Do you like seeing high res images of collections?

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?

Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. 1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
As many useful posts as you can dole out. 😉

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
If you have the ability to take them, absolutely!

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
Reviews are a must, and yours are terrific! But I certainly enjoy hearing about new products and collections, as well. 🙂 Definitely a feature to keep!

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
Both are great! Drugstore gems rock! But- more so the high-end posts- women will feel more comfortable dropping extra cash on a pricey product with a helpful and honest review. 🙂

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
    US products. 🙂

    • katrosado

I have to second everything Ashley has written! With the exception of your reviews of Asian products. If I can order them online and they are as Kawaii as you have shown lately—I’m all over it! 🙂

Your blog is my favorite blog. I do read a couple of others but not each and every post as I do with yours. I’ve been reading yours for a couple of years.

I will admit that I do pay more attention to your highend posts but only because of 2 reasons: 1. I waited a very long time (raised kids…etc, not a lot of disposable income when younger) to use high end/ luxury makeup. I do pay attention to some of the drugstore finds because I have 2 teens and they like drugstore. Also, if a high end item sells out I know that the drug stores will be duping them usually before the end of that season. Great blog Ms. Muse, many thanks!

  • Littlecreek

    Let’s start at the top:
I like multiple posts per day, but I will say that heavy days (15-20 in a day) can be a little much. I’ll just blast through them in my RSS feed instead of really reading them.

    Hi-res = yes please

One of the reasons I read your blog is because you do both reviews and let us know about new products. I don’t expect you to personally review everything you mention. Readers write their own experiences/reviews so if I really want to know I’ll read their comments.

High end/drug store, a great beauty product is a great beauty product. If it’s quality I want to know about it.

If I can’t get it in the US or order directly from the brand then I don’t usually care too much about it. I personally don’t trust foreign third party sellers.

  • Margaret

YES to EVERYTHING except I’m not all that interested in brands you can’t get outside the U.S. because that’s where I shop.

    <3 you, <3 your blog!

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
I’m of the school of thought of the more the better. There can never be too many posts!

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
I like both! I like reviews the best though

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
    Both!

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
More the US unless it’s something extra good/useful/pretty

I love swatches, reviews, Looks, comparison posts, pics, info on upcoming collections, bits & bobs about you personally, info on new stuff at sephora, reviews on beauty tools…and the more of it all, the better! 😀

  • Rosemary

I read pretty much everythhing you write, and love it.
The only thing that I would like changed are the following two:

Please don’t put links to products that at no longer available under your reviews under the title “You might also like:”. This is especially true about old sales…as its very dissapointing to find that the link is to a sale from 2009.

Keep us on your web site! Can you set the links to external content to open in new tabs or windows? We want to stay on your site…not be sent away from your wonderful reviews and photos.

One of my favorite things about your site is that you use the products and show us photos of your make-up. That is really helpful.

    • the Muse

      hi rosemary.

Thanks for the feedback I’ll work on getting that fixed so it’ll open a new browser when you click a link. You Might Also Like is a widget, I don’t link to these posts, they are auto generated on each page. It’s a good way to get reader’s to look back and enjoy older posts but I don’t have control over what content is selected each time, it automatically generates. Sorry it posts old sale info :-/

      • Rosemary

        Thanks for the reply!
I am sorry…obviously my greed takes control when it comes to sales.
This is the only make-up site I check multiples times per day…there is usually something new to consider buying.
Thank you for all of your work!

        • the Muse

ha rosemary you aren’t greedy ;-D LOL! I LOVE a good sale girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could control the widget from displaying old sales for you! I’m sure that is an irritating issue!

  • Eve

I pretty much love everything you do Muse! <3

I love reading reviews more than I like to see previews but I still love the previews!

Yes pics are always a must! As are swatchies.

I like lower to mid-range cosmetics. (Like UD, Too Faced, etc.)

I always love hearing about products from around the world! It keeps it interesting and new. I worked at Ulta for awhile so I'm tired of all the American brands LOL!

  • Paula

Your international product reviews are a MUST! Your Asian info was an amazing help when making my shopping list for my BFF. LOL!

