Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleansing Oil

Cleansing Oils in a Western market, the final frontier, these are the voyages of cleansing oil in the US….

Asian Cleansing Oils are plentiful. From drugstores to high end counters, from cheap as chips to expensive as bloody hell, you’ll find a cleansing oil to suit any taste in the Eastern market.

Sadly, the US market seems to be the final frontier when it comes to cleansing oils as we have a few but most are from mid to high end brands and it’s not the huge selection you’d see in Asia. Cleansing oils are still yet an unknown, unexplored cleansing option for most American women.

I still haven’t figured out why the hell that is.

Lucky enough, Philosophy does take on the vast unknown and comes out with new Purity Made Simple Facial Cleansing Oil.

At nearly 6 oz and $25 the new Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleansing Oil is a competitive size and price for Shu Uemura’s Cleansing Oil (5 oz at $29) however might I say Philosophy, the packaging, you’re doing it wrong!

I don’t see a pump here guys…I’m getting nervous now. If this has no pump as I suspect than we are in for a messy ride peeps. Origins makes a great Cleansing Oil but I quickly learned that it was a mess to use since I ordered it online and didn’t realize they actually sell a pump for it separate in store…yeah, totally not cool asking for more money for a pump, dude, for serious?!

Cleansing Oil, in my opinion, needs a pump of some sort as pouring it out just isn’t the most conventional, practical, or mess-free way of using a cleansing oil aka That’s so stupid yo!

Now that I got my frustrations out I will say I am curious how Philosophy will do cleansing oil!

They promise a deep-cleansing blend of natural oils that will melt away all traces of makeup, dirt, oil and impurities, while maintaining skin’s natural moisture levels with a formula that feels luxurious, emulsifies easily and rinses completely, leaving skin perfectly clean and soft.

I’m on it.

How about you?

It look like they expect you to use a cotton round with it. I’ve never used cleansing oil before, so I have no idea how that would work out. I need to find some brand that has cleansing oil samples for me to try, before I spend big bucks.

    • the Muse

auro that would def prove rather impractical to use a cotton with :-/

  • Fuuka

US ones are just TOO expensive. I saw an a Josie Argan cleansing oil at Sephora the other other day-$38! I will stick to my Cow Brand MUTENKA for $14.

    • the Muse

fuuka agreed…shu particularly comes to mind as being too crazy high. Heck my naive cleansing oil costs 6-7 bucks at the most ;D!

      • Christine

I, too think cleansing oil are really expensive, even the ones in the drugstore. :/
In Malaysia cleansing oils retails for about…RM35 – RM60? Which is approximately USD 12 – 25? Which is pretty overpriced. Personally, i stared with Missha’s Rose Cleansing Oil which was discontinued to my dismay. It was the only one who worked wonders for me. After that i decided to try Shu’s Cleansing Oil. It’s a whooping RM250 a bottle! But i have to admit, it has helped sooth my skin from allergies and irritation. I guess it’s a matter of how sensitive one’s skin can be. I am sad to say this but, most drugstore brands don’t work for me 🙁

Final frontier no more! I’ve spotted at CVS that Lumene makes a cleansing oil around $11-12. Hope this helps!

    • the Muse

hey angelica I have yet to try that ;-D it’s actually been around a bit but never indulged, have to check it out 😀

  • Melissa

I’ve been using the MISSHA one almost every night for over a year. It gets everything off, smells nice and doesn’t cause any skin issues on my sensitive skin. They run some good promos and sales all the time. The best part is I learned about the brand from you. 🙂 The bigger bottle comes with a pump and I agree its the way to go.

    • the Muse

can’t do the missha one Mel…hate the scent eep! 🙂

  • Karrie

I think I’ll wait to give it a try when the sephora f&f sale goes on.
I have three bottles of cleansing oil waiting their turn to be used.
Definitely curious about this one though.

  • zang

eh, don’t know. i still love my japanese kracie olive oil cleansing oil~~!!!!!

  • Christina

With no pump, I’m going to give it a pass – no matter how good it might be…I can only see waste and mess! I like the Lumene cleansing oil; it’s about $10-$12 at Walgreens and CVS.

    • the Muse

hi lisa I don’t really buy much online, I depend on friends to get me items from Korea/Japan but when I do indulge I normally like Sasa/Imomoko

  • Deb

Hi Muse. Couple of questions for you. Have you had a chance to try the Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil yet? And if so, would you do a comparison between it and this one at some point? I have the Josie and I love it….but it is expensive. I’ve only tried 2 things from Philosophy, Hope in a Jar and Purity Made Simple facial wash. Really hated both of them so I’m not willing to try another of their products sight unseen. I trust your reviews.

    • the Muse

I have not yet deb….sorry! I wish I could compare but sadly haven’t tried as of yet. I’ll do my best to get reviews of both josie’s and this up soon 😀

  • Cj

Good morning Muse 🙂 Philosophy is coming out with a lot of new stuff lately huh. I wonder whats the consistency of this one. As much as I like the Bobbi Brown cleansing oil, it’s so thin it’s messy to use. I just read your review of the Origins one and it having a more thick formula. I’m gonna go out and get it with the pump and try it out ;D

    • the Muse

good morning dear? How is the weather today down your end of the planet? ;-D betcha hot! I’m curious myself, it looks watery no? I love Bobbi but it is a tad thinner…origins def runs thicker..!

      • Cj

Strangely enough it’s not only a cool 70 degrees but it’s also raining! My prayers have been answered!!! Lol now if only I could get rid of this cold 😛 But yeah I’m deff gonna puck up the Origins one to try, thicker formulas are much easier to work with. In fact Shu apparently has a gel formula cleansing oil! But it’s expensive and only comes in a small tube 🙁

  • Irene

No pump? Boo!! I have to say, I am intrigued to atleast try it.

  • Old Cow

    No pump? What wubbish!!

My HG cleansing oil is teh FANCL Light. I adore it something crazy x

  • Mimi

    • the Muse
