MAC Semi Precious Mineralize Eyeshadows Review, Swatches, Photos

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12222222222222!

If you’re old school you totally remember the Pinball Number Count! 12 is the number pf MAC Semi Precious Mineralize Eyeshadows releasing next week!

How many are you hauling?

I tried our four shades this week and here are my thoughts!

MAC Semi Precious is a damn fine release of mineral products so if you’re a fan this is your chance to indulge or if you’re new to MAC, well, what a way to get into their mineralized products with a collection so full of variety.

After playing around with some of the shadows I will say the formula seems to vary from shade to shade. I’m a pretty big fan of MAC’s Mineralized Eyeshadows but they are definitely an acquired taste. They tend to run extra shimmery, aren’t as pigmented as the regular shadow formula in some cases, and have a good deal of fall out and chunky glitter. Having said that….

I will say that the formula should appeal to those who like shimmery shades with a looser baked formula. I suggest them for folks who aren’t big on combining several shades of shadow for a single look as sometimes mineralized eyeshadows aren’t very friendly and do not blend well together but wear best when worn as a single shade. But that’s just my experience with the shadows, some folks have a heck of alot more skill than I do with application and can create amazing eye looks but I think the average user might find them suitable to be worn alone or perhaps with one other shade.

As mentioned above it seems the formula varies here.

Faux Gold: A fairly smooth textured shadow with minimal fall out and sheerer color payoff that builds easily. In the pot it’s a bronze coral but swatches and applies as a golden brown bronze with a hint of burnt orange. It has a good deal of shimmer but not chunky glitter.

Smoked Ruby: Very smooth formula with a semi matte finish. MAC deems it a deep burgundy black but it does have some brown to it and a subtle golden sheen. Applies a little patchy due to the finish but a good base keeps things flowing well. Very nice shade if you have brown eyes. Has zero glitter, shimmer, or fall out problems.

Quartz Fusion: A big old hot mess. Contains huge chunky pieces of silver glitter but the soft cranberry pink shade will have many people loving it. It’s a pain in the butt to apply as fall out is a major problem but it’s a very pretty shade for shimmer fans. Hate shimmer? Don’t bother, this is disco ball central.

Jade’s Fortune: A rather disappointing gorgeous swirl of green and blue that applies as a blackened blue with plenty of shimmer. The green sadly fails to show up here and you’re getting alot of navy so buyer beware if you’re going into the purchase because you love green. Seems almost semi-matte in finish to me and applies really patchy and the smaller glittery pieces get all over the place.

Overall, the Semi Precious Mineralized Eye Shadows were slightly disappointing from shades I already own from past collections. Out of the four I tried I’d say two caught my attention (Quartz Fusion and Faux Gold) but the mess they create during application is a bother.

It’s an exciting release without a doubt and many a MAC fan will be happy however if you’re a tad on the picky side (I am) you might think that past Mineralized Collections were far better than this.

What are you hauling from the shadow release of Semi-Precious?

Have you tried these already?

Share it!

MAC Semi Precious is available July 7th.

Thanks for the excellent review Muse! I have to say that Tarte and QVC are getting all my beauty budget $$ right now…I’m lovin’ Tarte hard. Plus I have a few of the Milani baked eyeshadows that are similar to these…

my pleasure win! ;-D can’t say I don’t blame you. Tarte tops this lot imho! I was really disappointed with this lot. Maybe I’m just picky but mac seems really bad lately. formula isn’t quite as good as it once was !

Yeah, I hate to say that I’m kinda over MAC lately. I didn’t even buy any of the blogger’s collection….and there were a couple I was loving….I’ve been paring my makeup spending down to save for baby. 🙂

the colors in the blogger collection were nice, some anyway, but the formula seems weak…the lipglasses weren’t quite mac quality…I dunno the formula somehow feels different lately…maybe it’s me?! yay for baby! ;-D you’re a good mum to be ;D!

I found a grey hair today! I’m totally blaming it on baby! 😀

I found several, I can’t blame baby! LOL

Oh, Muse, I got so much Surf, Baby! This mineralize collection is not floating my boat. I think I’ll only pick up Gem of Roses Lipstick because I’ve bought so many brights lately I could really use something more natural. Do you ever wear bright lips?

Gotta say these aren’t for me. I love the MAC permanent eyeshadows and often hear of horrible quality of the other limited edition shadows. I have to say I thought these would be different but thanks for the review Muse! I haven’t started commenting til recently but I have been addicted to your blog for at least a year now! ♥

Aw, I’m sad the blue and green one doesn’t actually apply as nicely as it looks in the container! As always, thanks for the REALLY thorough review! xx

Thank the Goddess I don’t need these. LOL I do like the gold and red ones. The blue isn’t bad – kind of that sea blue that everyone is sporting lately.
I have to agree with a previous poster that I’m lovin’ Tarte hard too. I got the 8th world and the latest glow and I think between the two kits I’m not going to want for much.
I decided to keep the bobbi brown TSV but I don’t htink I’ll be purchasing anything else from her line. I don’t think her quality is the same as it used to be either. (JMO don’t shoot me) 😉
