Milani Paint Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

Mmm…sometimes we have to eyeshadow grow up and comes to terms with the fact that nude and natural shades rule supreme in the game of aging. I love pops of color but I’m getting older and I can’t quite pull them off as well as I used too.

If you’re thinkin’ Duran Duran, leg warmers, and snap bracelets (please tell me you remember snap bracelets?) for your Summer might as well add in a few shades of bright, neon eyeshadow to go along with your stylin’.

The new Milani Paint Eyeshadow Palette has me wanting to taste the rainbow and the 80’s.

Jump!

A limited edition kaleidoscope palette from Milani that features seven shades of matte eyeshadow.

The Milani Paint Eyeshadow Palette is available for a limited time in special displays at CVS so keep your eyes peeled if you’re wanting it after you read the review.

Milani did a good job with the design of the palette as it’s a rather fun kaleidoscope wheel design that features seven shades of shadow. The formula on all the shades is matte sadly so if matte and neon aren’t your thing you might want to step away. I think beauty junkies will probably just want to own it because…don’t lie, I’m sure you’ve had those makeup moments where you just wanted to own something “because”….in the case of the Paint Eyeshadow Palette I’m kinda leaning towards saying I want it just because…it’s different, unique, and kinda a fun part of my collection at the moment.

The shadows are all baked into a single powder format and come housed in a plastic flip top design compact. The design of the compact mimics that of the baked bronzer that Milani puts out size wise but has a thinner design. It’s nicely made and doesn’t feel cheap or shabby in my opinion. It does lack Milani’s traditional gold packaging which I’m not a particular fan of.

The shadows are fairly easy to dip into even though they are connected together. There is plenty of room to dabble a brush or sponge applicator in without running into other shades.

The palette is made up of bright, neon shades of blue, green, purple, yellow, orange, pink, and white.

The formula isn’t so fabulous…

As with any matte formula this runs a tad chalky and works best when applied over a cream base. I find the shades swatch badly and need an extra heavy hand to yield color pay off. Under a cream base you’ll see much better pigmentation and the shades will blend better. They blend a little harsh when applied without a good base but this is due to the matte finish and the bolder colors not necessarily Milani’s formula.

Matte are always difficult to blend and work with in my opinion so the palette isn’t suffering from a bad formula really just a bad finish.

  • Anyone who loves mattes and works with them easily.
  • Anyone who loves bold shades of eyeshadow.
  • Anyone who loves unique and interesting shades of eyeshadow.
  • Those who like owning makeup just “because…”

  • Those who don’t work well with matte shadows.
  • Those who aren’t keen on very bright shades of neon.

I think the Milani Paint Eyeshadow Palette proved a very unique and interesting palette. Some of the colors are a bit too much for my eyes but I really loved combing orange and yellow for a bright, sunny look plus I can lighten up the matte finish with a bit of shimmer from my own stash. I give it a little bit of a thumbs down because of the matte finish but the palette itself is fun and well made.

Heck, I admit that I just wanted it because….! Makeup junkies totally get that.

If you like bold and funky this is a great way to get it on at a budget price.

Available now at CVS for a limited time.

Super cute- and of course most of us junkies have bought something based more on it’s cuteness rather than on it’s usefulness as a product (Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows, anyone?) At least this is a price-worthy splurge!

BTW, I know how you feel about bright colors as we age; I have to share my best tip for adding brights to the eyes for people who are timid about wearing them but still want to try. Get a smudger brush (my fav is Lancome’s #10) and add the bright color just around the lash line of an otherwise neutral eye- it’ll still look subtle and soft, but adds a nice pop of color!

ha jessica good to know I’m NOT alone there ;-D!

      Great tip!!!!!!!!! 🙂

  • Jessica

I WANT! I love love love the design! And i’m wanting to experiment with some matte shades for summer so this would be perfect! would be, i livein the UK and as far as i know you cant get milani here, major sad face!
I also have a confession to make, i just sat on the MAC website for a good hour or so, adding whatever i wanted to the shopping basket.. it came up to over 2000… obsessive or what? oh the shame.. xxx

    • the Muse

LOL Jessica you’re TOO cute! We’ve all been through the fantasy shopping cart, it’s ok, we can relate hahaha ;-D AW poo! try e-bay chica could be one for a good price!

If you live in the UK and want similiar colors to this, try the Sleek Acid palette. It was the first thing that I thought of when I saw this. It have crazy bright color, most of which are matte and the pigmentation is brilliant! I don’t like that the milani palette has colors running into each other. That’s a packaging pet peeve of mine! Even if the colors are large enough that at first its not a problem when you start to hit pan it will be. The Sleek one doesn’t have that.

      • Jessica

thanks Heidi! I’ve been wanting to try some sleek products so i think i’ll be getting that palette:)

  • Jessica

haha! and thanks for the tip! i’ve also found some great sties for cheap makeup, cosmetics4less and cosmetics fairy, but i’m not sure if they ship to the US..

I love slap bracelets! We actually had them banned at my school b/c people would hit each other with them. So sad. lol I recently saw a hair accessory that looked like a snap bracelet. I think it went around a pony or a bun. Not sure. Anyway…pretty colors but not for me. Maybe a good little gift for a teen?

  • Christine

So I’m pretty much as anti-neon shadows as they come. Bright liners? Oh yes. Bright shadows? No. Almost never.

Butttt from the first time I saw this I just wanted it… Just because :). I won’t seek it out, but if I happen to be in CVS in the next month and a bright Milani palette happens to catch my eye….. Well obviously that’s just fate. And who am I to say no to fate :P?

  • Kayla

I don’t think I’ll be picking this up. Neon is not my thing (I don’t even like neon nail polish) and I’m too broke to purchase it just for the sake of its awesomeness :[ but speaking of slap bracelets… I work at Tilly’s in the mall and we have snap WATCHES now. Wtf?!

  • Carrie

Very cute! Oh, and I totally remember slap bracelets! I had tons, lol.

  • Maria

I definitely want it!!! No.1 It’s so cuuuuute!! No.2 I’ve been on a bold graphic eye kick for a while, and this is perfect. No.3 I DO remember snap bracelets….which means I probably shouldn’t be doing No.2, but I simply refuse to change or tone down my “make-up play time” simply because I’m….older. ^_^

  • Barb

I likey! I think I’ll get this to try, if not for the full lid coverage then the liner.

Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Duran Duran. They are still rocking and releasing new music. Also, I loved leg warmers and snap bracelets too!

I went to cvs the other day to find this but I couldn’t find it 🙁 do you know if they sell it online ?

  • AJ

I was able to order this palette from the Milani website late last week.

Just arrived today, so I haven’t yet tried it, but it is now on the website so thought you would want to know! 😀

Looks just like the above picture, except the large yellow area is orange, and the yellow is in the much smaller spot next to the purple.

    • the Muse

thanks aj! they had told me exclusive to cvs so it’s good to know it’s online! ;-D

  • DivineMsN

I’m late to the game but I got a slap watch the other day. I was in junior high heaven!

    • the Muse

OMG a slap watch that’s even better than a slap bracelet divine ;D! take pictures!
