats the only good explanation i can get out of it because i tried it on my skin and it was a major fail. hmm. just wanted to share 😀

    • the Muse

interesting hayley I find it tugs ;-D unless I wet it, than it applies smooth ;D!

  • Stavroula Plag

Try it again in the summer, maybe it will work then 🙂 I want to try it, I have oily skin, so it will propably work for me 🙂 x

  • NESHA

I am also disappointed in the poor results you had with this product. Did you use primer?

  • Rose

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows where I can get Korres organic essential oils. I bought a lavender and a geranium last year on vacation in Greece but it seems that they’re only sold there. I live in the U.S. and I can’t find them anywhere on the internet which seems really odd. The quality was amazing and I really want to try the others and restock on the lavender and geranium. Please help!
