MAC Prep + Prime Beauty Balm SPF 35

I’ve been waiting to tell you about the new MAC Prep + Prime Beauty Balm SPF 35 since earlier this week but the press release just ended up in my inbox today!

W00t!

The product was originally available at select Travel Retail locations throughout Asia. I believe mine was purchased in Japan via a Duty Free shop at the airport. I’ve had it for a while now but didn’t review since it was so difficult to locate in the US however I’ll be reviewing mine tomorrow and I think I’ll indulge in the US version as well to see if the formula is the same or different from the Asian release. I suspect it’ll be the same overall though.

Let’s have a look!

The high performance artist who attracts our praise because of the perfection of every single action…the awe-inspiring high-level results? Our key candidate: Prep + Prime Beauty Balm. Lightly tinted in a clear, nearly sheer beige tone to work on a universal array of complexions, it creamily re-texturizes the skin and then goes on to excel at being a colour perfector and face primer with high everyday UVA/UVB SPF 35/PA +++ defense. Beauty Balm lightly hydrates the skin and blurs out lines, adding the optical effects that illuminate the skin. A sublime case of: “Shes fabulous…How DOES she do it?”

MAC Prep + Prime Beauty Balm SPF 35 $30

MAC 191 Square Foundation Brush $32

From what I understand it will be available exclusively at www.maccosmetics.com only but if I get updated details I’ll post.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Muse, I so have you to thank — I just bought my first BB cream! I got the Missha Perect Cover in 13, since I’m about an NC10 in MAC (Too light to shop anywhere but a pro-store!). So, hopefully this lighter shade will work for me! <3

    • the Muse

yay josh! ;-D I can’t WAIT to hear what you think! 13 should suit your fair skin fine! I don’t know much about mac’s range of color tbh but I watch your vids, I think 13 should prove a good match!

      • Josh

OMG — You watch my videos? Can I tell you how much that excites me? :]

        • the Muse

of course I do ;-D! I really enjoy them. I actually have your comparison vid saved of the naked palette as when I post my review was going to link it ;D! <3!

          • Josh

Awww, that’d be awesome! I’ve been reading your blog for a good two years now and you’re one of the few people I trust! 😀 <3

          • the Muse

            aw shucks thanks Josh! xoxoxoxo!!!!!!!

    • Cait

is 13 the lightest Missha shade? i’ve been wanting to try it but for some reason their shade selection confuses me…i wanted the lightest one cause i’m very fair as well.

  • Productdoctor

Do you know of any BB creams that might work on darker skin tones? Like NC35?

    • the Muse

missha has a range of darker shades productdoctor. 31 is one of their darker shades…others are self adjusting but in my experience they don’t adjust as well on really dark tones as they leave a white cast behind. finding the perfect bb for your tone and skin type is truly an adventure and personal experience..I’ve been through 100’s and have come out with a handful of matches and a formula that I truly love ;D Sadly, they aren’t really something mad with darker skin types in mind since the brands are from Asia where it’s a one size fits most skin tones type of country ;D

i wear a NC 35 and I wear Missha Perfect BB Cream in No. 23 and 31. I mix the two to get the right color. 31 is far too dark and 23 creates an ashy look, but together they are perfect. I also have Dr. Jart and Holika Holika but in order to make them work I mix Koh Gen Doh foundation corrector in apricot. Hope this helps!

I saw this pop up on the splash page of the MAC website last night as was like “I wonder if the Muse knows about this?!” They haven’t advertised for it at all, really, and its a shame it will be online only. Can’t wait to read some reviews though and see if its worth it. Maybe it could replace my Studio Moisture Tint (which I have to water down with moisturizer anyway b/c it gives too much coverage for my liking).

    • Kelly C.

I suppose I should bail myself out by saying I know BBs are NOT TMs : ) But in this case it could replace that sort of product for me.

      • the Muse

oh totally kelly but I admit I still use TM’s too in the Summer but no idea why I bother lol ;D

    • the Muse

kelly you know I’m all over it girl ;-D! It really is…not a big launch at all, weird….as BB Creams are hitting the market fiercely at the moment!

  • Janelly L.

I thought this day would never come :O I can’t wait until you review this! How was the version you picked up at the airport?

  • Diana

    Dearest Muse
Thank you so much for always being a reliable source of information. Every time I’m even thinking about purchasing something to quench my beauty thirst, you are always there to help guide me threw and help me become a savvy beauty buyer. Thank you for never letting me down and always being the most update source for my makeup and beauty addiction. You are by far and away my favorites beauty blogger out there, I would know, cause I get around. (-,

I know it sounds cheesy but I thought you should know!

P.S. Can’t wait for your review on this BB Cream!

    • the Muse

aw jeeperrrrrrrrrrrs diana thanks girl! You’re such a sweetheart <3! I LOVE bringing it to you ;-D I can't wait for you to try them, have you tried any yet?!

      • Diana

Sooo many, Skinfood Aloe, Silver Label Dr. Jarts, Hot Pink Skin79 and Lioele Triple the solution and thanks to you I have the Holika Hoilka Aqua Petit Jelly coming in the mail.

  • Cj

I think I just did a fangirl scream when I read this lol! When will this be available? I didn’t see a date in the post. I can’t wait for this 😀 btw is that brush new or is it just like a repromote in the collection?

    • the Muse

may 31st they say CJ but it’s onsite already…they say in the release it’s online only release trying to get deets on a counter or store release for you guys too ;-D! I think it’s new, I have never seen that brush before I don’t think!

      • Cj

Found it! Lol I swear I checked the Mac site before and didn’t see it. It’s out of stock tho 🙁 But yeah that brush looks really interesting!

  • Reme

Wow this is super exciting news Muse, thanks for spreading the word!!

I’ve never seen any BB creams for sale in Europe before but now that MAC is on board they could be on their way here this very minute! I love the high SPF and that they seem to give a real ‘lit from within’ glow, can’t wait to try (subject to Muse approval of course 🙂 )!!!

  • tiny

I love bb creams as much as… well…. anybody… is it just me or does this seem…. really REALLY small? it’s awfully expensive for just one ounce of product… I’m worried I’d run through it really quickly. 🙁

  • Mary the Muse Militant

They had better sell this in England !!!!
If not I’ll have to buy from some lovely American on Ebay 🙂
First though I’ll be patiently waiting for tomorrow to see your review.

  • Jen

Can’t wait to read your review for this… I have it in my cart but I keep second guessing it so I’ll wait until tomorrow. I came here to check to see if you’d reviewed it yet.. I was like “Muse will know if I should take the plunge!” 🙂

    • the Muse

*wink* jen ;-D I’ll def give the word shortly…! plus we talked yesterday too..haha so I think I sealed your choice!

  • teenie

Since you’re well aware of Asian BB creams, I hope you can give the most accurate review of MAC’s Prep+Prime Beauty Balm! So far, other beauty bloggers seem to treat it strictly as a tinted primer but I would like to see this compared with Asian BB creams in terms of texture, color, etc. Thanks!
