Stila Coconut Crush Lip & Cheek Stain Review, Swatches, Photos

Ahh new season, new Stila Lip Crush. I think we are heading onto our seventh generation of the product now. So that’s seven shades you can select from yay!

I think they should gather them all up, package them together, and slap a ribbon on ’em for Holiday 2011 eh? I like ’em so much I’d totally buy a complete set.

The newest generation is the Stila Coconut Crush Lip & Cheek Stain. Since we tackled every other fruit, coconut sounds like a good one to try out next!

Jump!

A lip and cheek stain infused with nourishing coconut extract!

As with all the stains that Stila has introduced this one is infused with coconut (we’ve had mango, cherry, acai, etc…). Supposedly coconut extract provides an antioxidant protection to slow the degeneration of collagen and help prevent premature aging but I dunno if a tiny bit infused in your cheek stain and slicked on your face and lips will go so far as to keep you youthful but one can hope eh?

This shade is probably the most wearable in the collection for most skin types. Most of the stains are gorgeous however they can be pretty bright, bold, and vibrant where as Coconut Crush leans towards being more subtly pretty with a champagne rosy bronze finish. The shade won’t look fabulous on super fair skin (it might come across a tad muddy) however medium fair and up should see a kiss of warmer rose on lips and cheeks.

Pigmentation is quite good however not nearly as loud and bold as past colors. The click pen allows you to brush onto cheeks and lips easily and the gel-like formula allows for easy blending without a splotchy finish. The formula is quite moisturizing, blends easily, and leaves behind a nice kiss of color without being overly done.

In my experience with the product it wears quite long on my face however not as long on my lips. I noticed that my other Lip Crushes wear all day and Coconut Crush I can get about six hours in before it begins to fade on my cheeks. On my lips I can get about three hours in however if I eat or drink during that period it fades faster.

I’m not particularly keen on using the lip brush on my face and proceeding to follow up on my face and vice versa. I think Stila should revamp the packaging on these. Although I think the brush is quite convenient I still feel like it’s a bit nasty to use on my face and lips…!

  • Those who like bronze-y shades of rose and want a kiss of the sun on cheeks and lips.
  • Those who love the Stila Lip Brush range (if you loved the other shades, you’ll love this shade).
  • Those who want a long wearing, lightweight flush of color on cheeks.
  • Those who embrace a more minimal makeup look (a dab on cheeks will give a natural flush of color that wakes your face up!).

  • Those with extra fair skin.
  • Those wanting an all day wear from their stain on both lips and cheeks.

Coconut Crush isn’t my favorite stain from the Crushes but I do think it’s the most wearable shade. I was a little disappointed in the wear time but aside from that I liked. The stain does indeed have a slight coconut scent and taste but nothing too bad that will upset sensitive types. If you’re looking for something to brighten up your face after a long Winter hibernation this is one to do it!

Yay! I’ve been waiting for this review lol I’m a little sad over the short wear time on the lips. Nevertheless I am definately going to pick this up now ;D

    • the Muse

;-D! Cj nice color little week on the lips, color isn’t bright enough or pigmented enough to last as long as the other shades they do, but not too bad! Love it on my cheeks, really glows!

      • Cj

Ooh I’ll deff have to try it on my cheeks then! I don’t think I’ve ever used a blush that color b4 lol. Oh and about the application problem, What I do is when I want to use the stains on my cheeks I’ll just dab some of the product on the back of my hand and apply it with my fingers instead of straight from the brush. That atleast seems a little more hygienic right? Lol

        • the Muse

good idea CJ ;-D! Have you tried any of the crushes before? You’ll like this shade if you have as the others are SUPER bold and this is more subtle ;D!

          • Cj

Yeah I have a couple of em actually 🙂 The cherry and yumberry ones.

          • the Muse

cj so this is a great one ;-D it applies alot more subtly than those ;-D you’ll be surprised at how nice it is. I thought it was “normal” and tame compared to my other shades :D!

I totally agree with you on the non hygenic brushes. When I used to work at sephora we would cut the tips of the brushes so that people could use them with their own lipbrushes. I did that at home with my own stila glosses bc those brushes can get pretty gross lol.

    • the Muse

mmm the idea of using it on my face after my mouth kinda makes me curl my nose up crissy ;D!

I really like coconut coffee creamer so maybe that should be my justification for it. I’ve had it in and out of my cart a million times. I have 3 of the crush pens and dont like them on my cheeks at all and agree short wear time on lips yet I need coconut stuff in my life….ugh if it was just a few dollars less I wouldn’t be so hesitant.

    • the Muse

coconut coffee creamer? whoa never tried that melissa ;-D I’m not a coffee drinker but sounds delish! wait for the Holidays bet they do some kit or set ;D!

      • Melissa

I bet your right and i want the acai berry one too but it seems like I can spend $48 in a much better way. (like the qvc tarte kit lol

Thanks for the thorough review! I’ve never used a lip stain before (I’m also the type that doesn’t wear lip gloss- too tacky – so I wear lipstick and use lip balm mostly.) My favorite lipstick, because of the color, is a bronzy-peachy-rose-shimmer (but not glittery!) one from Estee Lauder (“cafe latte”). This EL shade is also very similar to Korres Mango Lipstick in “Naked Rose”. I’m thinking the Stila Coconut Crush might be something like these and have the staying power they don’t offer. But the fact that you mention it could become “muddy” on those with fair skin worries me. (I’m fair skinned, blue eyes, dark blonde hair.) I like the idea of staying more rosey…. Can I ask you what you skin tone is? (And eye color and all that?) How close is it to being muddy on you? Is it more of a nude color? I’d visit Sephora myself and try it in person but the only problem is that there isn’t one within 100 miles of me. (So I’m limited to online shopping.) Thanks for you time!

hi sam sorry for the delayed reply. Stains are fab for longer wear ;-D brown eyes, dark brown hair, but not sure of my skin tone in terms of say a mac foundation, I’m medium fair with beige undertones. It’s a rosy nude on me. Hope this helps. If you shop online you can do free returns via sephora.com 🙂 No problem at all I hope the advice is helpful? It’s hard recommending something for someone having never seen them. I have the pom one but it’s pretty vibrant. I reviewed it a while ago https://www.musingsofamuse.com/2009/02/stila-pomegranate-crush-review.html

      Hope this helps 🙂

  • sam

p.s. I was also considering the Pomegranate color…. whaddya think? Too dark? (Of course, I’m not comparing the Pom color to a bronzy-rose!…. but more like a YLBB color with a pop.)

thanks again! (hopefully it’s okay if I ask for personal advice in the comments section?….)

  • Ruthless

I got this, it’s lovely and it doesn’t wear long on lips (boo) I don’t like the brush either, I always use my fingers
