Getting Problem Skin Clear Again with Lush Fresh Farmacy Cleanser

I rarely have issues with my skin but occasionally I’ll have a crop up of smaller pimples on my jaw line or occasionally on my forehead. It’s a rare deal for me since I’m well past the age of acne and never had heavy duty issues with it even in my teens however it is something many people struggle with daily.

On the days I am having problems and need the clear my skin up on the double I look no further than Lush Fresh Farmacy Cleanser.

Tis a miracle!

If you’re like me and have smaller problem areas that pop up from time to time this is truly the cure all. If you have more severe problems you might want to slowly implement Fresh Farmacy Cleanser into your daily or nightly routine.

What is? What’s it do? How does it work?

Calamine Powder calms red blotches and blemishes while rose, tea tree, and lavender calm problem skin and soothes it.

Fresh Farmacy is cut to order from a larger block. I normally indulge in a 2 oz size and I cut it into even smaller parts and store the pieces in a small, sealed plastic bin. I remove a tiny piece when I have a problem and simple wet it and proceed to smooth it over the problem area. It works up a slight lather and turns a milky pink. It does make skin drier and tighter so be aware when using it. I can almost get instant results using it as it clears up spotty areas overnight for me. Honestly, if you have clear to semi-clear skin it’s a great bar to have around to clear up problem areas super fast!

For those with serious problems you might want to slowly introduce this into your current skincare regime. Try doing away with other acne products and use this in place of them (unless it’s a prescription product). You won’t see instant results but over time you should see better results. It’s a very calming soap so it shouldn’t irritate skin further.

Lush Fresh Farmacy Cleanser is something I keep around at all times! Absolutely love this stuff and consider it a miracle product.

Do you use it?

How does it work for your skin?

I used to use this but unfortunately it didn’t do much to clear up my adult acne (hormonal, I get it on my chin). I don’t think it aggravated it though either. Like you said, it’s probably best used for mild breakouts or small whiteheads. For bigger stuff I find that glycolic acid products work best for me.

I do however keep it around to use in the spring and summer. I always tend to get into poison ivy or something when i’m working in the yard and this stuff dries it up super fast and doesn’t irritate it like a normal body wash would. I wouldn’t recommend using it all the time on your body, but if you happen to get covered in poison ivy it works great!

    • the Muse

it works great for mosquito bites too courtney lol! ;-D I don’t have adult acne but smaller problem areas it works brilliantly on! Too bad it didn’t work for you ;-( I’ve always wondered how well it did with adult acne/major problem areas.

      • Courtney

Yeah, cystic acne is worst. I never had any issues with my skin until I got into my 20’s and now that I’m heading into my 30’s I thought it’d be done with it by now but unfortunately not. I tried just about everything and was told my only other option was accutane and I didn’t want to go there. Thankfully, I’ve finally found something that seems to be working pretty well (no major breakouts for 2 months now, yay!)

        • the Muse

hey court! I’m so sorry. I sometimes wish I had acne as I think it would be heck a easier to deal with than dry :-/ but than I hear stories and I realize how wrong I am :-/ It has to be a constant battle! that’s awesome! what are you using?!

          • Courtney

Right now i’m using Neutrogena antiwrinkle/antiacne cleanser. It has alpha and beta hydroxy acid in it and I like it a lot so far. Every few days I use a pevonia botanica’s gentle exfoliating cleanser. I’m using first aid beauty’s daily moisturizer but am not 100% happy with it but it isnt breaking me out at all. I just feel like I need more moisture but I have to be careful b/c a lot of moisturizers break me out. Oh! And i’ve been using the little $1 zit zapper from elf which has witch hazel in it and I love that thing! I also use Mario Badescu’s silver powder every now and then to get rid of blackheads. Right now i have one very small pimple on my chin but other than that my face is clear.

I hear first aid’s line is super for sensitive skin…I’ve been using their pads, I’m not sensitive but wanted to try, and like them alot! love silver powder, use it on my nose ;-D I’m happy to hear Neutrogena is doing the trick, perhaps someone will read your comment and benefit from hearing this ;D!

I love this stuff. I always keep some at home. It works for minor breakouts. It’s gentle and very soothing, keep oil away. I love how great it smells. I always use it with tea tree toner they work great together.

  • Cj

My cousin uses this religiously! She can’t use normal acne products because they break her out even worse. I think she has bad reactions to salicylic acid.

Side note 😛 Have you seen Lush’s new “Dirty” line?? The tiny bit of masculinity I have is literally begging for it lol! ;D

    • the Muse

and hey you! ;-D a good friend of mine has same problem, swears that FF cleared her skin up ;-D LOL the tiny bit of masculinity eh? I love you! hehe! Dirty is actually too masculine, I tried it when it was with the BNever line, it’s kinda like a smoky sweater…you might want to check out Lady Boy, it has a masculine edge but fruity banana and violet keeps it flirty and fem. 😀 I might still have vials of Dirty somewhere if you want to test before indulging ;D!

      • Cj

Smoky sweater? Now I’m scared lol! It’s ok, I already ordered a small bottle of the shower gel just to make sure I like the scent 😛 if I do I’ll probably go crazy and get everything lol, I really wanna try the ‘toothy tabs’ lol! Sounds so crazy 😛

        • the Muse

it’s minty but it has this underlay of smoke, have you tried Lush Ginger? Everyone I know says Ginger smells like an ashtray, but I LOVE it..the same underlay of smoke in Ginger seems to be the same in Dirty ;-D It’s nice, not bad ;D!

I love the toothy tabs, hehe sounds so fun!

