Maybelline Eye Studio Color Explosion Eye Shadow Palettes

Blech!

Oh excuse me! I’m just burping up a rehash of Maybelline Eye Studio Palettes from last season.

No seriously, I heart you Maybelline but your Eye Studio Color Explosion Eye Shadow Palettes (released earlier this year in Europe and Asia) are kinda old news.

First off all, these palettes have walked the runway across Asia and Europe and secondly, well, they are pretty much a revamp of your current Eye Studio Palette Collection but you simply added in a sparkle over coat for us to go gaga over.

And yes, that overcoat definitely makes me heart flutter but some disappointment on my part is expected.

Still friends?

Jump!

I think Maybelline has made some serious strides in the US Drugstore world when they released their Eye Studio Collection. It’s not everyone’s cuppa tea but it is appealing to those of us who really like Asian Drugstore brands since these shadows and palettes are on par with Asian releases.

The evolution of Maybelline started with the Eye Studio Plush Silk Eyeshadow Quads and if you look close enough you’ll see that the Eye Studio Color Explosion Eye Shadow aren’t very different. Main difference? A shimmering overcoat.

Shades:

  • Caffeine
  • Amethyst Ablazed
  • Forest Fury
  • Blue Blow
  • Pink Punch

Am I excited?

Yes.

Am I disappointed?

Yes.

I’m pretty hyped to try these but I do suffer some minor disappointment that the range isn’t particularly innovative and is merely based on an idea of a range of palettes I already own.

Each of these are $10.99 each so it’s not really all about the budget friendly makeup price here.

I’ll buy one of two for sure but if you’re tightening the purse strings you may be able to skip these if you already own the prior quads released.

As for Europe and Asia, they are already on their third rendition of this palette in the form of Eye Studio Color Explosion Duos…oh vey more rehash to look forward to.

What do you think of Maybelline Eye Studio Color Explosion Eye Shadow Palettes?

Available now at drugstores.

P.S. Stock images don’t do these justice, they are considerably more shimmery in person!

I already posted on another bloggers review of these. I love Maybelline Shadows, but I just can’t wrap my head around the design. They don’t “look” pretty to me.

I don’t mind the design too much NotaVampireLvr but the concept has been done already…it’s just a revamp of an old palette with an overcoat kinda boring :-/

You know, as much as Maybelline have upped their game with lipsticks (color sensational) and mascara, I just never find myself drawn to their eyeshadows. Especially since WetnWild took over the drugstore eyeshadow world, Maybelline seems to be lacking in that department!

I think they’re trying to play off the Lancome palettes. I swatched the green one in wal mart it’s not pigmented at all, very sheer. I bought one of the arrow shaped ones last year and was VERY DISSAPOINT. Formula on those stank. Formula on these is not much better, I can’t see a long wear time on these for oily lids at all.

How can wet n wild put out quality formula eyeshadows for half the price and Maybelline can’t for twice?

Trufax… I got one, and the formula is pretty much identical. I think I would’ve preferred more core collection quads, LOL.

I thought so clem colors are kinda the same too! :-/ meh! just paying for an overcoat really.

I got the amethyst ablazed because I just love purple eyeshadows (purple is just my thing)! It looks beautiful! I think the main difference is the color vibrancy. Amethyst ablazed is a lot more vibrant than purple icon, which really excites me. My problem is I got freaked out by the glitter coat…I just thought, “How am I gonna wear this?”

What really bothered me was the $10.99 price tag. Honestly, since these palettes are so similar to the quads they have why would I bother to fork over the extra cash for essentially the same thing? Pretty? Yes. Worth it? I’m not so sure…

The colours look interesting but as you said not innovative, and maybelline always make my eyes cry rivers… Not for me !

I nearly had a heart attack when I first found these. Maybelline is not worth $10.99. I did buy the liner that was in the same display. It was pretty decent. Didn’t smudge or run, but the color faded.

I bought mine at A&P they were having triple coupons and 5% off Tuesdays so I paid for the Purple one $6.99! Actually layered under Nars smudgeproof eyeshadow base it is not that bad! 😉

Just bought this in affine rush. Love the colors, and also love that drugstore brands are upping their game…but with the abundance of shimmer in this I think I will be saving it for special occasions and nights out mostly

I just saw these palettes for the first time at ULTA. Amethyst Ablaze looked SOOO PRETTY omg. It just looked super pigmented and jewel-like… and richer colors than anything I’ve seen at a drugstore. I was a good girl though and am going to get it tomorrow from CVS since they are having a BOGO 50 on Maybelline (last day… hopefully they are not all gone!)
