DuWop Caribbean IcedTeas Lip Treatment Review, Swatches, Photos

DuWop released three new IcedTeas Transulcent Lip Treatments with their Isla Sirena Collection. These aren’t a new idea by any means as DuWop had a tinted version that I reviewed in a prior post they are however, available in new, refreshing flavors.

Let’s take a look!

A flavorful lip balm with moisturizing properties!

DuWop IcedTeas are an interesting take on your run of the mill lip balm. My first time trying out an IcedTea I was disappointed as they are indeed a glorified lip balm however props to DuWop for tempting us with an pretty translucent design.

The Lip Treatments come in swivel up lipstick tube and sport a translucent design that’s pretty memorizing. It’s just something that catches your attention and makes you want it. For this release DuWop kept to a Caribbean cocktail theme in the flavor department. Unlike the original release they will not give lips a hint of color nor will do they have a shimmer finish. I mention the shimmer finish since the shades are translucent with a bit of glittery shimmer that doesn’t show up during application.

The new flavors are:

  • Mint Mojito
  • Butter Rum
  • Ruby Grapefruit

For the most part I thought the flavor in all of these was very subtle and barely there. The flavor is a tad uneventful and has a slightly strange underlay like cardboard.

The application is an easy glide on lips which leaves behind a balmy feel that’s neither slick nor waxy but simply soft and moisturizing.

I wasn’t too keen on the flavors and expected something with more pop to it. I’m a little disappointed they have zero tint unlike the originals which did leave behind a very subtle hint of color.

  • Those who like keeping lip balms handy for moisturizing and hydrating lips.
  • Those who apply a balm prior to gloss or lipstick (these make a great base).

  • Those who want a hint of color as well as hydration.
  • Those who are sensitive to flavored lip products.
  • Those expecting a shiny, glossy finish.

I think if you chronically apply gloss or balms throughout the day these may appeal. They work nicely as a base for glosses or lipstick as well. Personally I’m not a big fan. I’ve purchased one of these in the past and wasn’t particularly thrilled with the formula and honestly the Caribbean version isn’t any great improvement, if anything, the formula proves even more disappointing due to the lack of tint. They definitely made a nice effort here as even the outer packaging and box sports a new design however the formula remains as poor as the original.

Tried ’em in the past?

The translucence of the treatment is interesting! I really like the packaging but there is no reason (to me atleast) to buy!

I think the packaging, the overall design, and the idea of the product is brilliant Linda…but it’s just the formula isn’t all that amazing…:(

  • SusanT

I agree with Linda, the translucense is quite interesting. In this hot weather they look like they’d be so icy & cooling. I know they’re not, but I love the look, esp. the Ruby Grapefruit one.

  • Annabella Freeman

I was waiting so long for these but after reading this and other reviews I’m going to give them a miss. If they can’t get the flavour/scent really strong then what is the point eh?

  • Mara

I personally think $19 is steep for a novelty item like this. I’d rather try the Maybelline Pop Sticks for less than $5.

  • Felis

Also the moisture is not long-lived. Re-applying periodically is one thing, but re-applying the damn thing every twenty minutes is a pain. The cooling effect is nice but doesn’t make the price worth it.

    • the Muse

I get an hour in before it starts fading felis so yeah, reapplication pita!

    • the Muse

practically same exactly product but the maybelline ones are a little more shiner S 🙂

Thanks, Muse! You are SO quick w/your replies 🙂
Will you be reviewing the Maybelline ones soon? (hint, hint!)
