Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Mineral Correcting Pebbles Review

Dude, I can’t get that little jingle out of my head about how “They’re magically delicious!” after snatching up the new Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Mineral Correcting Pebbles. Add some oats in, pour the milk, and indeed they’ll be magically delicious!

No seriously, don’t go around gobbling these little guys down, they are meant for your face not as part of your healthy breakfast (how is sugary cereal part of a healthy breakfast anyway!?).

Let’s check ’em out!

A selection of color correcting pebbles to ease dullness, illuminate skin, and create a perfect canvas for makeup!

These versatile pebbles promise a range of great color correcting techniques. Brighten skin, ease dullness, even out skin tone, the works, you name it and it promises to do it!

They come housed in a deep compact which features a stealthy dual compartment to house the pebbles in one place and a brush, puff, and mirror in the other.

Each pebble is a different shades and performs a different function. Green tones down redness, yellow adds warmth, and pink brightens.

Sadly, these fail to work for me.

First off thank god they thought to include both a puff and a brush because as always they really fail with the creation of their brushes. This one is particularly shabby and poorly made. It feels scratchy, sheds terribly, and just has an overall cheapness that’s somewhat unforgivable.

The pebbles in theory sound great but they apply patchy on my dry skin and do nothing in the realms of brightening or easing dullness. These accentuate dry areas and leave behind a dusky film that’s not particularly pretty. Instead of a smooth, even layer, the finish comes across flaky, splotchy, and uneven.

  • Those with perfect skin may benefit (if your skin is youthful and super smooth sans dry or oily areas these may apply well and possibly illuminate).

  • Those with dry or oily patches (you’ll notice they apply rather badly if your skin has drier areas or oily ones).
  • Those wanting to brighten dull skin (I didn’t see much difference).

I honestly failed to see the benefits here and doubt the product will work even on perfect skin but don’t quote me here. I was personally disappointed in the overall quality and performance of the pebbles.

Note: I didn’t swatch as the product appeared transparent in photos.

Give me Guerlain any day!

Anyone try ’em?

How did they work out for you?

I’m a profesional makeup artist and I’ll admit, I’ve never understood how these multi-colored correctors are supposed to work. Sorry, But basic color theory teaches that combining green and pink in one container would actually cancel one another out (and can actually cause, as you noticed, a gray cast- that’s why the tan & yellow bits are added.)

I’ve been tempted by the Guerlain meteorites because they consistently garner such high praise, but outside of that, I think most of these mulitcolored primer/corrector products are just hooey!

    • the Muse

hey Jessica I always wonder about that too ;D! Nice to hear from a pro that indeed it’s a gimmick ;D!

I really like Guerlain’s version, they seem to illuminate well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

  • jamie

i found it to look pretty cheap in the drugstore.. quite a poor imitation of guerlain’s meteorites? lol

but its like 1/100000 of the price so no complaints 🙂

  • Julianne

That’s sad that it failed to work. I was just about to go buy and try it out myself. Thank you for saving me some money 🙂

    • the Muse

my pleasure julianne, maybe try it out anyway, keep your receipt though ;-D ya never know it might impress you! Sadly not the case for me yak!

Am I the only one that went and counted how many green, pink, yellow and champagne pebbles were in the picture?

I was so tempted by this but I think I’ll pass on this and go get me some Lucky Charms instead.

  • Quinctia

Huh, I was thinking this was going to be more like a loose version of their swirly colored pressed powder–which got a few good reviews.

I’ve never liked a PF brush…wait, there was a tiny, tiny one in a small cream concealer palette of theirs that was usable once. But that’s one out of many of their products I’ve used!

    • the Muse

i kinda liked the version qunctia I have a review up somewhere on that ;-D ha seems a never ending cycle with their brushes just awful 😛

  • Liz

    Hey Muse,
I find your reviews very helpful in deciding weather I should buy a product or not. In the future, can you post the photos of the failed products that you’ve tried on? I know you said this Physicians formula cancels out in photos, but I’d like to see it for myself and evaluate if it will work for my skin tone.

    • the Muse

I’ll see what I can do Liz but mostly if it doesn’t show up in photos I end up ditching the photo 🙂

I am on the fence about this one, it is sitting at home on top of the CVS receipt, I meant to get the translucent and grabbed the creamy natural instead. I am digging the Mineral Pearls one though, although I only use it on my cheeks since these are all sparkly. I will give it one more try and not really think about the “corrective” idea and think about it more as an uber mild highlighter/illuminator. I will agree that PF brushes leave a lot to be desired, I have gotten the rare decent one. The brush in the new bronzing pearls is wider and softer. If you like the flat style brush try the one from Mary Kay, it works great for travel and its cheap as chips too!

    • the Muse

thanks kiwi will see about the mary kay one ;-D mmm highlighter yes, that’s about right as it really doesn’t brighten. sadly it also comes across badly on my dry skin 😛 very patchy and aging 🙁

i got transulcent since im kinda pale. my cousins friend told me ifi got the other one i would have looked orange. must say its a bit to metalic/ sparkly but i did see a great difference on my skin . put it on / above the cheak bones and above and around the neck area. see differece in photos to. not as much attention drawn to my blemishes becaue my face looked brighter. i really had a nice glow to my skin rather them my oily acned face before.

I know I’m about 3 years late to the party. But I actually just stumbled upon this product at a dollar store…which usually means discontinued. But I can’t imagine why…I LOVE IT. I ground up the pearls to a loose powder and it makes the perfect highlighter and all-over face powder…it gives that perfect lit-from-within glow. I’m going to be mad when I run out.
