Open Thread Volume 3

Open Thread is a time we can all gather together and discuss our week, our life, our new favorite makeup, a current purchase…anything! That’s why it’s open thread, it’s the option to discuss makeup or anything else on your mind! It’s a time I can talk to you and you can talk to me and hopefully you’ll talk to each other too!

Oh hai peeps!

Hello there. Having a good week? Mine seemed long! We have amazing weather in New York today. Sunny, balmy, cool….just right compared to the humid filled 90’s early this week.

Any good weekend plans?

This week I shared a few great things with you!

Yo, the Inbetweeners trailer (please don’t click play if you have children in the room, you’re at work, or you’re easily offended)! OMG how brills was that? I know some of you loved it. I got my wellies out! I’m heading in with the boys!

I finished reading Providence by Jamie McGuire this week. It’s this emo, mushy romance between a guy that’s half angel and a girl attending Brown. There’s alot of mushy “I love you so much, I can’t live without you” crap going on in the book but for some reason the author’s attention to detail really grabbed my attention so much so that I couldn’t stop reading even though the mushy stuff was overwhelming and the really cool details like demons, hell, and angels were background noise for the romance of the book…meh…but I still want to read the follow up book called Requiem.

Anyone read it?

What’s on your Summer reading list?

And finally it’s Harry Potter weekend! w00t! I can’t wait to see it. I’m heading in for the midnight showing today/tomorrow.

It’s Open Thread peeps…go on and share.

Btw…a song dedicated to all of you from me….I feel so close to you all! Awww mushy sniff tear…!

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. I just picked up my tickets today during my break at work for Harry Potter 🙂

I’ve had them on reserve for months. Last year, they opened theaters here at 7pm. It was INSANE. But this time they’re running it on 24 of the 30 theaters here available. I’m going all out this year and dressing up with my friend, clad in Gryffindor colored makeup 😀

    • the Muse

YAY jen!!!!!!!!!! got mine handy too! ;-D I’m dressing up too! I can’t wait. It was pretty hectic here too last year but it wasn’t TOO too bad since we got there early enough. ENJOY! wish we could go together!

  • Jen

Hahaha, I need to get my butt up to New York, as I have never been…Ohio’s a little dull, and the weather here is so bipolar it’s unbelievable.

And, holy cow, I’m almost as excited for the new Batman preview they’re supposed to show before the actual movie D:

    • the Muse

aw you got Cleveland! ;-D it rocks! hehe ;-D I gave up on batman *bows head* just wasn’t doing it for me…!

      • Jen

        Cleveland, Cincinnati, Cedar Point (bwahahaha). But Columbus really only has Easton and Ohio State xD;

And, yeah…I’m a might disappointed with Christopher Nolan placed Anne Hathaway as Selena Kyle/Cat Woman…oi. But, I have an entire bookshelf of Batman graphic novels (they’re starting to outnumber my manga, yikes!), and he’s made the best movies so far, despite that Tim Burton’s will always have a special place in my heart. Haha.

        • the Muse

come to New York Jen! You can bunk with me ;-D! I honestly can’t picture her as Cat Woman at all! I actually don’t read batman either surprisingly as I’m a big graphic novel/manga fan but batman was never one gracing my shelves ;-D maybe I’m missing out!!!!!!!!!! Tim Burton’s version of BM was as over time as he is ;-D!

  • Cj

    Hey Muse 🙂
I’m deff looking forward toHP, I’m in the middle of watching the old movies all over again to make sure I’m all caught up 😛
I really can’t wait till the weekend! My friend and I are heading to the spa for the day. After this hectic week, a day of total relaxation is exactly what I need :D!

    • the Muse

CJ I was SO hoping to get to rewatching them all but it didn’t happen damn ;-D Lucky! I wish I was coming! ;-D I could use a nice facial! HAVE fun!

  • rainbow

I’m super pumped for Harry Potter!!! (heard the reviews are AMAZING) But I have to ask, where is my HP makeup line??? There’s been PIrates, Twilight, and Trueblood (oh my!) , but I’m desperate for a Hogwarts palette!

