The Skin Food Black Raspberry Eye Cream Review

The Skin Food Black Raspberry Eye Cream caught my eye because of the sweet packaging that looks like a little jar of jam. Sweet isn’t it?

But it also had my attention because I’m an absolute fool for any eye creams the Korean brand puts out. I really love their eye creams but they have one major quirk….

Jump ahead!

An eye cream that contains anti-oxidant black raspberry extract and anti-aging peptides to repair wrinkles while moisturizing dry under eyes!

As I mentioned above the packaging is really rather sweet as it’s a wrapped jar that mimics the look of a jar of old fashion, hand made raspberry jam. Removing the outer wrapping reveals a generously sized jar of eye cream.

For some odd reason I was under the impression it might just smell like raspberries but it actually has an odd herbal dirt smell that was at first unpleasant to my nose but with daily use I ended up somehow liking the scent.

The cream itself is firm to the touch yet creamy. It absorbs easily and leaves behind a nice smooth finish. I like using this in the PM since it is pretty rich however it’s perfectly fine for daily use as well just use sparsely to avoid your concealer slipping and sliding around. I love how moisturizing this is. It really revitalizes and hydrates my very dry under eyes. I actually enjoyed it so much I’m on my second jar!

However….

Like most of the Skin Food Eye Creams I tried it really doesn’t do much in the ways of easing puffiness or fine lines. I really don’t notice any noticeable difference around my eye area aside from the fact that it really eases dryness. Hey, what more could a girl want right? As I always find it hard to find the richest eye cream to moisturize my tired eyes without causing a hooded look or Milia. This does neither so at the least I’m extra grateful for that plus the hydration is worth its weight in gold!

  • Those with dry eyes seeking a quality eye cream to hydrate the area without causing Milia seeds, puffiness, or a hooded, tired look.
  • Those who want moisture around their eyes but not necessarily an eye cream that treats aging (if you’re well into your youth and have no need of an eye cream for aging issues this will easily treat your dryness without the drama of a harsher formula).

  • Those wanting an anti-aging eye cream.
  • Those wanting an eye cream to treat the signs of aging.
  • Those unwilling to shop online for skincare (this is available exclusively Asian countries so shopping online is key for purchase).

It has its issues but The Skin Food Black Raspberry Eye Cream still manages to deliver a solid, moisturizing experience at the very least and really I can’t help but love it for just that. Add in a little depuff action and some fine line treatment and I’d be ever so inclined to Muse Approve it.

Quite nice but pretty basic eye cream. Worth a haul for those youthful eyes that suffer from dryness but not necessarily fine lines or the signs of early aging. Fab one for the drier eyes out there but don’t expect too many miracles aside from hydration.

Can I ask where you purchased this? I know there’s SaSa and eBay (which I do get scared about, haha) but I’m just wondering if you get them from those places or elsewhere? 🙂

    • the Muse

hi ssaem a friend in Korea got it for me. Singapore site ships Internationally but prices are quite hefty compared to korean retail!

  • Makeup Morsels

hmmm I bought their Potiron au Lait eye cream this summer. It smells absolutely divine, but I think it caused a little bit of milia on my undereyes. I usually use it on my cheeks when they’re drying out now, the smell is just so comforting~

    • the Muse

aw sorry to hear it makeup morsels I didn’t have any prob with milia when I use skin food eye creams thankfully :D!

  • jac-kie

wow Muse can’t believe you’re onto your second jar – eye cream takes me forever to use! Especially now i’ve got 2 separate ones for day & night & the night one is the skinfood salmon brightening eye cream in it’s giant jar!

doesn’t really brighten in my opinion but hydrates & smells nice.

for day i use the garnier roller ball tint thing – doubles as concealer but i put salmon undereye concealer on top anyway.

    • the Muse

hi jackie been using it over a year so I just repurchased another one 🙂 I haven’t tried the brightening eye cream but was tempted….

  • Melissa

This sounds awfully similar to the “au lait” one that I adore and it smells super good. I wonder if it is the same formula with different fragrance? Have you tried it? (same type of packaging/jar too)

    • the Muse

melissa I like the au lait too. They have very similar textures but au lait is def creamy and less dense. diff fragrance for sure. but promise the same things as well!

