I make no secret of my love for The Skin Food Salmon Dark Circle Brightening Powder however it proves a bit of a pain in the arse to find stateside. The Skin Food is a rather wonderful brand sold in Korea and other Asian countries but locating it online and proceeding to go through the hassle of jacked up pricing, airmail, etc…to get it can be tiresome for some. I’m lucky enough to have friends in Korea who indulge my makeup junkie nature and grab me items however I’m always looking for possible dupes of products that do the same thing and can be found locally for readers of Musings.

Sonia Barely There Loose Powder Makeup Colorless Matte is quickly turning into a fond fav of mine so much so that I feel comfortable recommending it as an alternative if you’re unable to get your hands on Salmon Dark Circle Brightening Powder.

A finely milled, matte finishing powder!

I casually picked this up at Target a few weeks ago for $8.99 and was quite surprised at how great it works at setting concealer. Mind you it isn’t nearly as fabulous as the Skin Food version I hold so near and dear to my heart but for what it’s worth I’d say it does the job and does it well.

The powder is soft and finely milled. It isn’t drying even though the finish is a matte, transparent white. I was a tad worried when I read “matte” but the texture is so soft and delicate that you won’t have any problems using it to set your makeup sans the drama of creasing under your eyes due to dryness. It didn’t age my eyes nor did it settle into fine lines, it did however leave behind a very subtle brightening effect and works fabulous at setting my concealer for all day wear.

I swept it under my eyes after I had my concealer in place using my trusty dual sided Bobbi Brown Concealer Brush (kinda looks like MAC’s bushy blending brush which you can also use in place of Bobbi’s version if you don’t have it). Although transparent when used on my face I get a very subtle brightening effect under my eyes so any harsher lines or darkness that my concealer failed to cover, this easily brightens these areas out and leaves behind a flawless, airbrushed finish.

You can use it on your face as well to set your makeup. It has a very comfortable finish even on my dry skin however I highly suggest and recommend it for under eye concealing.

Compared to Skin Food’s version I find the powder has a more velvety, lighter feel and texture. It’s not nearly as good but it comes up close particularly when you simply can’t bother going through the drama of getting your hands on products from abroad.

I liked this alot and felt it did a rather great job of not only setting my concealer for all day wear but also woke up my tired eyes. If you’re a fan of Salmon Dark Circle Brightening Powder and want to be able to get something locally, I’d try this out or maybe just looking to try something new, check this out.
