MAC Fashion Flower Review, Swatches, Photos

I was pleasantly surprised with the MAC Fashion Flower Collection as I didn’t realize they would have a cute floral imprint on the shadows and Beauty Powders. Did anyone know about that? It was news to me.

I got the shadows and Beauty Powder in yesterday’s mail so here’s some swatches and a review.

The collection is made up of six shades of eyeshadow but three are available already and you may have them your collection, I know I do. But if you’re a little obsessed you might want to pick them up regardless because of the floral embossing. After two uses later and alot of swatching the floral imprint still remains very fresh on both the powders and the shadow so it seems to remain intact without quickly disappearing, that’s a nice bonus in my opinion!

The colors are pretty but a bit disappointing formula wise but that seems to have been the case in the last few MAC Collection releases….I dunno the formula isn’t up to their normal standard lately but maybe I’m over analyzing!

The shades include:

  • Aqua which is a pale, pastel matte shade. This has a hard texture that’s swatches and applies pretty light. Could be the matte formula but I was disappointed in the overall formula.
  • Bows & Curtseys is a blackish forest green with a satin finish that has strong, velvet-y feel.
  • Free to Be is a coral almost pink-ish red shade with a matte finish. I actually already have this stashed somewhere but the formula seems way different from the one I already own and a hell of alot less pigmented.
  • Fresh Daisy is a frosty white with a bit of a golden underlay.
  • Groundcover is a matte taupe with a matte finish. I find it hard to work with and less than pigmented due to the matte formula.
  • Lucky Green is my favorite of the shades. It’s a lovely grassy green with alot of yellow and a velvety feels so soft and blends so dreamy. You probably already own it so be sure to check your stash before indulging!

Overall, a majority of the shadow releases outside the cute floral embossing proved disappointing particularly because three of the shades are already permanent in the collection plus add in the fact that the shades just didn’t seem up to the MAC standard formula.

The two Beauty Powders are lovely but Alpha Girl is a re-release so be aware prior to purchasing. Alpha Girl is a soft peachy pink and can easily be used as a blush and built up for a nice flush of color on cheeks where as Light Sunshine is a soft pastel pink that can be used to highlight with. Each of the powders feature the floral print like the shadows and after a few swatches and swipes of my brush the design still remains so I’m quite happy it doesn’t disappear quickly!

MAC Fashion Flower Collection is a nice Spring release. It has alot of pastels in the mix which should appeal to those with fairer skin. I was a tad disappointed overall due to the formula of some of the shades, the matte finishes, and the permanent shades I already owned but new MAC users might see the joy here to some extent. Outside of the cute floral embossing I’m not sure there is anything to get too excited about though.

What are your thoughts on the collection?

Will you haul?

My feelings on this collection and Quite Cute are: eh. Not too excited…but that’s ok since I’m obsessed with Lorac and Tarte right now.

    • the Muse

lorac’s summer 2011 collection is looking all kinda hawt winni 😀

OMG, I’m wearing the light golden blue/ bronze baked eyeshadow from the Hot Off the Red Carpet collection, and it’s absolutely gorg. I swatched the TANtalEYES palette a few days ago, and the eyeshadow that appears white actually applies like a gold pearl color, it is unreal. I went back two days later and bought it because it was haunting me.
p.s. THanks for all your hard work!

Winni ugh that sounds amazing, I got last year’s palette and kit and LOVED them ;-D the new Red Carpet is gorgggggggggggggggggg ;-D I must has it. The palette I’m debating b/c it looks so similar to last years!

Aw jeepers Winni, my pleasure. I appreciate hearing that ;-D xoxoxo!

I thought they were the same also, but swatched together they are different. The new palette has a gorgeous gold green and a brownish garnet color that I really like. But the all-star for me is still the gold-pearl. I fully expected it to swatch white and when I looked at my hand I actually looked back at the palette to make sure I had swatched the right color!

  • Misato-san

not interested at all. all mat and bad formula = will save my money on other stuff. I really wonder when they’ll release these in Italy btw

    • the Muse

misato should be second/third week of May prob you’ll see ’em :)D

    • Amber

Unless you MUST get the flower embossing on the aqua color I’d suggest ordering it online. Aqua is a pro color that they sell online and the formula of this one so sub-par compared to it.

Winni, I had to get that Lorac set after swatching at Ulta. I don’t usually go for Lorac but those shadows and the 3D lippie are amazing!
Hey Muse! I’m so glad because I was waiting for an excuse to buy Lucky Green, and floral embossing is definitely that cute excuse 🙂

  • Eva

I like the eyeshadows but since they are already in the permanent collection, I am not going to run to the nearest Mac counter.
The beauty powders are nice but I don’t have a “OMG I WANT THAT” feeling :d

  • Nia

Finally, I will be able to get my hands on Alpha Girl 🙂

Apart from this I will only get Bows&Curtseys, I was liking it in the Christmas collection, but I am not getting a palette for one eyeshadow.

Thanks a lot for your review. Did you think that the imprint was changing the quality of the eyeshadows?

    • the Muse

nia I’m not sure if it was the imprint or what…mac’s shadows in the last few collections have been poorly…I do wonder if it’s the formulation or the imprints or wth is going on here :-/

  • Mary the Muse Militant

Love the dark green and the matte taupe colours.
I missed the Free To Be twice before but will have to check if it is pigmented enough as you mentioned it was not the same as the previous releases.
    Nice collection !

  • plue

Beauty Powders for me, the rest, pretty but not something I would use 😛

  • Becca

hmmmm… I really wanted aqua and groundwork, but since they’re such bad quality, I’ll pass 🙁