I tried a sample slice of this once— at first I couldn’t stand the smell, however after sticking with it, I find that it’s quite relaxing. I agree about the drying— and it doesn’t clear up cystic type acne, but I think it does help more surface blemishes. Usu. my everyday go-to is philosophy’s purity— but after seeing this post, i should probably get a small slice or FF to keep for bad skin days!

    • the Muse

hey dovey. I used to be a big time purity girl myself but for some reason had to stop using it, was drying me out 🙁 sigh! I loved it!

  • tee

I used to use this, until Lush decided to close their shop! grrrr….

usually use this for body soap to get rid of those pesky bacne or when I feel like my back is more oily. Like the texture and clean feeling it gives after washing 🙂

  • kiwikiwidragon

I would be totally on board with FF, but it has sulfates to make it foam and that gives me irritated skin. I wish they would use a real soap base instead!

  • Tracy

Lush is another brand I would like to test out, just haven’t gotten around to ordering a haul. I like products that are more on the “natural” side. This does have chamomile, lavender & tea tree oil, so its probably beneficial for some milder break-outs, but if anyone finds it drying, I’d bet the culprit is the calamine. Probably would not be as drying in hot weather when skin is oilier.

I’m 44, and I’ve been struggling with acne for 20 years, so I’ve tried just about everything once, and everyone’s skin & body chemistry is different. Sometimes you just have to give it a try & see if your skin responds to it.

I’d guess that this cleanser would be a nice addition to a skin care routine if you break out moderately, just to give skin a break from harsher products. A little mix of jojoba oil/grapeseed oil as a moisturizer after this would probably work really well. I think it sounds like a good “mask” or overnight spot treatment – I think I would dab a bit on a moderate blemish like the Mario Badescu spot treatment & it would probably help reduce a spot overnight.

Do you think this is ok to use on your body? I hardly get acne on my face but more on my chest/back.

  • kharanya

I absolutely detested this and the aqua marina. Both of these left this horrible film on my skin that I’d have to scrub at or use another cleanser to get off. It wasn’t pretty. Totally love their “Angles on Bare Skin” and “Babyface” though.

    • the Muse

kharanya sometimes following up with a little Tea Tree Water on a cotton pad, wiping down your face after works! 🙂

      • kharanya

Oh I tried toner with it, but nothing would get it to budge. I have dry, break-out prone, sensitive skin, so I don’t like to rub my face at all or it gets red easily.

Strangely enough my clarisonic has not irritated my skin at all. I’ve been using Derma-E Glycolic Cleanser, Rose Water Mist before I apply my Serum (M2 20% at night or Korres Vit C Day) and Derma-E Hyaluronic Acid Night Cream.

This combo works great for me, I’ve been controlling my breakouts and giving myself weekly facials at home. I can’t tolerate most chemical based products, so I do a lot of research and shop a lot at vitacost.com.

  • Rose

Hi! I absolutely love Lush products. I have the same skin as you have, generally pretty dry (except for the nose) and breakouts from time to time. Tried lots of products (and indeed Frash Farmacy is a great product) but nothing beats Embryolisse. It makes my skin super soft and calms is down. It is absolutely amazing. They also have a face soap which I use in the shower and it doesn’t leave my skin feelling tight (is that the word?) like others do. Have you ever tried this? I’m sure you will love it 🙂

    • the Muse

Hi Rose that’s great! 😀 Which face soap are you talking about, Queen of Hearts? I’m pretty familiar with the entire line as I’m a Lushie for years now 🙂

  • Rose

Hi! Sorry for being confusing haha, English is not my first language 😉 The soap I am using is by the brand Embryolisse, I did not expect to ever find a brand that would beat Lush at something for me but for my face it did… They have a USA website: http://www.embryolisseusa.com The soap I use is Pain Dermatologique, it’s on the front page if you scroll down. I know it’s not Lush so it might be a bit misplaced with this article, but I just wanted to let you know about the brand. I read about it on a Dutch beautyblog and they were right: it is amazing 🙂

You give me so many great tips about cosmetics, it was time to give one back 😉

  • Ricci

As you know I am a huge Lush Fan, I cannot use FF, It makes my face all red & irritated 🙁

  • Bonnie

Might need to try this…unfortunately the Lush cleansers have not been HG for my cystic- and other-acne-prone, super-oily (in my mid-30s!) skin. I really hope that all of these people who say “When you get old, you’ll be glad you have such oily skin” turn out to be right! 😛

  • Bev

Seriously, I love Lush for their facial products. Coalface saved my face during my college years when every other acne product made my skin worse. I agree that Fresh Farmac is perfect for those random wtf breakout days. Now if only they would bring back Sweet Japanese Girl

    • the Muse

aww bev don’t say sweet japanese girl it hurts my feelings. I miss it so!

  • Mariko

I don’t know what you usually do when you’ve been plagiarised or photos have been taken without your consent, but I stumbled upon this just now.

The photos have been taken from your website and the text is almost identical.

    • the Muse

thanks mariko, I’ve left her a comment to please remove or at least source the images we’ll see if the replies. sigh. This happens alot unfortunately. thanks so much for updating me, appreciate it!

      • Mariko

I hope she does something about it, it’s sad when people take anything you’ve spent money and time on and pretend it’s their own work. Best of luck with that x

        • the Muse

thanks mariko! I don’t mind too much as long as she puts a small source of some sort for the images 🙂 it does drive me bats when people hotlink or don’t bother sourcing at all. I don’t ask for a huge shout out but a small source is nice ;-D!
          Thanks for telling me :D!!!!!!!
