The Best Lightweight Moisturizer for Summer: Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel Cream

Now that the warm weather is settling in you probably should start stashing away those heavier, rich moisturizers and start replacing them with lighter ones.

The US market doesn’t have a ton of lightweight gel moisturizer options but the one we do have is a winner!

Best lightweight moisturizer for Summer?

Garnier got it covered!

I purchased and reviewed Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel Cream last Summer and ever after it’s been a staple in my skincare routine for days I want a lighter moisturizer.

Now that Summer is here it proves the ideal solution for a refreshing, lightweight way to hydrate my skin with an oil-free gel that absorbs easily and leaves my skin incredibly moist and dewy without being oily or greasy plus it seals moisture in. It’s a basic, simple approach to skincare.

If you haven’t read my full review please click here for it!

I wanted to take a second out and re-mention this product as a sample of it recently popped into my mail box and I enjoyed it so much I thought it was well worth a good word and a Muse Approval again since Summer is pretty much here and lightweight is the keyword when it comes to moisturizer.

If you haven’t already tried it I highly recommend it.

Check it out at www.garnier.com or your local CVS.

And please do shout at me if you tried it, curious what you thought of it!

Looking forward to your mini reviews and comments!

Definitely on my summer wish list.. luckily the weather has been crap here so I still have some time to pick it up. 🙂

side note.. I love garnier products… they smell so wonderfully clean!

    • the Muse

tiny def love the scent agreed ;-D get this! You’ll love it…..same here…it’s just now becoming warm but we had one of heck of a dull Spring! Rain, rain, rain!

  • JoElla

I haven’t tried this one yet but I love the SPF formulation of the Moisture Rescue. It doesn’t make me oily or leave that whitish look all over my face, and it doesnt’ break me out.

  • Audrey C.

I went and got this based on your review, and I really wanted to love it but it’s just a weensy too light for my normally combo-to-oily skin, which is odd. But now that summer’s upon us, I will break it out and try it again… I just have too many moisturizers to go through as it is! XD

    • the Muse

interesting audrey seems an ideal pick for combo/oily! So sorry it didn’t work for you girl! me too groan! I have ALOT of gel moisturizers from Japan/Korea so it’s a tad absurd. I also just ordered the new DHC whitening line and was tempted by the JuJu one…! EEP! must be good. Plus wants the Kate Somerville spot treatment moisturizers…it’s a disease I tell ya a disease!!!!!!!! *runs away screaming*

      • Audrey C.

Tell me about it! I work at LUSH so with my discount, plus staff freebies, I’ve got a ton of skincare to go through, and then I go and buy more from other lines! I can’t help it!

  • Holly

LOVE this stuff! A great substitute for Clinique’s Moisture Surge that I use in the winter

  • Lisa

As soon the temperatures started getting warmer I stocked up on this moisturizer while it was on sale at Ulta. It is definitely my holy grail summer product!!

  • Jonnie

Hmm, may have to look this up… I have been looking around for a good summer moisturizer. I have Skin Food lettuce water jelly but it is almost gone.

      • Jonnie

Which one is your favorite, this one or the Skin Food one?

        • the Muse

skin good Jonnie, less fragrance! normally I’m not sensitive to fragrance and this has a nice scent but I prefer the skin food one b/c it’s not as fragranced plus I really like the entire regime…toner, mist, essence, etc….I wish garnier offered the same options as I’d buy it here rather than deal with expensive airmail!

          • Jonnie

Ahh, okay. I will stick with Skin Food then! As it is I think that is fairly strongly fragranced, and all the reports of breaking out with this are scaring me. Stuff breaks me out frequently if it is too heavily fragranced – to include body wash and laundry soap!

          • the Muse

they actually have new vita water gel moisturizers jonnie, you might wanna try ’em, from skin food that is ;-D! oh noooo! my mum has issues with my dad with that, he can’t take heavily fragranced laundry soap ;-D breaks out in hives haha!

          • Jonnie

Oh, sounds interesting! I will try looking for that.

Any good Skin Food eye cream recommendations?

          • the Muse

all of them, any of them jonnie! ;-D they are fab! Every single one they put out is always a winner HOWEVER I never notice a major difference in my eye area but they hydrate and absorb like no one’s biz if you are dry ;-D! I have reviews of a few of ’em in the archives https://www.musingsofamuse.com/category/skin-food

          • Jonnie

Ahh well, I can’t say as I have noticed any discernible difference wit any eye cream… but as I have got older I have definitely noticed the need for some heavier moisturizing!

