Chanel Recourbe Cils de Chanel Precious Eyelash Curler Review

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet.”

Indeed, fair Juliet, what’s in a name? Obviously alot of emphasis is placed on brand names. Slap Chanel’s name across an eyelash curler and instantly it becomes something we all covet and must own.

The new Chanel Recourbe Cils de Chanel Precious Eyelash Curler became an instant obsession for me when it released in Asia earlier this year. I’ve been sitting on it for a while as I was unsure when the actual North America release would be, I suspected Holiday 2011. It appears we don’t have to wait as far away as Holiday as Chanel gifts us with their eyelash curler for the Fall season.

Do you need it?

Not really.

No one is going to take a look at your lashes, gasp, and ask “OMG, What Eyelash Curler did you use?” Only you know what curler you used. Heck, chances are you’ll the question of what mascara you used before anyone would question your curler of choice right?

So really, it’s all a matter of what you personally prefer using on your lashes prior to your mascara.

Now associating Chanel with makeup you’d think such superior excellence would trickle down the line to their beauty tools and in fact, that would be the case with the Recourbe Cils de Chanel Precious Eyelash Curler. It’s fabulous. Not only is it an elegance piece of beauty equipment that you’ll proudly use daily but it also gets the job of curling lashes done quickly, easily, and pinch-free.

However….

The price tag is what’s in the name here.

I’m a huge fan of Shu’s legendary, cult favorite curler and if you already happily use it you really have no reason to indulge in Chanel’s frilly version that costs considerably more. I find the two curlers, compared, are identical pieces of equipment outside of the fact that Shu’s normally comes in silver (sometimes gold during a LE run) and Chanel’s comes in black. I also noticed that the Chanel Lash Pad is more dense than Shu’s version. Performance wise I think both curlers perform equally as great as I get beautifully longer lashes in a single squeeze minus any pinching or pain. The curler fits the contour of my eye beautifully and should work on many eye types without issue. The handles and length of the curler are identical to Shu’s version so if you close your eyes mix the two curlers around, choose one, and use it you’ll never be able to tell which you used simply by starting at your lashes after use….there isn’t alot of differences here.

Now Shu will set you back $19 and includes one pad versus Chanel’s version which is $34 and includes three pads, Sadly, Chanel’s version is available for a limited time so once you run through those lash pads I am doubtful you’ll be able to find them again. Of course, you can easily purchase pads from another curler however I always find the lash pads are just as important as the design of the actual curler and some can be a little too hard, too soft, etc…..in this case both Shu and Chanel’s version are just right kinda like that porridge that Goldilocks downed that faithful day in the Three Bear’s Cabin.

Chanel fans will easily want to own this however, those who are true to Shu and a bit more frugal will probably find it easy to just say no because after all, in the end, no one but you knows the brand that is curling your lashes.

The Chanel Recourbe Cils de Chanel Precious Eyelash Curler is available now, for a limited time, at www.chanel.com

I purchased mine from Asia and the price, for those abroad, is pretty much on par with USD retail.

Will you be indulging?

Oh, yeah! This is on its way to me as we speak. No one may know what curler I used, but using it to curl my eyelashes will give me my own secret pleasure, and that’s worth the price, right? 🙂

I love anything Chanel, but they’re charging that much just because their name is on it. Once you put Chanel on anything, the price goes through the roof.

I just opened mine 10 minutes ago and did a happy dance, sat down to the computer and saw your review! I don’t have a Shu Uemura curler, so had no qualms picking up this beauty. I have a Kevyn Aucoin curler that I like, but find the shape of the curler to be a little difficult to manage for my smaller eyes. The Chanel eyelash curler is perfect, I can get all lashes in one squeeze! It will carry a special place in my makeup bag!!

yay Jill! Happy to hear it! Do you like it about the same or more than your Shu? Curious minds!

ok ok I HAVE to have this. I will be picking it up soon. The ud thing didn’t work for me and it’s Chanel. Its lovely and it sounds like it will work fine so yes I will spend a million times what I should to have a Chanel lash curler.

I know i am a little late on this XD but don’t mind me. I just picked this curler from my nearest chanel cosmetic store two days ago. Since i have both the Shu Uemura curler and this, i do think the Chanel curler managed to reach to the inner most lashes (the ones near the ducts) which i usually can’t with my Uemura curler, however, i do find that the Chanel curled lashes does not last as long as the Uemura ones.

I have a bit of a Chanel habit – so saw this and immediately wanted one. Problem is, have never had an eyelash curler before. How do you use these things? They kinda look like a surgeon’s instrument. Also, do you need to use these with chanel mascara. I could use pointers on this as well.

I have been using the Shu Uemura and I love it, unfortunately they have discontinued its sales in the US and I can’t find replacement pads anywhere :'( Upon discovering this information, I was lead to the Recourbe Cils de Chanel. I was glad to find your review comparing these two, it was also good to know it comes with extra pads. It is a bit on the pricier side but I’m willing to pay if it’s worth it, can you recommend any other curlers comparable to the Shu?

    Thanks!
