Bath & Body Works Black Candy Apple Body Lotion Review

Black Candy Apple is one of six new Halloween Body Lotions that Bath & Body Works has released for Fall/Halloween 2011. These body lotions are the mini size (3 oz) and are $5 each or 3 for $10.

I did indeed pick up all six. It was kinda funny as I was willy nilly tossing them in my bag without smelling them in order to escape the aggressive SA that was following me around. Those BBW SA chicks are scary! You need to go into those stores with your fighting gear in place because those people will take you DOWN!

Let’s take a peek at Black Candy Apple and see if it was worth the trouble.

Black Candy Apple is a blend of juicy apple, caramelized sugar and irresistible vanilla. You’d think those notes would go brilliantly together but I personally find the “black” in the title is exactly what the scent is all about. This is darker and richer than I personally like.

The smell is a bit mysterious with a background of crunchy red apple and a prominent caramelized sugar note that when blended with the vanilla comes across richer and darker than what I like in a fragrance. I thought it might prove to smell foody/fruity but it has an edge that I can’t easily describe which I don’t really like.

If you like some of Bath and Body Works more darker blends like Midnight Pomegranate you’ll probably enjoy Black Candy Apple but don’t go into the purchase assuming this will be a sweet, fruity, candy-like scent because you’ll be disappointed.

Smelled it already?

Loved it?

Left it?

Do share!

This made me giggle! I thought the aggressive SAs might of been indigenous to my BBW! This sounds so yummy – hoping our BBW have these (they are often a little later than the U.S.) when I go shopping tomorrow!

    • the Muse

nope kimber they breed is spread across all stores LOL! ;-D Hope you get them soon dear!

  • Sarah S.

I L-O-V-E how this bottle looks! But seriously, BBW SA’s chase me down when I first go in and I kind of flee, but then when I actually have a question they’ve retreated off to someplace to chat with each other… it’s like a bad romance : /

    • the Muse

LOL SARAH OMG YES YES YES YES when you need them they aren’t around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Ruthless

Honestly, I went in to repurchase the room oil scents and the SA said at the checkout “Oh, only one thing?” Yes beech, only one thing….

  • Jackers

It sounds really interesting and I know what you mean by “darker”. I probably won’t dig this, but I’ll still go in to sniff. 😉 As for the SAs, yeah, they are aggressive in B&BW but they just cannot be anywhere near the Lush employees because NO ONE is in that league.

    • the Muse

jackers thankfully not TOO many issues with Lush but Body Shop and BBW phew those girls wanna jump me and nail me to the floor! BUY OUR PRODUCTS RAWRRRRRR!

  • Joanna

Thanks so much for reviewing all the B&BW stuff. It’s so exciting to get a sneak peek at the new Halloween collection.

I find the SA aggression only started about three years ago. Around the time we finally got a store in Canada.

My friends and I used to shop at B&BW in the US and always had a great experience. So we thought the pushiness was a new way of doing things in the Canadian stores. A few months later, we were back in the US and noticed the aggressive SAs there too.

Unfortunately, having pushy SAs must work for the company (increase in sales), otherwise they wouldn’t keep doing it. I love the products too much; otherwise I would boycott the store.

my pleasure Joanna (that’s my sis’s name) I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I actually do boycott it ;-D! I really can’t take it. I normally order online because I just feel so incredibly overwhelmed and even when I give a firm, “I’m fine, just looking” they STILL follow me around the store.

      It’s a very unpleasant shopping experience 🙁

I have two very close friends who are store managers for BBW, needless to say I am there A LOT. The staff think I am either someone from Corporate or a seceret shopper, etc….lol. Not to mention that I have been in retail for 30 years and have that “one step closer and it’s over” look. They are mortified. LOL.

Sadly these days, it’s feast or famine, if they ignore us we are angry…”don’t they want my hard earned cash in THESE times/”. Or, “Leave me alone to shop your smothering me”. It’s tough for them too. Se la vie, their stuff is like heroine and I am hopelessly addicted.

very true wendy very true…kinda like when we bitch about the heat in the summer and turn around and bitch around it in the winter..we are just never happy ;D

  • LINDARRAGNAR

Ohh that description reminded me muse of one of the easiest and best deserts I can make. LOL I take two appels cut them up put some brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon on them and let them sit for a bit to combine!! Then I put it into an aluminum foil pouch on the grill for 10 minuets and they are so good! Especially with vanilla ice cream!! (you can tell I just woke up and is hungry)

I am sad that the black part of the lotion ruined it!! 🙁

    • the Muse

oh nom linda! I didn’t eat brekkie or lunch and that sounds awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mmmm I wasn’t too into all that darkness :-/

  • Kayla

Ugh I’m so glad I don’t work for that company before. Part of the reason I quit was because I could not stand having to jump down customers’ throats! I will admit, there are people that absolutely LOVE it and I did enjoy helping those people, but gaahhh I felt so fake when I worked for BBW! It’s funny too because in the training videos, they praise themselves on the “experience” and how we male it the “perfect” shopping experience…. Uh, no. Haha!

Honestly, I thought it smelled really good. My friend picked me up a bottle as a Christmas present and I fell in love with it. I’m actually kinda sad that i’m running out of it. Though, you also mentioned the midnight pomegranate and I did check it out..not as good as I’d hoped, it was too strong. I absolutely loved black candy apple though.