      • Paula

I am! Kind of addicted to my SkinFood concealer (Banana Stick). I’m going to start writing about them soon – I just had to plunder it all first. 😉

          • Paula

I did – I wanted the powder, but she grabbed the cream. I haven’t played w/ it near enough yet, but it sure is creamy smooth!

          • the Muse

the powder is amazing but I noticed Bobbi Brown’s new concealer kits, darker shades like sand, have a similar shade of it, not loose but pressed, quite good too if you’re wanting to indulge!

  • Missy

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
—As many as you are willing to do! I check in several times a day to see if you’ve posted anything new.

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
—Images are a great addition. Swatches are so helpful when I purchase something online. I always check your blog first to see if you’ve reviewed it and what you thought about it. I trust your judgement. Plus we have similar coloring and I can get a good idea of what something will look like if you’re wearing it 😀

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
—I love both! Looking forward to new collections is half the fun!

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
—Both again! It’s great to find drugstore stuff that works, as well as the high end stuff. I think most people mix it up with both kinds.

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
—I like seeing the variety that’s out there, even if I don’t purchase it for myself. It’s fascinating to see the makeup and packaging of other countries. Plus, I love that women everywhere love their makeup! It’s a neat common bond 🙂

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
I enjoy frequent updates (lol, I need to exercise that on my own blog), but if they are high quality, it doesn’t matter to me if it’s multiple times a day or just once a week.

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
    Yes!

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
    Both

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
    Both!

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
Well, I’m Canadian so most products in the US I can get here… though I don’t have a Sephora or MAC store in my province. At all. So, sometimes there will be updates about brands I can’t buy at any of the stores here, though I still like reading them just in case I get the opportunity to try them, through ordering online or traveling to where there is a Sephora or whatever. /endrant

Umm, well I think occasional reviews of products from different countries is cool. I especially like reading about Asian products, if there are links for me to buy online 🙂

  • kaynn

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
As many posts as you can write – but don’t get stressed out!

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
Your reviews are great, I love them! As for new products… Hmm . I think that 1-2 post per collection is good, for example if some brand just put their new collection to the market, I’m fine with just one or two review-less posts on the collection, and not have every single product have it’s own news.
If there’s some really exciting piece of news about some products, sure!
Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
Both. I love using more luxurious facecare products but with my makeup I tend to go the budget way.

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
Haha, I don’t live in the USA so as much internationality as possible, thank you 😀
Also, I love your posts about Asian brands, especially Korean. I feel like they’re made for my skin!

  • rowan

i like plenty of posts about new makeup releases, and reviews/swatches, so i can see what i’d like to try. mid to high end mainly, i find cheap beauty products just aren’t worth buying.

  • Colleen

1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week? I love the posts throughout the day. They are a great way to take a break during the workday.

Do you like seeing high res images of collections? yes.

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections? I love the reviews & hearing about new products.

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both? Both.

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US? Although I’ll never buy them, I love the reviews of the Korean products. Most of them are super cute & it’s interesting to see what’s out there in the world.

Hi Muse. Love your blog the way it is. You’ve introduced me to so many products that i wouldnt have been aware of otherwise. You do such a great job. You have the best beauty blog on the internet:)

  • Kate

    Hi Muse =)

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
I’ll read as many posts as you write, it’s super nice to get updates throughout the day. It’s like getting email about makeup from a friend! =) But don’t stress out to pump out tons of posts! We’ll love you regardless!

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
Yes! Whatever your pics are now, high res, mid res, res, they’re great!

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
I love your reviews and would love to hear more of your thoughts. But, the variety of reviews and new product intros are good, too. I think eventually you use and review some of things in the collections anyway, so it all works out in the end!

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
The fact that you do both is bomb@$$. A lot of people with the economy nowadays are appreciating the drugstore products (well good ones!) just as much as the high end stuff. Sometimes we just want something to quench our makeup thirst and knowing that we can run over to walgreens to pick up something Muse Approved is comforting!

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
The fact that you review products from other countries sets you apart from the rest!!!!! DO NOT CHANGE THIS! Please do not! I feel like this is the edge you have on all the other bloggers bc while they also do a great job at reviewing U.S. products, something about beauty in other countries is what makes you more appealing. It’s like you’re opening up our eyes and minds to other cultures and what they think beauty is/can be.

