Etude House Miss Tangerine Soda Tint Review, Swatches, Photos

If I had to pick an item I was excited about from the Etude House Miss Tangerine Collection it would definitely be the Soda Tints.

Just the name gets me hyped! I’m thinking fizzy, yummy flavors that will stain my lips a brilliant shade of color.

Wanna check ’em out?

A lip stain available in two shades released with the Etude House Miss Tangerine Collection.

At first glance these reminded me of the DuWop Lip Venom V. The formula is basically made up of two separate layers of oil and water which can be shaken up to form a lip stain. I do question whether this is really necessary or just a fun little extra, either way it makes for interesting makeup fun.

As you can see from the photo the formula starts out with the actual stain on the bottom of the tube. It kinda has a lava lamp effect as is but once you shake the stain over rides both the water and oil to form a solid shade.

Formula feels pretty much like any liquid stain. Not any more moisturizing or different than anything else I tried in the past, just pretty basic but obviously a bit more watery and runny compared to say lip venom plus it wears crazy long.

The product is available in two shades, Tangerine and Cranberries. I liked Cranberries the best as it gives a nice deep shade of reddish berry to lips. I thought Tangerine was somewhat unwearable sadly as it’s a warmer shade of tangerine that isn’t quite that flattering, kinda reminds me of iodine.

The smell is absolutely to die for but that’s where it ends…

In complete contrast to their gorgeous scent they taste absolutely rancid.

Cranberries has a soda-y sweet berry scent and Tangerine has a orange-y tangerine smell. I was so hyped about the sweet scent that I assumed it led to the taste as well. Not the case.

They taste salty and bitter! OMG it’s really awful and such a contradiction to their sweet smell. I’m wondering if I got a batch that was off!? Whatever the case may be these taste really, really bad.

  • Those who like lip stains.
  • Those wanting a warmer shade of tangerine for lips.
  • Those wanting a long wearing lip color.
  • Those wanting a lightweight hint of color for lips!

  • Those sensitive to flavors or scents (the sweet scent might not be your thing if you’re sensitive to scents and the bitter, salty taste, well, that isn’t really anyone’s bag now is it?).
  • Those who aren’t interested in online shopping, airmail shipping, etc…(these are available in Korean and a few select Asian countries but not the US).

Even though Tangerine failed to work for me I was prepared to Muse Approve these for purchase but the taste is so bad that I just feel like I’ll be tossing them aside. I’m thinking of purchasing another set just our of curiosity if the taste was a fluke. I’m literally left feeling thirsty after application, like I had salty fries or something.

So weird.

Anyone try ’em?

Get the salty, bitter taste?

Do share!

  • Mango

off topic, BUT dupe alert! i saw a review for these duwop ice tea sticks on your blog muse. yesterday at dollarama a saw these bonnebell vita gloss moisturizing sticks. they last, smell good and offer a subtle shine! check em out!

  • Casey

Hmm, maybe apply some sweet-tasting lip balm on top of this? I love how the EOS summer fruit lip balm tastes 🙂 I wonder if it’ll be enough to cover up the saltiness and bitterness.

  • Renata

It’s a shame! I like the tangerine color, for it seems almost all lip stains are that heavy pink color. Do you know a good one which is not pink? Any recommendations? Thank you

    • the Muse

renata vincent longo has a few sunnier shades of stain. Hope this helps! 🙂

My haul with the tangerine one should be here soon. I was thinking i should have ordered both now i’m glad that maybe I didn’t. I’m most excited about the primer though funny because its the only non-orange colored thing in the collection. LOL Any how, I shall report back on the taste.

    • the Muse

melissa PLEASE PLEASE update me on the taste of yours, so curious ;-D I was thinking of having a friend buy me two more just to see if the taste was a fluke!?

  • Eli

This is the funniest product I’ve seen in ages! So sixties 🙂 So sad it tastes gross…

  • Dawn

Oh my,the tangerine shade looks really unflattering!!
Hmm if it tastes bitter and salty I probably won’t get it because the taste is important when it comes to lipbalms/glosses for me. Shall check it out to see if they have it in Etude house here..:D

    • the Muse

hey dawn! yak taste is awful, due update me if it tastes any better your side ;D!

  • saff

I live in Korea (currently) so I hauled pretty much everything in the collection with the exception of the creme lipsticks and the cotton primer pad things – I loved the way the soda tints looked on the display and picked up both the colors.

You didn’t get an off batch, they really do taste salty and slightly bitter ~ my lips are kind of dry due to the freak cold spell we’re having here, so I got a burning sensation when I put the lipstain on.

I covered up using Banila’s goodnight kiss and that took away the bitterness and also gave me great shine.

hey saff! thank you thank you thank you! I thought it was me! they are awful! no burning thankfully but gross taste 😛 I love goodnight kiss ;-D good call! try out the primer pads if you aren’t sensitive, I’m really loving them ;-D

  • Erika

Miss muse! You are right! it tasted awful! when i tried this at an Etude House store I was super excited because of it’s smell,,,, but then when i tasted it! eeewww!!! like i ate something horrible! 🙁

    • the Muse

right erika? I thought it was a fluke but looks like everyone is saying the same. they SMELL amazing! but the taste is AWFUL! ;-/

  • Yaz

Why should the taste of it matter? You’re supposed to wear lipstick, not eat it.

    • the Muse

well yaz it’s on your lips so you can taste it technically and if it’s nasty tasting well..that sucks right? and in this case it tastes nasty. Whether you lick your lips or not anything on your lips you’re going to be able to taste at some point during wear. So yes it matters imho! Hope this helps.

  • Andrea
