Jelly Pong Pong Jelly Flush Review, Swatches, Photos

The warm weather has set in. I’m looking forward to a heated New York Summer, let’s hope this good weather lasts because if you live around these parts you’ve probably been way disappointed at our lack of Spring.

Jumping in the Summer I’m already stocking up on facial mists, lightweight moisturizers, and cheeks stains! I love naturally flushed cheeks in the Summer with minimal to no eye makeup so I’m all about hunting out the best cheek stains of the moment.

I tried out Jelly Pong Pong Jelly Flush which is quite a dupe-tastic version of Tarte’s legendary Cheek Stains.

Let’s take a peek!

A swirl up stick of cheek stain gel that you can swipe on for an instant flush of color!

Available in one shade, Jelly Pong Pong Jelly Flush comes in twist up tube that you can swipe on, blend out, and go! Yup, it’s definitely an utter dupe for Tarte Cheek Stain but in a smaller size tube.

The formula is a solid gel stick with a delightful fruity, sweet strawberry scent. It’s easy enough to tote around with you but it does have a short coming that Tarte’s version also had but I’ll tell you about that in a second.

The formula is moisturizing so it glides across cheeks easily and blends out just as simply. The color isn’t terribly pigmented but it builds up for more pop and can be used on most skin types but beware if already sport a bit of redness on your cheeks as the color is a true flush of red.

I generally enjoy Tarte’s version and like Jelly Pong Pong’s just as well. It gives a nice flush of color on my face that looks very natural as if I’m blushing or just stepped in from a cold night however…

Just like Tarte’s older version (they have since revised the formula) this tends to be very melty and a bit messy. The product tends to “bleed” a bit and liquid-y bits and bobs end up towards the bottom of the barrel of the tube and it drips everywhere. The best solution is to pop it in your fridge for a bit to get it solid again but it’s not a long term solution as anytime the product is exposed to a warmer climate it tends to melt a good deal. Tarte’s version had a similar problem however they revised the formula about a year ago and it hasn’t been an issue since. This would be ideal to travel if it wasn’t for that messy problem.

I find gel stains tend to not wear as long as a liquid cheek stain so a touch up is needed within two to three hours so the wear isn’t crazy long but the natural flush of color might be worth the shorter wear time for some.

  • Anyone who likes minimal makeup (this gives just a flush of color that looks natural and pretty!).
  • Those wanting a lightweight blush for Summer that’s looks natural.
  • Those with tan or olive skin (the red shade will blush cheeks nicely with a hint of color!).

  • Those who have redness in their cheeks (if you already have redder cheeks you might want to avoid as this color is red).
  • Super pale chicas (if you’re very fair the red shade might not be flattering).
  • Those who aren’t particularly keen on messy packaging (the packaging is a problem).

Overall, Jelly Pong Pong Jelly Flush is a delightful little product but it does suffer from one major problem, the packaging/formula. The formula is very melty and the tube doesn’t help the situation as product ends up dribbling everywhere. It is slightly cheaper than Tarte’s version and the overall product does perform nicely and gives a perfect flush of color for the warm weather but sadly the mess may not be worth it in the long run.

I liked it well enough but they definitely need to work an ickle bit on reformulating the formula so it doesn’t melt as easily.

Every try it?

Cute! It’s inspired me to try the Tarte ver. at least :). I haven’t had much luck with liquid stains (and whatever the Hourglass stain is…too expensive for how it looked on me, I only tried the tester though) so maybe this type of gel stain is better for me as I think my skin just sucks up the other stuff.

      • Tammie

I’ll have to look into it, at least now I know where to find Vincent Longo stuff (I just discovered my local CVS Beauty 360 and was VERY impressed). I am definitely going to do a swatch test of it :). I’d really like to try a cheek stain for when I am feeling more like a natural looking/non shimmery (I feel my brush holds on to shimmer so even matte blushes aren’t all matte) or non powdery blush~

        • the Muse

i don’t think we have 360 yet…or I’m not looking in the right place ;-D but curious about it…heard they have cargo w000t! they also wear all damn day which is one reason i like ’em!

          • Tammie

The only 360 around here is kind of out of the way but kind of not so I just found out about it like 2 weeks ago. I heard about 360 before but I thought since it was CVS it was probably lame but no it’s AMAZING. From what I can remember they had Cargo like you said, 100% Pure, Vincent Longo, Pop…and some other stuff that I was very impressed by as I haven’t seen it in person anywhere else.