    • the Muse

aw jeepers kate that’s always nice to hear ;-D and YOU are just that, my friend ;-D my beauty sis in arms hehe!

I won’t, I really enjoy Beauty Abroad and started Musings on it as a base ;-D It’s something I’d find very hard to NOT include here ;-D so you know it’ll stick around so long as I got peeps saying they want it!

      thanks for the feedback kate!

  • HapaGirl84

Muse!!! One of the greatest things about your amazing blog is your reviews and news about Asian and European makeup brands!!! Many of your readers travel, have family and friends abroad, and “cosmetics tourism” is one of the best ways to shop like a local when you travel to foreign countries. Ladies — just because you can’t buy the products in the US doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care! Many of these cult favorites make their way to US markets (Fairydrops, Fiberwig, etc.!) and Muse has probably tried them first. Definitely keep the non-US brand reviews coming, Muse! They are absolutely fabulous. 🙂

    • the Muse

hapa I actually agree and THANK YOU btw ;-D *hugs* some of the products DO end up the US ;-D which is why it’s so fab to get the review out there and suddenly SURPRISE a year later it’s available in the states ;-D Happy Days!

  • sara

I hit your site at least 5 times a day. The more posts the better. You have the best reviews out there. Love the pics, swatches, and honesty. I always know about the best new stuff before it’s even for sale! Love it <3 Don't change a thing!

  • Susan

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
    10? More like 50! 😉

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
    I do enjoy seeing pictures.

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
I like reviews and new products/collections.

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
    Both!

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
My preference is for products readily available in the US, but I do find it interesting to read about products used internationally.

  • Holly

I love lots of posts – maybe not 20 a day, but at least a few a day to give me something to distract myself during the day 🙂 I read this blog and probably 2-3 others regularly. High res images give me a better idea of the product. While I try not to be swayed by product packaging, oh, I totally do! It’s terrible!

I like how you write – it’s fun and cute and you sound real, less journalist-y, if that makes sense. So, I like hearing about new stuff, reviews, and little mentions of Dr Who.

I tend to prefer more high end, but I like some lower end. It’s good to hear about what works and what doesn’t.

    • the Muse

Holly the Doctor Who will ALWAYS been around girl! So happy to see someone appreciates that babble ;-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxox!

  • Phyrra

I love reading at least one post a day.
    I love high res images.
    I love reviews.
I like high and low end posts.
I like hearing about products in the US, as well as products available online 🙂

I read every thing you write, even if I don’t comment on every post! Love what you do Muse <3

    • the Muse

you love me by default dd ;-D b/c Imma consider your my OLBFF ;D

  • Cj

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
    – The more the merrier!

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
    – If you got em, then sure ;D

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
    – Reviews are great but I like hearing about new products too lol

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
    – I kinda prefer high end stuff (Insert “yep” calling me a high end snob lol) but If it’s a good product and does what it claims, I will gladly walk my butt to CVS and buy 2!

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
    – I’ve realized I can find anything with a bit of googling so bring it on lol 😛

  • Sara

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?

-I like a bunch a day. Spread out, since I tend to fiddle on the intertubes in the morning and evening.

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?

-YES! Fuzzy, total color imbalance (you know those horrible orange/yellow pictures where the product is way out of focus and everything is dingy? ugh..I can’t remember the name of the blog I saw photos on like that..), or otherwise crummy photos really aren’t useful at all, are they? Clear, concise, well lit, in focus, and large photos are always appreciated. I gravitate towards blogs with those photos and don’t bother with ones who don’t have them.

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?

    – You know…I don’t like the news as much because it usually only contains promo images. Those are pretty useless too since we can’t see swatches or get the bloggers opinion on formula and quality. I don’t mind a blurb about something upcoming, but I rarely expand for a full post on it.

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?

    – Everything. I’m obsessed with girl stuff, colors, and sparkly awesomeness. Whether that comes in a high-end package or some flimsy plastic crap out of the bottom of a dusty drugstore bin – I want to see and read about it all.

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?

