Hard Candy Fox in a Box Bronzing Duo Skinny Dipping Review, Swatches, Photos

I recently reviewed Hard Candy’s Fox in a Box Blushing Quad. As you know from my prior post Hard Candy has two separate ranges in the Fox in a Box Powder one of which is a blushing quad and the other a bronzing duo.

I think a fair few of reader’s felt like these resembled Benefit’s Powders however I didn’t get that vibe after trying them out. Totally off topic but you know what really reminds me of Benefit Coralista? The new MeMeMe Blush Me Box Box! OMG wants!

Let’s take a peek at this duo and see what I think!

A bronzer/blusher duo housed in a tiny box with a beauty price tag!

If you’re on a beauty budget I do think these are the right pick for you. The formula doesn’t rock my world by any means but it does have good pigmentation behind it plus some rather cute packaging to go along with. It has a few minor quirks which I’ll get into shortly but for the most part it performs fairly well.

This is housed in a flip top box just like the blushing quad I recently showed you. Some folks felt like it wouldn’t hold closed due to the fact that a tiny brush is strapped inside the top lid but so far I haven’t had any issues but needless to say I won’t be traveling around with this as it is delicate and the cardboard box can easily become torn or crushed if I decide to toss it into my tote or makeup bag.

The duo features a bright orange shade and a more muted dusky brown bronzer. Really it works as two products in one, a blush or a bronzer or a blush and a contour. Personally I find it awkward to separate the two shades for use unless I use a really tiny brush so I simply brush a larger blush brush in both, swirl, tap, and apply. The result is a orange-y beige on my cheeks but warmer orange is definably the dominate shade that comes through here so if you can’t wear the shade you might want to select another color variation.

The powder is hard packed and pigmented, I mentioned this in the blush review, so it takes a bit to work it up. I suggest using a bushier brush for application as this seems to kick up the most product in my opinion.

I actually liked Skinny Dipping alot, the color seems a warm, peachy orange on my cheeks. It’ll make an excellent pick for those with tan or olive complexions.

The brush included is really scratched, sheds, and just isn’t dense enough to pick product up. It’s a cute extra but not a practical tool.

The box is flimsy so if you’re wanting to travel with it be aware how you toss it around in your bag.

The powder is hard pressed so it does take a little time and patience to pick up color and blend it properly on cheeks and face.

  • Anyone seeking a budget bronzer/blush option ($6 bucks, can’t beat the price!).
  • Those who already own and like some of Hardy Candy’s blush offerings.
  • Those on a beauty budget.

  • Those used to more higher end makeup (honestly if you shop high end this isn’t going to fill your beauty sweet tooth).
  • Those who can’t deal with packaging that has the potential to tear, rip, or get crushed.

It has a few minor quirks but Hard Candy Fox in a Box Bronzing Duo is a cute little addition to my beauty budget collection. The pigmentation is quite nice however the hard pressed powder can be annoying and doesn’t blend out entirely well if you don’t spend a little tender, loving, care on it. The packaging is cute however it does run a tad on the flimsy side but those on a budget will figure in the cute factor and the lovely little price tag and disregard the worst of these quirks.

Overall, it’s not going to win any major awards but it does fit into the realms of a cute pick for those on a budget.

Anyone try?

Hard Candy is available exclusively at Walmart.

  • LaurieS

Hmmm, I don’t know. The packaging, instead of screaming cute, looks like a space hog to me. But I have too much makeup 😉 Such a big ol’ box for such a small amount of blusher/bronzer? I haven’t seen this in person, however.

    • the Muse

Laurie depends really as Benefit’s are just as large ;-D and I don’t mind them so much ;-D but yes, after a while makeup starts becoming a problem in the storage department hehe!

I was scared of the color, but I purchased anyway and I like it! It takes a little extra blending, but overall its good for me. Btw, I wish I had access to all the awesome Asian beauty products you do! Jealous! 🙂

    Hi Muse,
Can you recommend a way for us to buy Mememe products?
I looked at their website and they do not sell or ship to the US.
Also, Boots is in the same boat. I even went as far as EBAY UK.
Sadly, nobody in EBAY UK is selling those darn blushes from Mememe. Please help. Any recommendation will be appreciated.

    • the Muse

Sorry Crissy no recs for purchase hun 🙁 Perhaps makeup forum and a swap with a Brit hun. Sometimes they do pop up on Ebay UK but rarely. These blushes just launched and shades are sold out so it prob will be a minute before you see them pop up on E-bay. If any stores pop up will let you know.

this shade looks really good on you! i’m chinese with fair skin (MUFE Mat Velvet #30), do you think the bronzer shade would be a good shade for contouring and creating shadows for a slimmer face? thanks + love your blog!

    • the Muse

I’m not sure jean as I’m not familiar with that MUFE shade, I’m sorry hun! aw thanks glad you enjoy Musings 🙂

  • Josie

You totally need to get this in Spicy & Sweet. At first I wasn’;t sure how I felt about it but now I am absolutely in love. These things are great!

I scored Fox in a Box in Hot Flash at Walmart today. I think this will work for me. It seems to be nicely pigmented and I like the color I get when I blend the 4 included colors together. Sometimes my box lid pops open and Im not a fan of the brush, but no biggies for me there.

    • the Muse

sorry for the delayed reply susan, how’s it working out for you?

  • Lauren Morgan

I got this one because of your review of the quad, and I love it! I don’t use the brush though. I use my ecotools brush which works very nicely!

I despise Walmart, and even though I know I can get several types of products there cheaper, I typically avoid Walmart at all costs! Considering that summer is beginning here in Houston, I decided to make a stop at Walmart to load up on summer essentials. My list was sure to end in a high receipt so I sucked it up. Not to mention, I wanted to try out the Hard Candy brand after reading so much about it in the blogs. I’ve been a self tanning queen for the past month, and I was looking for a trendy coral or orangey blush to add to my collection. I must say, I’m in love with this color, although I have no interest in the bronze. I’ll let my NARS bronzer (going into my 3rd summer with my bronzer purchase) do the work, but I’m very happy with the $6 “trendy” color purchase considering the fact that I’ll be over it by summer’s end!

  • Lauren :))
