Shiseido The Makeup Brightening Veil Review, Swatches, Photos

My latest obsession, newest YOU need this product, Shiseido Brightening Veil.

I picked this up on a whim from Sephora.com a few months ago. I’ve been meaning to get it for a while now but I kept forgetting to put it into my cart.

Thank god I finally remember because I’m not sure I can live without it now!

Check it!

A colorless-finish foundation that minimizes the appearance of spots, freckles, and dullness, for an even-toned.

Dullness was the keyword here that grabbed my attention. It promises to brighten up dullness and create a smooth, even complexion. Needless to say, it does just that!

Although toted as a colorless finish I feel like it has a very slight tint which should match many skin tones but may appear a tad on the chalky side if you have olive or darker skin.

The product is housed in a twist top jar. Unscrew the lid to reveal a sponge and a lift up lid which hides the cream beneath. I like the design alot as I feel it’ll travel well without breaking.

You can use this one of two ways. Go ahead and smooth it on your face to even your skin tone and brighten your face sans foundation or use it under your foundation as a base. If you have a darker skin tone you can easily use as a base and follow up with your foundation to minimize the white cast you might see after use.

The formula is creamy yet lightweight so it smooths on and leaves behind a beautifully soft finish. Not a mattifying one but more like a smooth, hydrating one. It looks gorgeous on my drier skin and really brightens up my face and casts it in a beautiful light (you’ll see me wearing it sans foundation in my next review, truly it gives a stunning finish even without foundation).

Considering I don’t use a ton of foundation, I like to use this on its own as it works perfectly as a foundation of sorts and eases dullness beautifully while leaving behind brighter skin and a smooth finish for my makeup.

I can gush on and on about how amazing this makes my skin look but another important key to the product is the fact that it sports an SPF 24. Quite a nice sun protection for a cream base.

Nothing at all bad here!

  • Anyone with dull skin that needs a pick me up!
  • Those with tired, stressed out skin!
  • Those who feel like their foundation just isn’t doing the trick (use this under it and experience a new lease on your foundation life).
  • Those who brighter more flawless skin!

  • Those with olive or darker skin (you won’t be able to use alone but as a base it’ll work perfectly).

I absolutely loved this and can’t gush enough. Sadly, it’s displaying as out of stock on Sephora at the moment but I hope it’ll pop up again soon as I need to stock up! I’m dubbing it one of my favorites from Shiseido at the moment as anything that eases my dullness and brightens my skin is a friend of mine!

YOU NEED this.

Loves it and slap a high recommendation and Muse Approval on it! I’ll be getting a second one as soon as Sephora restocks!

Brilliant!

I actually used it as my primer sort of but not on top of but you can do that Melissa ;-D!

      • Melissa

I am tired of foundations and I think my skin is too but I love the smooth effect of primers and this seems to fall in between. I am going to head to a counter this weekend and see if I can find it. Thanks have an awesome weekend!

        • the Muse

my pleasure melissa ;-D! Don’t quote me sephora says “online only”, I’ve never seen it on counters so not sure if it exclusive to them!

  • Cj

This sounds really good! It sounds very similar to Mac’s mineralize cream foundation. Btw I don’t know if it’s true or not but in the comments on Sephora, people are saying that this is a discontinued product :/

    • the Muse

pleaseeeeee don’t say that cj I was worried about thatn when I seen it out of stock OMG no! :0/ evil bay it is :-/

  • Christian

Interesting product, never heard of it! From the description it kind of sounds like a BB cream but in a pot form? Do you feel that it’s similar or lighter/heavier in texture & coverage? I’m so intruiged! 🙂 Thanks for the review Muse!

    • the Muse

hi christian nothing like a bb hun. It’s quite light and offers very little coverage. It acts more as a primer. Hope this helps hun! 🙂

My mother swears by the mattifying veil. This looks amazing! I used to use The Make-Up foundation, but the fragrance irritated my eyes ;__; Shiseido makes amazing make-up though. Their lipsticks are still my HG.

  • Littlesushi

I found something called smoothing veil, instead of the brighting veil, is that a different product?

“A colorless-finish foundation that minimizes the appearance of fine lines and enhances radiance to achieve natural perfection.

Contains moisturizing Fine Line Targeting Complex that diminishes the appearance of fine lines around the eyes and mouth.

Contains Multi-Nutrient Factor, an advanced moisturizer and energizer for a smooth-as-silk youthful complexion.

Can be used under foundation or alone.”

    Certainly sounds simular. :/

I think i just found it on nordstrom’s webby, under “Shiseido ‘The Makeup’ Smoothing Veil”. Guess it’s only been renamed : )

  • April

I’ve been using this for years and adore it. Last I heard, however, it was discontinued. 🙁

  • Nia

That indeed sounds amazing, I need to track down the ingredients and then I might check it out. Looks a bit dark in the pan, but definitely worth a try. Thanks 🙂

Have a great week Muse 🙂

Muse — I believe they are reformulating this product along with Shiseidos other bases — it might be re-released but I haven’t seen it at the counters in a while. On another note though, does this contain a lot of cones? 😀

    • the Muse

hey josh def they are, they already started with the primer, base products. sad! I don’t have ingrids in front of me but I doubt it as if it did I would be a mess of pimples 😛

  • Asuka

It’s true; Shiseido discontinued it. They replaced it with “Smoothing Veil SPF 16”. The latter one works better to cover wrinkles, even in the eye zone.

  • Mary the Muse Militant

    Sounds perfect.
Another product to add to my list of items I can’t afford but will sell my granny to get !
    Thanks for the review.

    • the Muse

lol I’d sell a kidney for makeup mary ;D never mind my granny ;D! you’re most welcome!