    • Jayne

OHMYGAW, I can’t believe this thought never crossed my mind. That is a brilliant idea! Oh, it would be gorgeous, too, wouldn’t it? Mmmm…

  • Jayne

ARGH, I want to go see HP this weekend in a ridiculous way. But, between work, homework, and family visiting from Texas I just will not have the opportunity. The theaters will be less crowded then, too! (Hopefully.) I will probably go when the BF and I both have some time next weekend. And THEN I will break out the blue and bronze Ravenclaw makeup!

As far as summer reading, I’ve already read the new Sookie Stackhouse book, and right now I am conquering The Stand like a champ! Only 400 more pages to go! After that, I will probably start on Sharp Teeth, as Danny Boyle is supposedly directing a film adaptation! Yay!

    • the Muse

jayne you’re ravenclaw? ;-D I’ve always fancied myself a Hufflepuff! gosh…I should re-read the stand…..did you see the mini series? Danny Boyle rocks! ;-D ps next weekend is a solid choice imho! theaters are and will be packed all weekend EEP!

      • Jayne

Uh, yes. 1) I’m a complete bookworm/nerd. and 2) There’s really nothing prettier than blue and bronze, now is there?! Haha. I started watching the mini-series, but never finished it! I really didn’t want the book to be ruined.

I ordered my first BB cream yesterday! Missha was running a pretty nice sale with the M Perfect Cover so I went for it! I also got the sampler, the cleansing oil, and BB Boomer!

PS. A friend of mine just posted a FB pic from the midnight premiere where someone had written “THIS WAS TO THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC” on a toilet in the theater. Hahahaha.

  • tina

ooo providence sounds interesting! i’m picking that up immediately!

  • Cait

I’m going to see Harry Potter tomorrow night! I wanted to go to the midnight showing, but since I have work at 8:30 am the following morning i didn’t think it would be the best idea 🙁 I’m headed into NYC on Sunday…I hope the weather stays nice!

    • the Muse

cait it wasn’t lol…speaking from experience…;-D I’m at my office now and I feel like I’m nursing a head ache haha…got in around 4am, was up by 6am…not a good idea…I’m too old for this haha! yay enjoy the city! I heard it’s supposed to be gorgeous. I’m out of the city for the weekend but I hear great weather ;-D

  • Steph

I’m actually reading Robocalypse right now and it’s pretty good, but reminds me of World War Z but with ROBOTS.

    So it’s pretty bad ass.

    • Steph

My bad it’s Robopocalypse! I knew I totally spelled that wrong! Anyways it’s written by Daniel Wilson. 🙂

  • Littlecreek81

It’s been a HP week at my house. My husband and I have been re-watching all the movies and I’ve been making foods from my HP cookbook (unauthorized of course but still fun). We had Yorkshire Pudding and roast beef last night. I felt so British lol. On your recommendation I bought Providence since I needed a new book to start. I’m almost 30 but a sucker for semi-emo romance stuff. This sounds similar to the Fallen series that I really liked. On other entertainment fronts Haven starts up again tomorrow on sci-fi and I am very excited. My only purchase this week has been Rimmel’s Stay Matte pressed powder. So far I’ve been really liking it, no frills, just a nice matte powder. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

    • the Muse

littlecreek please please please update me when you are done/started I wanna know what you think of Providence! Yorkies and Roast Beef NOM! you should have invited me over ;-D! Have a GREAT weekend!

    • the Muse

was quite well done Courtney ;-D not the books but still good!

  • tiny

Ok so.. Revlon scented nailpolish.. coconut one.. not a fan.. I’m a fruity scented fan.. this is more floral perfumy.. it definitely does have some strong base notes of coconut, but it’s surrounded with this floral perfumy scent.. it’s not for me.. it’s been a week.. every time I wash my hands it recharges the smell.. I’m gonna try some of the fruityer smells and see if I like them better..

Sephora 12 hour jumbo eyeliner crayon thingies.. AMAZING!!! They work like the UDPP jumbo shadow pencils in that.. you can use them as an eyeshadow without putting a shadow over them to set them.. however. THEY’RE ONLY 10$!!!!!!!!!! I’m so in love! I want them all now!!! they have AMAZING staying power! The only down side is you have to do one eye at a time because they set pretty fast, so you have to put it on, blend it out, if you want more color, put a little more on, blend it out.. until you’re happy with it.. *which all depends on if you want a light wash or bold color* then do the other eye.. No creasing, no budging, easy on the wallet.. A+ sephora!

