Review: Happy Birthday Shiseido Ma Cherie Shampoo and Conditioner, the Muse Loves You!

How far are you willing to go for beauty?

I’d dig a hole to China if it meant I could get my favorite beauty goodies or in this case that hole would lead straight to Japan and an abundant supply of my favorite shampoo, Shiseido Ma Cherie.

Jump!

My normal hair products of choice would be from Lush Cosmetics since I tend to avoid silicones in my haircare however I do indulge in Shiseido Ma Cherie Shampoo, Conditioner, and styling products more often than I’d be willing to admit.

It’s one of my very favorite shampoo lines from Shiseido and it’s celebrating its first anniversary this year so value packs of the products are available all over drugstores and specialty beauty shops in Japan.

I think the novelty of the product is the fragrance. I’ve tried the entire line including styling products and they perform quite well but there isn’t anything particularly special about them outside the delightfully strong fragrance. Whenever I use the products I always end up getting compliments and questions about what perfume I am wearing when in fact it’s my hair that they are smelling!

I’m not really sure what the notes are but it’s delightful fresh floral blend that’s quite unique and special. The scent is really strong so a single wash will leave your hair heavily perfumed. I normally follow up with the hair fragrance as well which makes the throw even stronger. The scent lingers way long unlike any shampoos I’ve tried in US drugstores.

I do wish Shiseido would consider offering Ma Cherie and some of the other hair lines in US drugstores le sigh!

The products here were gifted to me by a friend but I’ve seen many of them available via E-bay, Sasa, and other online shops if you want to try but airmail could prove a tad high for larger bottles like you see here so perhaps try a sample set before committing to a full size.

Absolutely love Ma Cherie, total Muse Approval.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Have you tried their Tsubaki shampoos? If so which do you like better?
I have super long hair and it tends to be very dry. I don’t know which to get now :c

Hi kim. the Tsubaki actually works better than this but this smells better than the Tsubaki imho! I like the white label as the red makes my scalp itchy and weights my hair down in a major way. 🙂 the white label makes my hair bouncy and super shiny works a treat on dryness as well since I have dry hair too!

If it works for your dry scalp, I’m worried about mine as I hv oily scalp. I just bought the volume shampoo and conditioner and hope it’s not too oily.

Shiseido owns Joico, so some of the items are now pretty close preformance and scent wise. The Joico thickening line smells like a combo of the white and red Tsubaki line. Not as strong as the red but not as sweet as the white, at least to me. The new Joico Kpak color line (with the argon oil) smells very Shisedo-esque.

agreed comrade but ma cherie doesn’t smell like the tsubaki line to my nose, it seems more fresh and flora…or am I nuts?!

Ma Cherie doesn’t seem to have the sweetness Tsubaki has. I think that makes it smell fresher. I think it’s supposed to smell younger, but not as young as the Tessa line did.

I liked this stuff too but I couldn’t bring it all home from Japan so I ended up getting “hair fragrance”… just “hair fragrance” that smelled exactly like it. I spray it on my wigs after I clean them lol good choice Muse!

Is there any fragrance in the U.S. that smells similar to the Ma Cherie line? I have the hair essence oil, air feel treatment, and the hair fragrance but i dont want to re-purchase them because other than the air feel treatment the containers cannot be recycled. I love the smell so much though. Im a huge “green” person.

mmm not really no allysa I wish there was but can’t think of a single thing that smells close.

Which Lush Shampoo do you normally like to use? I’m trying to find a supplementary shampoo. I’m a lush fan too and my favourite is BIG.
