MAC Surf Baby Eyeshadows Review, Swatches, Photos

The MAC Surf Baby Collection will be popping up in store soon. Excited much?

I can’t say this is my favorite Summer MAC release but I will say it does definitely give a good old California, surf’s up vibe.

Here’s a look and thoughts on the shadows from the collection.

There are a total of five eyeshadows released with MAC Surf Baby most of which are very Summer friendly.

The three I tried out were Short Shorts, Surf USA, and Saffron.

Saffron is probably my favorite of the three I tried since I’m on my orange, coral, peach kick lately however I already have it in my stash since it was originally released with the Mickey Contractor Collection. However, those who missed out it’s a rather lovely coral with a soft satin formula. I always find satin formula a little hit and miss but this one applies and blends beautifully.

Short Shorts is a frost but don’t let that scare you. It applies quite nicely without looking overly glittery and makes for an excellent highbrow highlighter or on its own for a softer eye look.

Surf USA is a frosty teal but again no problems with appearing overly shimmery or applying badly. This round of frost finishes seems very low calorie and look fabulous on my lid without looking over done. The shade is more aqua than teal for me but the heavier green to it does make into a darker teal shade at best.

I’m not sure if you really need any of these. Saffron proves a lovely shade as does Surf USA. It does really depend on what your lemmings for color are this Summer. I wasn’t overly impressed with the three shades on a whole but this could simply be me experiencing a little MAC burn out woe.

Although the packaging has been debated by the masses as being a tad uneventful I find it very fitting with the theme they are going for and I remain impartial to it on a whole. I guess after you’ve seen one too many MAC Collections come and ago you start to get less and less excited.

I will say that I love MAC as much as the next person but these just didn’t quite capture my interest.

I do suggest checking them out in person as you can never tell what you might fall in love with when it comes to MAC.

MAC Surf Baby releases later this month.

Any takers?

Loving the shadows?

Leaving them?

    I love that these are more pigmented than a lot of the last few releases, and the colors are pretty, but there’s nothing that stands out that I just must have.

    There’s a grey color that is coming out with this collection that I am very interested in. I’m glad that you were happy with the texture of the shadows; it’s got me excited to go swatch them in person!

      I was indeed littlecreek. MAC has been a bit off with the formula lately but these worked a treat ;-D I seen that shade and was curious if I needed it ;D! have to see in person!

    I really want Swell Baby and maybe Surf USA unless I find its too close to the teal in my Blue Had Me at Hello wnw palette.

    hating those eyeshadows ;_;
    I was so in love with Surf USA when I saw it on the net… but in person… I don’t like it at all and I’m a teal girl ;_;
    (here in Italy the collection was released on May 2nd)

      misato that was a quick release for you guys! I love teal too but sadly as I get older I find I can’t quite do it as well as I once did :-/

      • Misato-san

        yes it was… and a sad one on my part.
        I was lusting Surf USA but I didn’t like it in person, too fluo.
        I was lusting Hibiscus… MAC forgot to send it to my store. U_U I tried it at the pro in Milan on Saturday (5 days after the release) but it was sold out T____T
        I’m considering Blue noon but I’m so pissed that I think I’ll skip it.
        Damn you, MAC ;_;

          aw sorry misato outside of the powder I dunno if I’m all that excited about surf baby, mac burn out girl!

  • Juliah

    I was kinda excited for the teal color, but your swatch makes it look pretty similar to aquadisiac so I think I’ll pass..

    • the Muse

      I think there are a dozen and one dupes available of it Juliah :-/

    • Misato-san

      sorry if I intrude but it’s not comparable to Aquadisiac… or Steamy.
      Aquadisiac and Steamy are really really really pretty. this one is kinda fluo and it’s not pretty at all. U_U

  • Tigress

    Surf USA is pretty, but I feel like there are lots of dupes for that out there.

    I got so disappointed when I heard short shorts was a frost finish, but thankfully all of the swatches I’ve seen haven’t seemed very frosty lol, So I’ll still be getting it along with the gilded white eye pencil, I figure short shorts for inner corner and brow bone with gilded white on my water line will be an amazing combo ;D

    • the Muse

      that’ll look lovely cj! I didn’t feel it was too frosty at all, I can’t do frost so if I wasn’t bothered you prob won’t be :D!
