Baviphat Sugar Girl Candy Gloss Review, Swatches, Photos

Baviphat, or how I’m tempted to say it, “Baby Phat”, is a Korean brand that sells various makeup bits and bobs that has a certain Benefit Cosmetics feel and look.

An extension of their collection is called Sugar Girl. The products in this collection are geared towards a more youthful crowd….of course, me being the immature one, loves anything they do in the Sugar Girl Collection. I love cute makeup, sue me.

Baviphat Sugar Girl Candy Gloss might just remind you of a gloss I reviewed many a moon ago from Japanese brand Love Clover entitled PopChu Gloss. It may be a rehash packaging wise but the formula is quite different…

Check it!

Packaging wise Baviphat Sugar Girl Candy Gloss is a spot on dupe for PopChu. It comes in a sphere shape that resembles a lollipop. The handle can be removed to display the spatula applicator for application of the gloss. The spatula is one that many Asian beauty brands embrace. It allows for easy application of the product and produces far better results than any sponge applicator I own plus it’s easy to clean!

Packaging is cute but can prove impractical if you’re used to propping your gloss on the counter as you apply since this doesn’t stand up straight.

Where as Popchu has a quite thick formula that wears well Baviphat Sugar Girl Candy Gloss can’t speak for the same. This product comes in a rather large selection of shades and flavors and I was tempted to order several at once but was glad I got the one since it was a tad disappointing formula wise. The gloss is a very thin, watery consistency that has a high glossy finish but absorbs easily into lips within minutes of application so that high shine you get during first application fades very quickly. It does hydrate lips nicely however wear time is non existent due to the fact that the gloss absorbs so quickly into the skin. It sports a very subtle, barely there cherry flavor and for the most part remains clear when applied leaving zero tint or color pay off behind.

Although cute it’s no where near as nice as Love Clover’s version and the formula is sadly lacking. If you compulsively apply balms and glosses throughout the day to keep your lips moist this might be a nice indulgence but the drama of actually tracking it down at retail isn’t worth the effort as the formula is a tad weak. If you happen to live in Korea…well, it might be worth a purchase for keeping in your desk drawer for a little hydration but don’t expect much from this gloss.

Cute yes, worthy of purchase, probably not!

Can you believe it! I bought the similar glosses in an exact replica of the infamous Chupa Chups lollipop design in Singapore’s Watsons!

It came in the hot fav flavours of Chupa Chups – Strawberries and Cream, Grape, and Pineapple Mango! It tasted and smell so sweet just like the real lollies and of course I bought all 3 of them!

I just had to get them right?

    Slurpz! =P

No worries, Muse! I am a sucker (ugh, pun not intended) for cute makeup, too, and I’m 28! I still remember in middle school I got a lipsmackers peanut butter and jelly lip balm set. The peanut butter flavored balm was gross, but I just adored the gimmick. I’m never going to outgrow this love of cutesy stuff! They can try to pry it from my liver-spotted, glittered, dead hands 😛
