Nuance Salma Hayek Color Vibrance Lipstick Review, Swatches, Photos

If you told me a few months ago I’d be raving a celebrity makeup brand I’d have called you a liar.

But…

It’s true.

The verdict is out and so far the new Nuance by Salma Hayek Collection is a go. Whoa! Likey this stuff alot. Anyone try?

Thoughts so far?

Do share!

I picked up two of the Color Vibrance Lipsticks thanks to the awesome CVS BOGO offer going on at the moment (Buy One, Get One Free) and I like them, alot. That’s saying something about drugstore lipsticks as I always have issues with lippies from my local drugstore.

Check it!

A creamy color leaves lips softer, smoother and fuller with Vitamin E nourishment and moisture-lock protection.

Somehow, someway, Salma created a drugstore lipstick that I’m proud to own. These lippies are $9.99 each but with the BOGO offer I was able to get two at that price which breaks them down to $5 each but I’d honestly pay the $10 without a rant since the formula is simply that good.

These come in basic black, plastic packaging with a floral motif. I’m not that impressed with the packaging but I can overlook it since the formula is where the quality is at. Formula wise the lipsticks have a creamy, soft feel that’s highly moisturizing and leaves behind a nice sheen of color on lips. They are highly pigmented lipsticks that wear very long without fading or migrating, color stays true and strong as the day progresses and with a little gloss on top (not necessary since the finish has a high shiny sheen) they truly pop. The formula proves impressive for me for a number of reasons one of which is the fact that color is pigmented yet lightweight and comfortable to wear without being to heavy or suffocating on my lips. Secondly, I find they remain hydrating as I wear them so my lips are smooth and soft without cracking or ending up with lipstick migrating around my mouth in a dry, unflattering way. The formula remains moist and smooth throughout my entire wear time. My lips aren’t overly dry but I imagine those with drier or chapped lips will really appreciate all this moisture.

I picked up two shades both of which are very warm, rich shades of red. My Favorite is a warm, rich shade of maroon red with a creamy finish and Plum Mauve is a rose-y plum mauve with a metallic sheen. Both shades are perfect picks for Fall.

The packaging is a little uneventful as it doesn’t have any good weight behind it. The plastic tubing cheapen the overall appearance but I’m actually happy they didn’t spend alot on packaging but put more of that money into the lipstick inside which is indeed a superior quality compared to other drugstore lipsticks. Fact, if you can get over the packaging and embrace the quality lipstick inside you’ll be golden.

Sadly, there are only nine shades to choose from but the brand is just starting up so we can hope we’ll see other shades as it progresses and moves further.

  • Anyone looking for a full color lipstick at the drugstore for under $10 bucks.
  • Anyone looking for a budget friendly lipstick with a comfortable wear and excellent color pay off.
  • Those wanting a hydrating, moisturizing lipstick that wears well on drier lips without fading or migrating.

  • Those who like alot of attention in their packaging (the packaging is ok but a little flimsy due to the plastic they embraced here).

Overall Nuance Color Vibrance Lipstick is a solid drugstore pick that has a whole hell of alot of quality to back it up. The formula is creamy, hydrating, and comfortable to wear plus the full color rich experience of the product is something to rave about as this little guy packs pigment in a major way. I had some minor ranting with the packaging as like any good junkie I put alot of emphasis on great packaging but in this case I can forgive the minor mishap in favor of the superior formula that just wears well.

Liked these.

Very worth your dollar.

I will have to try one. I noticed that they’re on sale at CVS this week, buy one, get one free.

    Dear Salma (or your marketers),

Please bring your brand to Canada.

    Love,
    me.

    I think I need to border-hop to a CVS soon…

  • dp

I initially bought 2 lipsticks at the CVS BOBO sale but was so impressed with the quality and formulation that I ended up going some glosses and eyeshadow duos. I like (and in some cases love) everything I bought. I wasn’t expecting much so boy was I surprised!

  • Freidra

I LOVE My Favorite, although I feel like a tool writing that name out. Also, the Rouge Bunny Rouge-esque packaging doesn’t bother me. Most packaging now, so long as it’s functional, doesn’t break it anymore. Of course, super-cute packaging always tips the scales to “make it”, but that’s between me and my pocketbook.

  • Kayla

These sound great, I can’t wait to pick a couple shades up. How’s the staying power? (forgive me if you mentioned this in the review somewhere… if so, it’s hiding from me!)

    • the Muse

kayla quite good although I wouldn’t eat with them on but otherwise about four hours without fading…!

  • Suzie

I love the one I picked up (coral). Probably my fave drugstore lipstick, I was a bit surprised. I feel like these are pretty great, glad to hear you like them too.

  • Sarah S.

The packaging is quite disappointing over the whole line, I agree. The tinted moisturizer and powder “foundation” are getting returned but I might get a couple of these lippies!

    • the Muse

not bad on the lip balm sarah…the rose one…cute pot….but not so sure on the rest…didn’t love the blush/bronzer packaging either, it stores badly because of the unusual shape. what was wrong with the TM? I didn’t get one my cvs didn’t have it..!