  • Nunuiviet

I tried it because I receive like over 20 samples of that stuff, find it very moisturizing, with strong herbal scent but I like it, because I’m Asian and I like medicinal herbs made from dried plants and woods hahahhaahaha
But yes it doesn’t do anything for the fine lines, my major problem is one fine line under my right eye which irritates me because when I apply foundation it’s even more noticeable! I bought myself a eye cream from their high end Korean brand ( similar to lancome in Korea) which is called sulwashoo a jar of 50 ml cost me over 150$ almost 200 and I bought at the duty free! Imagine how much it cost outside!? Anyway, haven’t tried it yet but will soon, because I’m finishing my eye hope from philosophy helps in dark circles but not for fine lines! Disappointed will not rebuy. Already used Kose sekkisei eye cream but also disappointed because too oily and it stings your eyes, hate it so far… Tried the no 7 eye cream and it didn’t do anything at all! Still looking for an HG eye cream which would be good and doesn’t cost too much like la mer! Which will be out of my league hahahahha

    • the Muse

ahhh nunu Philosophy eye cream never did anything for me either don’t feel bad. Tried every single one and never had success with ’em! I like La Mer and it was HG for a while but honestly feel like it isn’t battling the puff as well as it once did 🙁 so I’m still hunting for my HG too!

  • Nia

Thanks for the review, appreciated as usual 🙂 Moisture for my skin under the eyes sounds great.
Would you mind posting the ingredients?

    How are you doing? 🙂

  • Phyrra

Aww, too bad it doesn’t smell like raspberries. What’s your favorite eyecream currently?

  • Millie Yip

    Hi Muse,
I used the same eye cream when I was in Korea a couple years ago and seriously didn’t like it either hehe, after about a month or so of use i purchased the paul and joe one instead on a trip to hong kong. What a waste, but at least it wasn’t super expensive

  • yuki

Ooo… I saw this cream before but I tried to stay clear of their eye cream after having a bad experience with their Salmon brightening eye cream… It gave me some milia seeds under my eyes!! Thank goodness I used the samples… phew… You should travel to Korea… They hand out free samples at all the shops… I was able to test then and there what was good before purchasing the full sized product 🙂

  • Ling

Hi Muse! Thank you for posting this-love asian brands. Curious–is there an eye cream you’ve tried that actually *does* do something for fine lines?

    • the Muse

ling I have minor fine lines due to dryness so any moisturizing eye cream is good with me. I did notice some blurring of fine lines with DermaDoctor Wrinkle Revenge however anything else I’ve tried hasn’t really improved fine lines. If you’re younger your lines are prob simply from fine lines so make sure to keep the area hydrated and you’ll notice your eyes will look WAY better 🙂 however, if you’re older and you’re having issues with fine lines due to maturing eyes, well, sadly I can’t offer a recommendation since I really haven’t experienced the problem yet fully 🙂

  • Jiji

Dear Muse, thank you very much for the review. I’m considering about purchasing this product but still not sure about it. I have problems with dark circle. Please give me some recommendations. Thank you!

    • the Muse

hi jiji glad you enjoyed the review 🙂 sorry I don’t have any recs for dark circles outside of concealer. I’ve used alot of eye creams and such but nothing really gets rid of dark circles, it’s best to conceal them 🙂

  • micaela

Skinfood has an eye cream that is supposed to do something about dark circles. It’s called Salmon brightening eye cream. I used it because I got it as a sample when I purchased the eye cream above. Because I don’t have dark circles I am not sure if it actually works but it definitely was moisturising.

  • Reideen

    What are the ingredients?
I hope it doesn’t contain mercury or paraben?
Please let me know so that I can make up my mind > to buy or not to buy…

    • the Muse

most tarte products are paraben free, I’m not sure of the mercury aspect reideen sorry.

  • Dayse Anny

After reading this review, I was so excited to try it that I ordered some samples…they arrived today. 😀
The cream is rich but…I can’t stand the smell! >.< Oh my, it smells so bad, I absolutely disliked it, I'll continue to use all the samples I got, if I really fall in love with it, I'll think of enduring this issue and getting a full size.
Does the avocado balm have a better smell?
Thanks for your reviews dear, I love them and your writing style! <3
    xoxo

    • the Muse

it kinda grows on you dayse ;-D the scent that is ;-D mmm it actually smells kinda similiar tbh ;-D Aw thank YOU! so glad you enjoy my posts ;D

      • Dayse Anny

It’s true! I was happily surprised that, after some days of use, the smell doesn’t bother me anymore! 😀 In fact, it actually grew on me! I was thinking of getting the avocado balm, but since this one claims wrinkle care and the smell issue is no longer a big con, I’ll stick to this! ^^

        • the Muse

same here…it kinda smells like fresh turned dirt at first but oddly enough it starts to grow on you ;-D I’m glad to same happened for you! Also the Salmon Brightening Cream is fab too!

  • Anna Luisa

I actually have a sample of this and I’m currently using it. I like the texture and the herbal scent but I also have fine line problems. Have you found your HG eye cream yet? Previously, I was usuing THEFACESHOP Wrinkle Stop Eye Cream and I really liked it but I wonder if there’s a better product out there…
