Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleansing Oil Review

I don’t have a problem with mineral oil but its been known to be the work of the devil for some skin types and if you’re a fan of cleansing oil it does prove challenging to find one that’s lacking the ingredient.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleansing Oil is a brand new cleansing oil from the brand that’s mineral oil free!

Let’s check it out!

A brand new mineral oil-free cleansing oil from Philosophy.

I love that cleansing oils are becoming more and more prominent in the US market. In Asia, they are part of women’s daily skincare regime and can be found in both drugstores and at higher end counters. Sadly, we haven’t quite reached the status of having a huge selection of cleansing oils available at our local drugstore as of yet but at least we can take advantage of having one available from some of our favorite brands such as Philosophy.

I’m a long term user and fan of Purity up until recently. Sadly, I had to discontinue using it because it wasn’t playing nice with my drier skin so happy days that they now have extended the popular Purity line to include a cleansing oil.

Those who have never used a cleansing oil before automatically curl their noses up and shake their heads in denial about putting oil on their faces to remove makeup particularly those with oily skin but honestly, once you go the cleansing oil route you’ll never go back to traditional cleansers again. Cleansing oils rinse clean away and remove makeup in a snap including harder to remove waterproof eye makeup.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleansing Oil has a thinner, watery texture which at first I didn’t like as I prefer a thicker oil however after trying it out I really like it. It rinses clean away and does a excellent job of removing all my makeup easily and fuss-free.

To use you simply apply on a dry, full of makeup face, and massage in. Now add a little water to emulsify the oil, it’ll start to turn white and milky. After that rinses!

Done!

Makeup off and your skin is soft and smooth. No worries it doesn’t leave behind a greasy, oily feel.

One of the things I really liked about the oil was the fact that it didn’t give me cloudy, trippy vision, if you use cleansing oil you know exactly what I mean. It also didn’t overly strip my face so I wasn’t left feeling tight or dry after use. I took note it smells as lovely as the original Purity as well with a soothing sandalwood scent.

Grrr! It does not contain a pump. Total pet peeve of mine. It has a flip top that allows you to squeeze and squirt the oil into your hands but I find this a tad messy to use and would have preferred a pump.

  • Those seeking a cleansing oil that’s mineral oil free.
  • Those wanting to remove makeup even waterproof eyeshadow and mascara in one simple step.
  • Those wanting a gentle yet effective cleansing oil that cleans skin easily without making it tight after use.

  • Those who like thicker, richer cleansing oils (this is a bit thinner and watery compared to Asian cleansing oils).
  • Those who prefer a pump style packaging.

The packaging needs a little work and Philosophy should probably consider some sort of pump for this but aside from that I slap a Muse Approval on it for purchase. I normally don’t like thinner cleansing oils but this proved a treat to use as it didn’t make my eyes cloudy, left my face feeling very smooth, cleaned easily, and just performed fantastically well. It’s gentle yet very effective.

Overall, I feel like it’s well worth a haul!

Try it out for yourself, I think you’ll love it!

This is so exciting! I love the smell of purity, so I think I’d love this too. Is this your favorite cleansing oil to date, or would you recommend others over this? Thanks!

  • winni

How do you like this one compared to the Origins one? Thx for the.review!

    • the Muse

um good question winni. I’m gonna throw it out there and say I like this one better. It has a really nice formula. I’m normally not in favor of thinner oils but I liked this alot!

  • Irene

SOLD!! thanks so much for the review… I made a comment on their facebook page about lack of pump when you first posted about the product. Who knows if it’ll go anywhere but if more people say something, maybe they’ll do a pump. I mean, they started selling pumps for their wash/lotions.

    • the Muse

irene stop back and let me know what you think after you tried, I’ve very impressed with it. Good call! I truly believe some of these brands take social media very seriously and are really listening to what we say so I def won’t be surprised if a pump comes soon ;D!

  • Tracy

I was iffy about cleansing oils but I bought Josie Maran’s and I’m hooked! I’ll have to try this one next!

  • Mina

I am currently using Etude House dream cleansing oil light… its a bit watery but it still has the cloudy vision most cleansing oils have. I might give this a try since i hate the cloudy vision effect after i clean my face. 😀

  • Kat

I’m still getting used to the Bobbi Oil, how would you think they compare?

Philosophy is getting into all the popular Asian trends…can we keep our fingers crossed for BB cream!?

I’m waiting until it comes to Ulta before trying it. For now I try and use Olive Oil at least once a week, especially the day I do a lactic acid peel. Thanks for the review!

    • the Muse

my pleasure jolene ;D I look forward to hearing your thoughts after you try ;D!

  • Gia

I’m excited! Haven’t visited in awhile and of course when i’m looking for a new oil, the orgins one did not make me happy, you have a good review! I will have to try this one!

  • Colin

I haven’t actually used this one, but just a quick comment as a chemist. The general rule is that like dissolves like, so you ideally want a cleansing oil to match as closely as possible the products you are using i to remove. This is why mineral oil is often a good choice. This product uses some things that are pretty similar to mineral oil combined with some more other quite diverse ingredients. I’d imagine it would work across quite a wide range of uses.

  • Ceecee

I’ve always been a fan of this brand. I’m Asian so I grew up on Shu Uemura. How does Philosophy compare to Shu? Thanks.

    • the Muse

Hi CeeCee really a big fan of Shu too. Philosophy’s version is thinner, shu’s runs much thicker plus this is mineral oil free where as Shu’s version is not.