    • the Muse

ooo no tiny…that stinks! I didn’t try them. I was going to buy them for my sister, she’s a big nail girl, but she’s more about french manicures on her tips and colored on her toes..so seemed pointless. YAYYYYYYYYYY I have a few i purchased and haven’t tried them DEF need to get on that! thanks for telling me ;D!

      • tiny

I was pretty disappointed with the color payoff on the revlon scented polish anyway.. it was veeeeeeery sheer, but the sparkles were pretty, like shattered glass, It might make an interesting topcoat.

Yeah, those sephora crayons are the SHIZZZZ!

        • the Muse

hey tiny totally helpful if anyone wanted to haul those ;-D!!!!!!!!!!

  • jackieg02

Hey Muse! I can’t wait for Harry Potter! I think I’ll be seeing it on Sunday.
I will definitely check out that book. I like your book recommendations. You mentioned reading Beautiful Creatures once, and I loved that book.
Or maybe we can lend some books on our nook! =) lol
    Love ya Muse!

    • the Muse

My lips are sealed than Jacks until you see it ;-D! Yayyyy I’m so glad you enjoyed beautiful creatures, did you read the sequel? ;-D YES! let’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! email your deets that would be brilliant ;-D we should create a nook lending circles…I cheat on my kindle ;-D hehe! Hugs! love ya back jacks!

      • jackieg02

Wait. You have a Kindle and a nook? You are too much for me Muse! lol 😉

        • the Muse

lol yeah jackie *head desk* I started out with a Kindle and than nook color released….I gotta admit I still love Kindle more than Nook…but I find I use the Nook more. I wish Amazon would create a similar tablet as I’d be all over it as I HATE barnes and noble shopping…amazon’s recommendations are so much better!

          • the Muse

did I mentioned I also have an ipad *head desk twice* LOL

  • auroragyps

I’m behind on the HP movies, but I’ve read all the books. I’m fine waiting for them to come to Netflix.

I used to read like a fiend, but I rally haven’t been doing much the last few years. I’m trying to fix that this Summer. I just finished Gaimen’s The Graveyard Book, which was cool. I also read the latest Mercy Thompson book by Briggs & that was good too (I have to catch up on a few more of hers). Waiting for the latest Dresden book from the library and I’m going to re-read the Game of Thrones books (mine are in storage & they’ve been coming into the library out of order 🙁 ) before the newest one comes in. After that, I think I’m going to read a bunch of Robin Hobb, plus I still have to finish Mona Lisa Overdrive by Gibson AND The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian the anthology by REH.

    • the Muse

auro nothing is like the books ;-D so that’s perfectly cool you are behind on the flicks as far as I am concerned ;-D I loved tGB from Gaimen ;-D what did you think? I’m a little behind on Dresden…did you like the tv series…was so short lived? I’d like to sit down and reread GoT again but that might be years from now ;-D It’s a hard book to get through..it would be a cool retirement book to reread lol! I just downloaded a buncha new books, hoping I can actually delve in, not enough hours in the day ;D!

      • auroragyps

I loved Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, and Storm of Swords when I first read them around 2002. Of course, I thought it was just a trilogy, which was not the case, just like so many fantasy & sci fi series. I read them pretty fast, but I’m a fast reader. It’s rare for me to get stuck reading a book, as long as nothing comes up to keep me from reading.

I really like tGB. It was a cool concept. I like a lot of Gaimen’s stuff, including Sandman & the early Books of Magic.

I LOVE Dresden and am almost totally caught up (I didn’t finish the anthology). Not only do I love the books but James Marsters does an amazing job reading the audio versions. I did not like the series. Talk about an example of books not being like the movie/TV show. Gaimen’s Coraline is a great example, because I’m trying to watch the movie, but I already read the book and the differences are really ticking me off. I’m almost dreading seeing GoT when it comes on DVD, but so many people that have the read the books have good things to say, that I’m hoping I’ll feel like they do.

