Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Shadow Pot Review, Swatches, Photos
Unbeknownst to me, Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Shadow Pot have been hiding on QVC for a while now. Dude, how did I not know about these?
I’m off my game I guess.
Recently, a few new shades were introduced for Summer and that’s how I learned about these little guys. Each one comes with it’s own brush and is $23.
The formula is made with micronized Amazonian clay which intensifies color pigments all whole working to nourish the skin and reduce surface oil. Sounded like an idea solution for oily skin if it helps reduce surface oil eh? It’s also free from parabens, mineral oil, petrolatum, and other nasties! The shadows promise to create a layer of product that basically wears well through sweat and tears without creasing for hours of wear time.
Let’s see how they perform!
A cream eyeshadow that promises a long wearing formula.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Shadow Pot are deceiving at first glance. When I got my package of pots I immediately thought, “OMG these are so small!” The pots may appear tiny but actually they have the same amount of product in them as a MAC Fluidline (0.1 oz). After I knew I was getting a nice amount of product I started embracing the smaller pots since my stash does so overfloweth and I appreciate smaller packaging since it proves easier to store however the smaller pots aren’t finger friendly (my finger doesn’t quite squeeze in comfortably) so the brush they come with is a necessary evil for application!
I appreciate that Tarte included a brush for application because as I mentioned above they the pots are a little too tiny for finger application. The brush is a domed head and allows you to easily paint the shadows onto your lid. Once you have the shadow in place on your lid using the brush you can go to down blending out with fingertips!
I liked the formula alot. It blends easily and has a sheer to medium color pay off that builds easily. The formula glides onto lids and leaves behind quite a nice metallic finish. These are quite firm but they still manage to have a silky, silicone-like bounce to them. These blend very easily and the formula remains tacky to the touch for just the right amount of time to blend out properly before drying down to a smooth, silky finish. Originally I used them on my lids alone and they work quite well as is but you can easily use as a base for your powder products as well since powder wears well on top without creasing or migrating.
At first I was skeptical that they would be a treat for oily lids but I think they might work out well. My own lids are dry however the finish on these seems to dry down matte and locks onto the lid very well which leads me to believe they might very well be a good option for those with oily lids however I was a bit worried at first since the texture has a bouncy, silicone-like feel but the dry down is quite silky and mattifying.
I tried four of the eight shades which are Moss (olive green), Beach Bronze (cooper penny bronze), Slate (taupe), and Seashell Pink (pale frosty pink). My favs were Moss and Beach Bronze as they complimented my brown eyes brilliantly. Seashell Pink will compliment a tan very nicely as it’s a cooler frosty pink that should work great with a bronze pink look. The colors are all very vibrant and have a metallic-like effect with a a bare hint of sparkle.
I wouldn’t recommend these for less than smooth eyes. They might be a little too heavy if you have a wrinkled lid and I imagine they’ll crease a fair bit but proper prepping and priming might ease the way!
- Cream shadow lovers!
- Those who want a multitasking product that will act as a shadow or as a base for powders.
- Those wanting a long wearing eyeshadow (I actually swam in these yesterday and did experience a little fading but for the most part my eyes were still rockin’).
- Those with oily lids (I THINK they might be a good choice for oily lids as they seem to dry down to a nice, smooth matte finish).
- Those with a less than smooth eye area (I picture these or any cream shadow really being a bit of a paint to apply on uneven eye lid that might sport wrinkles).
- Finger girls (if you’re a hands on kinda girl and like to apply using your fingers you might find the jar is a little too small for such application methods)!
Overall, I really liked the Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Shadow Pots! They wear beautifully long all day (it was humid out the days I was wearing them and I experienced no fading or creasing), have a formula that blends out dreamily and blends easily, plus they make an excellent base for powders. MAC, of course, has a similar product available with a lower price tag however these pots do include a brush and have far more friendlier formula (paraben and mineral oil free) than MAC’s version.
Likey lots!
Well worth a try out!