    – I’m most likely going to buy something I read about that’s available in the US (obviously), but I enjoy reading about products in other countries too. Those Tony Moly things with the ice cream shapes, the animal tin lipglosses, and the berry shaped balms are killin’ me with awesome. It makes me sad I can’t get them easily, but I’d still rather read about them than not. 🙂

  • Shayne A

Musey!! How I’ve missed you ~ I’m so sorry for my lack of posting. Can you forgive me??
You know I have to put my two cents in on this……

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
**I absolutely love that you write more than 10 posts a day. And believe me, I do read all 10 posts.

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
**LOL As long as the picture is in focus, I’m happy.

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
**I want both. Many of the items I’ve purchased have been because of your reviews. But I so love hearing about new collections or products.

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
**Again, I want both. I don’t discriminate when it comes to beauty ~ besides, high end & low end, no one really knows that but yourself. Unless you point out to someone “Oh look I’m wearing Le Metier de Beaute’s lipstick” or “Did you see how great this Chanel Inimitable mascara looks on my lashes?” OK Now you’re just showing off.

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US? I really enjoy reading about other countries’ interpretation of beauty and how they express what’s beautiful to them. I am on a mission, however, to find the Tony Moly Ice Queen (is that it?) night moisturizer.

  • Favor

As long as I can read all this makeup goodness on googlereader, I’m happy to get as many makeup posts as you can write in a week.

  • jonnie

    – I’ll read as many posts as I have time to read… if it’s been a while I’ll go back and read them when I do get a break, so I guess the more the merrier!

    – Love seeing the pictures of collections, whether they are the latest and greatest or random stash pictures. It’s makeup porn!

    – I like the up and coming as well as the reviews, although on the up and coming posts I prefer the ones with lots of info as opposed to the shorter ones with just a few promo pics.

    – I prefer the high end posts… I honestly don’t read the lower end posts. I understand that lots of people do though, so I’m not saying take them away.

    – My favorite part of this blog is getting to check out the foreign (especially Asian) cosmetic reviews/info! Some of it is just so damn cute, and I don’t so much mind that it may be stuff that’s hard to acquire here… that adds the thrill of the hunt to the excitement of new makeup. 😉

Overall Muse, I love your blog. I’ve been reading it for over two years now and although I go longish stretches without posting, I always read… 🙂

  • Renata

Hi Muse. I like your blog how it is, although sometimes I wish the pictures of swatches were bigger. I like the reviews above all things, but everything else is interesting as it is. 😉

    • the Muse

hi renata def wish I could make them bigger but they would run over to the sidebars :-/ I’m working on a new template though!

  • Makedonka

I enjoy your writing style, Muse – there is wit and humor that reflects your personality that is just delightful! 🙂
I personally come back to your blog whenever I have/find time during the day (between taking care and homeschooling my Autistic son) and really appreciate the variety of the products you write about – so I enjoy both individual reviews and collections etc (from both local resources + the rest of the World .. I am from Europe personally living in the US). As far as hi-def pics goes it is helpful to have them when showing color cosmetics because of the variety of monitor models we use 🙂 but otherwise pics can be “normal” resolution.
I found reference from your blog to other sites/review blogs but I have to say that the only one I actually read (and occasionally post 🙂 ) is yours!
I love what you do – keep it up!

  • Lydia

I love your blog the way it is!no changes please!!And I’d like to see as many post as you can prepare.I don’t mind if they’re 2 or 200 as long as they are daily 🙂

  • ann

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
    At least 1 a day!

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
    YES!

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
I like reviews better, but news can also be very useful

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
Personally, I like medium to high end posts since most US drugstore products aren’t available where I live (Asia)!

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
I LOVE to read reviews about Asian products. Since I live in Asia, they’re pretty easy to get for me & I don’t know of many blogs that review Asian products. This way, I’ll know what to avoid and what’s great to try.

  • Candace

Hi Muse! Long time reader, first time commenter 🙂

The more posts the better generally, because the chances are higher there will be something I’ve had my eye on. Preferably more than 3 or 4 posts a day, I think 🙂

High res images are cool, but I have no real opinions on them either way.

A mix of reviews and news is the best, I think. But there’s not much information to be had in news posts (across the internet, not just here! 🙂 ) so I think how you do those now is good – a picture, some information, and that’s it. I do like the reviews of products more though, there’s more to read and they’re more practical 🙂

I definitely like a mix of high- and low-end products. As someone said above, if it’s a good product, I’d like to hear about it! I buy mostly drugstore and mid-range, so could live without the high-end posts, but they’re fun to read. Certainly couldn’t live without the drugstore posts, though!