      • amber

I saw Gaimen read excerpts from TGB before it was released and was so enthralled but have yet to read it. I am reading Starcrossed, after finishing The Goddess Test. Both are YA but centered on Greek mythology. Fun reads. I have Chelsea Handler’s new one next on my list, which surprised me it is stories from people in her life, not her writing. I am also hoping to read the Game of Thrones series as we have been watching on HBO and my husband is a huge fan. I am an old school actual book person, but for you fancy electronic book people, many libraries now offer free downloads of books that expire like a normal library check out.

I am sad I didn’t see HP at midnight like the last one, but we are planning for Mon night or Tues when my husband’s workshift ends. I am excited but really sad that this is the last piece of HP. I cried when I bought HP7 and again when I finished it. JK’s interview on Oprah about her mom’s passing and how it influenced her idea of love and death in the books really hit home with me.

  • auroragyps

PS: I totally forgot that I started On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers last night, the book the latest PotC movie was kind of based on. So far ‘meh’, but I was pretty tired when I was trying to read it.

  • Sara

I’ve been furiously reading A Dance with Dragons (1/2 way through) and trying to finish it as soon as possible. It’s keeping me from hanging out on the intertubes too much because buttholes with spoilers lurk everywhere. I also avoid the intertubes after big boxing events for the same reason. But I had to drop in and see mah Muse! Flipping through your tweets makes me wanna see what’s going on. :p

I’ll probably still be MIA until it’s finished but will check in as much as I can. Gotta see what reviews you’ve got up your sleeve! And damn man, can I say you are drowning a mofo in posts?? I’ve avoided the computer for two days and am on page four lookin’ at new shit! Damns, you’re rocking it out this week.

  • Miss D

Awww…thanks for the sweet song Muse! I’m sure that’s how everyone who has the pleasure of having you in their life feels about you too! Have a wonderful weekend beautiful and enjoy the movie! 🙂

  • kharanya

I just finished reading “Dance of Dragons” (new game of thrones book) and am going to be suffering for prolly another 6 yrs unless someone lights a fire under George. R.R. Martin’s ass. Totally dying to see HP but we were thinking to at least wait a few days to avoid the crowds. Hope you enjoyed it!

  • Cierrah

The final Harry potter was amazing! I went to a midnight premiere too and I love love loved it <3 so perfect. Lots of emotion. So sad knowing there won't be another one /: but the whole series is so wonderful that it's hard to look at it with a sad eye. You can always re-read and re-watch, the magic will never fade.
p.s. I'm still wearing my wristband from the premiere xD ya know, just in case my theory about the magic is wrong, I have a solid reminder lol.

    • the Muse

I agreed cierrah, I’m still a very big fan of the books over the movies but I really loved it ;-D That’s too true! In a few years time I hope ti sit down and reread it again ;-D! lol..!

  • Claudia

I saw HP at midnight too Muse, sorry my computer has been having some difficulties so I haven’t been able to comment. Nevertheless I will go to the end of the earth to get to read musings! Man I have a lot on my reading list, for school we have a few we need to read and such. Currently weeding through The Bean Trees and after that Inherit The Wind. Ever read either?

    • the Muse

hey claudia…got your pc working? ;-D LOL aw thanks cheers! ;-D How’d you like HP? ;-D I’ve read Inherit the Wind but never The Bean Trees, I did read Pigs in Heaven though! are both required school reading for you?

      • Claudia

Harry Potter was amazing! Goodness probably my favorite of them all. What did you think of Inherit the Wind? Yes both are required along with Speak, which I have already finished. Which was wonderful by the way. Have a good week Muse! (even though its almost Wednesday! hehe)

  • zang

Nice open thread! I like the song by Miss Shanghai! go HARRY POTTER! btw, didn’t mean to comment twice on the contest for the Dr. Jart stuff. I meant to correct my grammar and the computer was too fast for me to stop the first message 🙁

    Take care!

    • the Muse

no worries zang ;-D haha my grammar sucks too…I’m always rushed and never correctly it ;-D