    • Claire

the little clear part at the end conceals a pot of lipstick. just pull out the tube housing the actual bullet.

  • katrosado

I really had high hopes for this because I was under the impression that the colors of the foundation might be geared more for the latina color range. (undertones). Meh. But I do like these lippies!

  • Majick

the lippies sound great and I’m sure I’ll be picking up a color to try.

  • LipstickChick

Have & LOVE Shimmering Nude, and plan on picking up two more, if I can, before this BOGO sale ends!

I’m also a fan of her blush/bronzer/highlighter trio, her e/s quad (FAB!), and her e/s duos … nothing’s been a dud for me yet, I”m thrilled to report!

I’m not one to buy celeb lines, but I’d heard good things from another blogger, and I was hooked! Hope you like all you try, too! 🙂

  • Majick

DId I say I was going to pick up one? um, FOUR! Ok, so it was like this… heh heh heh:

I thought I would try them and they had a BOGO but the second was 1/2 price not a twofer. Oh well moving on.

I picked up Shimmering Nude and Wine. (Ended up going back for Paprika and My Favorite) I have to say at first I was disappointed. BUT, I’m used to layering the lipstick. WIth this product a little goes a long way and the color is buildable. when I used the Nude it was too light – until I put less on. Just a swipe gives my lips a nice sheer nude look and used over other colors on the bottom lip it creates that nice pout look.

WINE = Clinique Black Honey dupe I’m not kidding. Black Honey may be just a hair more brownish and I mean a thin thin hair. This color is really pretty. Don’t let the dark color fool you.

MY FAVORITE: Muse, funny how colors show up dif on dif skintones. On you brick red (the reason for my purchase) and on me it’s almost a mauve. It’s nice but I haven’t used it enough to decide if it’s great or not. LOL It just enhances my lip color.

PAPRIKA: I would say this is a pretty true red. I thought it was going to lean to the orange side but it did not. It also did not turn pink on my lips which most blue-reds do. THis stays kind of a dk. red on me.

At first swipe I didn’t think I was going to like these but surprisingly I do.

    • the Muse

lol nice haul majick…! weird..when did you go? I got mine for bogo, buy 1 get 1 free. I have to grab up Wine! OMG how did I miss that?! ;-D I wish my lips were pigmented enough to be enhanced by a shade like my favorite damn girl you’re lucky!

same here, I was surprised…I expected the word and ended up loving them…!

      Thanks for the update!!!!!!

      • Majick

Yeah, Wine looks really dark and I expected it to be a dark burgundy wine but it’s so sheer I decided to swipe it next to Black Honey. I can tell the difference but I bet there are many who would not be able to tell.

My Favorite is darker than my natural lip but it’s really a neutral on me. I’ll have to mess with it a little more and see. I may have just been too quick to judge since I bought it this morning at CVS. I really wanted to wear the red so I only had it on for a split second.

Yeah, my CVS is a rip huh? I got one for $10.49 and the second for 1/2 off. WISH it was a real twofer, now that would have been a real score.

  • Liz

I am LOVING the Color Vibrance Lipstick! I just bought my third one today as part of CVS’s Buy $20 Get $10 Extra Bucks. Normally I roll my eyes at celebrity-branded products, but so far I’m loving everything I’ve tried from this line. 🙂

  • Sara

I might have rolled in to CVS last night to grab two more of these guys. This now brings me up to four: My Favorite (coincidentally, is my favorite and very close to my natural lip color – when it hasn’t gone corpsey in the cold), Dusty Rose, Paprika, and Wine. I *lurve* the softness of them all and build-ability. I find Paprika to be the least moisturizing of the four, probably because it’s jam-packed with pigment. The other three tend to go on a wee bit sheer on the first swipe, whereas Paprika is all *bam!* right up front.

All the nice things about them are warranted and eventually I’ll probably have them all – pending wearability with my skin tone.

So…yeah, thanks, Muse. Without your reviews on these guys I probably wouldn’t have looked twice, thinking they were just some cheap celebrity-backed line. And I actually like the packaging. Sure it’s not super slick or anything but it’s not crap either. Basic black in a rounded-retangular shape is never a bad choice. I actually returned a revlon lipstick because I hated the packaging…it just felt uber cheap. But I only own two “nice” lipsticks so far and they’re not exactly high-end either.

  • jerseygrrrl78

Just got these in Terracotta and Plum Mauve. Love the creamy texture and color payoff on these. Plum Mauve was an especially pretty and unique color. Quite a nice little drug store find!

  • Michelle

Muse, is it me or does the first swatch kinda remind you of the Revlon lipbutter color in Fig Jam (just a hint…not a dead match *lol*)? BTW, does these lipstick have particular lipstick name or number? Cause that first swatch is calling me!!!!! Should I make a run for CVS, I want to purchase the correct one!! 😉

    • the Muse

mmm not really michelle…fig jam has more vibrancy to it. the names are located right in the review Michelle Hope this helps.

  • Glory

I was wondering if these lipsticks have any scent to them at all.

  • Claire

The cool thing about this is you can pull the end off (remove the cap, and pull out the tube containing the actual bullet) and inside there is a bunch of lipstick!