I live most of the year in the UK and the rest in the US, so I have a personal interest in hearing about overseas products (at least in Europe) but for practical reasons, if other people prefer not to, I can read about it elsewhere 🙂 I like reading about Asian products though as they’re so cute and sometimes strange, and just very different from Western products!

    • the Muse

hi candace thanks for taking a sec to leave your feedback ;-D appreciate it!

  • Nia

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?

Hmm, hard to say. I also prefer quality over quantity, so 10 a day is not necessary. But one a week would be a bit sparse for me.
And I do not require a constant number of posts. Posts when you feel like it. 2-3 a week should be fine.

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?

I like the pictures you have now. If you have hires, you can make the pics clickable if people like to take a very close look maybe?

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?

I like your mix, reviews and info on upcoming products and collections and when stuff becomes available.

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?

Well, as I am in Europe, I mostly look at your high-end posts simply because many of the drug store brands are not available here.
But generally a mix is very good 🙂 Especially when they are very good drug store products or dupes etc.

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?

Sure I do 😉 But I think there it mostly depends on where most of your readers are.

  • Rose

Lots of posts. Prefer mainly US products but an occasional post about overseas items is cool. Mainly interested in midrange but both upper and lower budget is great too. Love actual reviews with pics with swatches and looks. Head’s up on sales and/or promos (ie Korres 30% off codes!) or exclusives is also really appreciated (ie Tarte on QVC). Also love the cheerful happy Muse-like presentation! 🙂

  • Majick

I’m a brand new subscriber to your site and I like what I’ve seen so far. I love all the pics of products and color swatches. I’m always looking for reviews before I buy something.
I’m a bit tech challenged and your site is very easy to navigate for me. Also signing up was really easy.
I basically like knowing about EVERYTHING beauty. My name is Majick and I”m a beauty junkie. 🙂

    • the Muse

hey majick my god sorry delayed reply but now we are friends LOL and you aren’t new anymore lmao…how late am I?! I’m so glad the site is easy for you hun! That’s what I like hearing ;-D I def feel like a revamp soon to make it even more so ;-D! hugs!

  • denise

    1 post a day? 2? 10? 1 a week?
    >i’m not very particular with any number of posts in a week or day. what i love about your site is i get something new each time i drop by 😀

Do you like seeing high res images of collections?
    >doesn’t have to be high res. as long as you got a clear shot (no white spots) is totally fine. and from the sites i’ve visited, you sure do make good photos!

Prefer just reading reviews and not hearing about new products or collections?
    >I like both! 😀

Do you like just high end posts? Lower budget ends? Both?
    >btoh. wider range = good! 😀

Do you like to hear about products from different countries or just ones you can get in the US?
    > i’m from asia, so products from diff countries (esp korea!) is nice 😀 in my country, we don’t have much of a makeup/skincare products variety, and i’m pretty conservative when it comes to buying stuff online. XD nevertheless, products from all over the world is great. 😀

I’m really a fan of your site! i try to drop by as much as i can. keep it up. 🙂

  • aquahartz

    hi Muse,
its been a while since i left any comments on ur post.
i’m frm Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia & now live in Melbourne, Australia.
here in australia things are very expensive if they come frm other countries other than australia or new zealand. it makes me sort of jelous that other women in the world get to enjoy skin care & beauty products at a good price if to compare with here in australia.
anyhow, i guess i’m lucky in a sense where each time i go back for holidays i get to see & try (& of course buy) american, european, & asian products.
and i am soooo thankful to ur blog as u open our eyes to other products in the world. i am supper busy everyday with work at the hospital, but i make sure everyday i go to ur webbie to look at beauty news/reviews.
the way u are doing it now is excellent. i love beauty news & reviews from around the world, also all the swatches & face of the day help me with colour matching of the make ups that i already have.
one thing is sometimes over the weekends there’s no update & it makes me sad. hahahha. but anyhow i totally understand that u have life outside of this blog, hence i’m willing to wait for the next posts.

anyways, keep it up. love muse!!