          • the Muse

get the avocado rich balm for eyes Jonnie, ideal for SUPER dry eyes ;D!

  • Kel

I love this moisturizer! I have to admit that I bought it for the cute little luxurious looking jar but it worked out well.

  • Cj

Wow Muse! That was one of the first skincare products I ever got, and I just checked under the sink and I still have half a jar left lol! I wonder if it’s still good…

    • the Muse

ha cj ;-D check the back should have the little month thingy to let you know how long it’s good for!

  • Susan Guerra

I bought this around december because my normally oily skin was dried out by the lack of humidity (I live in Miami), and I loved it until the next day when it broke me out. Very refreshing and smells great though!

  • Courtney

A favorite of mine too. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, Love it!

  • lynn•

    Hey Muse!
I saw your review on this after I bought the gel and I agree with you. I just love it! I love the cooling effect and the fact that it absorbs easily. I actually layer this on after I use a whitening serum and it helps to prevent my face from drying out. And I must say, I’ve had it for 2 months now and I’m not even halfway through the bottle. A little of it goes a long way.

  • auroragyps

I should try this for my oily skin, but I wish it had SPF in it.

      • auroragyps

Yup. I do need a night time moisturizer though, so this might fit the bill.
Not only does my skin get oilier in the Summer, but all the sweating I do (I hate the hot weather) kills my skin. I don’t even go out that often, but the salt from sweat, and the constant wiping it away, basically ‘burns’ my skin.

  • Melissa

I love it! I have oily skin and started using it about last winter, I’m on my second one now!

  • heavymetaldiva

I got a sample of this in a magazine.I was excited to try it.It was light and asorbed in quickly..4 hours later I was broken out ,hot skin and itchy.Aawww rats.I’m allergic!

  • shusheshe

I’ve been using it recently, but it also makes any BB cream I use afterward on it sink into my pores making them look bigger than they are. Same thing with the Nars Sheer Glow foundation.

I’ve pretty much only using this at night now.

  • Jess

YAY thanks for this — I live for gel moisturizers and hate to pay the big bucks for the clinique moisture surge… now I can try this for a cheaper price! 😀

    • the Muse

my pleasure jess ;-D! Let me know how it works out for you!?

  • Nessa

    Hey Muse!

I picked this up at the end of winter and when I use it at night by morning my skin is tight and dried out! I really want to love this, especially at the great price, but I just can’t 🙁

    • the Muse

aw sorry Nessa…seriously never had issues with it in regards to break outs or dryness 🙁 and man my skin is ever dry girl! Sorry it didn’t work for you SNIFF!

  • Robin

I bought the Garnier SPF day lotion and like it. The gel is going to be my next purchase for the miserably hot summer ahead.

    • the Muse

it’s already starting to get sticky humid here Robin yak!

  • Nicole

I tried this about six months ago… It broke me out all over my cheeks 🙁

  • nancy

muse i just bought this, and i have a question, should i put this on after or before my lush grease lightning?

    • the Muse

nancy nooo use grease lightening on its own girl you’ll benefit the best from it that way.

  • Melissa

I picked this up the other day and you were right…not enough for my uber-dry skin. I have been using it on top of another moisturizer and that seems to do the trick. Also fyi- $5 at CVS this week, you can’t beat that!

  • butterdaisy

Just wanted to add that I love this stuff! Pretty much the perfect type moisturizer for me. The first product I’ve loved by them.

  • chase

this stuff is super cute! loves the pink one fo sho! however it broke me out a tad the next couple of days. i tried it for awhile after but i would still wake up with a zit or two. the pink one DOES smell like apples and it’s so refreshing and feels angelic upon application. didn’t make me oily or dry me out. if i didn’t wake up with zits this would be my HG moisturizer. i’m currently trying a discontinued l’oreal pore minimizer lotion and holy jeebus it works wonders. 🙂 feels like silk.

  • Kristen

I can’t wait to try this. I’m going to buy it today. I constantly struggle to find the right daily moisturizer mostly because of the smell. Not because they ARE scented but because they AREN’T. I find a lot of the unscented ones smell like dirt or something gross that I can’t put my finger on. I just tried philosophy’s hope in a jar and it smells awful. I hate to get hung up on smell when it is actually a good product but I can’t help it. I’m so excited to try this! I just recently discovered your blog and I love it. You rock! Oh BTW do you have an absolute fave moisturizer that you can’t live without?
    Thanks
