Avon Anew Solar Advance Sunscreen Face Lotion Review

I tried out the new Avon Anew Solar Advance Sunscreen Face Lotion I told you about last week. This is one of two new sunscreens available from Avon (the other is a body version) that’s formulated with RepariShield which dramatically reduces the look of wrinkles and discolorations while protecting your skin from the sun with an SPF 45.

The high SPF value alone was one reason I wanted to try it out and of course the rather affordable $24 price tag for 2.6 oz as higher end SPF comes with a far bigger price tag.

Here’s my thoughts!

A sunscreen lotion for your face that features an SPF 45 and a formula that fights the signs of aging.

I think the idea of a sunscreen that not only protects your skin from harmful sun rays but also aids in fighting the signs of aging is an interesting concept. Granted, I can’t speak for how well this is or isn’t holding out against the signs of aging, only time will tell, but I do like the idea that my product is multitasking for me. I also love that it fights discolorations and skin damage already caused by the sun.

This comes in a generous 2.6 oz squeeze tube. It’s virtually mess-free and squeezes out product perfectly without any fuss or problem. The product doesn’t have a sunscreen smell but more of a subtle fresh scent. The texture is very thick and more along the lines of a traditional SPF…

This happened to be one reason I wasn’t keen on the product.

I’m a fond fan of Japanese and Asian SPF products which provide high levels of sun protection along with lighter formulas that don’t make my face feel greasy.

Although Avon Solar Advance does absorb easily it still feels very heavy on my skin. I’m normally very dry skin but even I can feel how weighty the product is on my face. As with any SPF it has a strange waterproof formula that feels like it wraps skin in a second layer, almost rubbery in texture. If you commonly use heavier SPF products you’ll understand the formula I’m trying to describe here. It didn’t leave a white cast behind and absorbs easily enough however the formula remains uncomfortable and feels almost like a second skin.

  • Those who favor traditional SPF products.
  • Those with drier skin (the heavier moisturizing finish might appeal for those who have dry, parched skin).
  • Those who like the idea of an SPF that works at protecting their sun as well as treating discolorations and fighting the signs of aging.

  • Those who prefer lightweight protection.
  • Those who aren’t keen on a greasy, heavy SPF.

The price is right and the formula does deserve some points for trying hard to multitask at several different things as well as sun protection however the overall formula feels very heavy, greasy, and uncomfortable on my skin. Such types of SPF tend to make me break out plus just generally feel like they are suffocating my skin on really warm days.

I think I’m a tad spoiled after trying so many superior Asian SPF products as I simply can’t get on board with such a thick, heavy, rich SPF.

This one I sadly did not like.

If you prefer and already use a more traditional SPF formula I’d suggest grabbing this but if you like something lighter, well, this probably won’t top your list as a must have.