I’ll def. give them a try…I dunno if it’s because I don’t wear foundation or what, but even my Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush doesn’t last ALL day (it’s still there but it’s not as it was in the AM)…so if it can truly last all day then I’m sold. I never bring my makeup except for lipglosses/sticks with me (and an emergency kit of sorts…an eyeshadow/blush and a gloss/lipstick from a recent Clinique GWP and various beauty tools).

whoa hooa on 100% pure. Our DR carries it too but not a big stash…..def look into stains, they are guaranteed last all day. you can head into a battle with those things in place and they won’t budge ;D

  • Cj

I hate this weather sooooo much lol. Please tell me winter is almost here! 😛 I’ve been using Stila’s lip and cheek stains a lot lately, everything else doesn’t even last an hour in this weather. Those with Mac face and body foundation make a great combo for summer 🙂

    • the Muse

cj you have to cope with it year round ;-D! we love it when it finally comes after the long hard winter hehehehe ;-D! I love Stila’s stains ;-D! Happy Long Weekend gorgeous!

  • Tammie

Haha nice :). Yeah I am always looking for a good stain, I’ve found my HG lipstain in the NYC Smooch Proof line (color: Smooch Proof) but cheek stain has proven much more difficult. Also the NYC doesn’t last THAT long so hey maybe the Vincent Longo could be an all around HG 🙂

    • the Muse

on cheeks def all day wear tam but not on lips ;-D I def love the NYC one ;-D cheap and works a treat!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Tammie

Ahh that’s good to know! I’ll stick with the NYC one for lips then. 🙂

BTW Do you have AIM or gChat or something? I feel like I am always chit-chatting up your blog hehe.

        • the Muse

I like the bourjois paris ones too but they are impossible to find anymore le sigh they are my hg have to get them from England 🙁 sigh! damn bourjois for pulling out of the US. • Tammie

            Boo @ Bourjois…I never even got a chance to try ’em :(. I wish I could though~.

  • Deanna

Living in Florida I like minimal make up in the hot, humid summer. Can’t wait to try this product – thanks for the review

  • Kayla

Muse! I know this is extremely random and I’m sorry :[ but I need help! How do you recommend applying tinted moisturizer? With fingers, a brush? After a shower (like moisturizer) or during your makeup routine (like foundation)? I am so clueless! Haha. I bought Sonia Kashuk’s TM, just to give TM a shot this summer.

    • the Muse

hi kayla it’s during your makeup routine as your base/foundation product before color cosmetics. I normally apply with fingers but you can apply with a sponge, brush, however you are most comfortable hope this helps!

  • Majick

I was almost afraid to look – thank goodness I’m safe on this one. LOL
I hope you had a great weekend.
I got my Smashbox Lip stain in Guava and am wearing it today. I’ve had to re-do my top lip an ickle and the bottom lip only once to even it out. THis shiz really stays on. I put it on at 9am and it’s 5:10 right now) The guava is supposed to be coral but on me it’s very bright red – LOVE! the balm on the end keeps your lips from drying out.

  • Sabrinna

Hi Muse, have you tried the allison raffaele brand? Ive been using their gel blushes and they stay on forever (8 hours max on me!) (i have oily skin) Theyre also not greasy. I know theyre a little pricey )around 22-25 bucks, but they get on sale at hautelook from time to time for 6 bucks! 🙂 ). But i love cheek stains/ gel blushes. Id try this one out (but as you said the wear time on this isn’t very long…)

    • the Muse

sabrinna I have indeed ;-D but not the gel blushes! six bucks? brills! I’ll have to check them out when they are HL next time, thanks girl!

  • Kate

I’ve tried both and honestly I prefer neither. =/
Both are far too greasy feeling on my skin and when I swear or my face produces oil, they disappear more or less. But if I had to pick, I guess I prefer the scent of the JPP one cause I think Tarte’s are unscented.

  • Kate

Muse! When will you be reviewing more JPP stuff? I think they came out with a few new items…was just curious…I know you’re busy. *angelface*

    x)

    • the Muse

hey kate I don’t really have anything else from jpp to review at the moment hun 🙂
