Physicians Formula Raises Its Prices, But Consoles Us with Buy 1, Get 1 Free Sets

Physicians Formula raised its prices….

In a major way, but don’t worry they’ll give you one product free!

Jump!

I was in CVS recently and noticed a display of Physicians Formula that contained dual packs of their popular Happy Booster products as well as their Mineral Glow Pearls. Each duo was a full size of either Happy Booster Blush and Bronzer or Mineral Glow Pearls and Mineral Glow Blush.

I hurried to take my camera out and snap a pic so I could tell you about it just in case anyone doesn’t already own the products and wanted to get in on the Buy 1, Get 1 Free offer but before I could take the picture my eyes landed on the $14.99 price tag. And than the light bulb went off and I thought…”ohhhh, at that price we are actually really paying for both.” I couldn’t recall the price I paid for either of my products so I headed over to the PF display to compare and my eyeballs near popped out of my head. ALL Physicians Powders are now marked (at CVS) a whooping $14.99 versus last year’s price of $11.95 and prior to this $8.99-$9.99 (remember those prices?).

Don’t get me wrong the BOGO offer dual pack is now indeed a good deal as that’s $7.50 per powder but damnyummmmmmm $14.99? You can a MAC Blush for that price. I was shocked the price went up so much in a mere year. In my photos below I took a picture of each pack front and back so you could see what was inside.

Anyway, the dual packs are priced at $14.99 for two full size powders plus CVS has a Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off deal this week so if you don’t already own these now would be a good time to partake particularly with that price hijack.

I’ve noticed them creeping up, and it’s honestly kept me away from the brand. At some of these prices, I’d rather spend a few more and go for the other brands!

  • Sabrinna

wow 15 bucks? my jaw just dropped. i really liked their blushes (i got them when theyre were on 6$ off sale on cvs and used a 5$ off coupon = i got them for free), but i dont think with the price hike ill buy it again 🙁 i might just save up on other HE blushes. Thanks for letting me know Muse!

  • Tamara F

Still cheaper than buying here in Canada where the Happy Booster blushes retail for $21.99 🙁 Hope that doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing an increase here as well!

  • eight

lol, they’re already $15-$20 here in Canada. Damn cross-the-border markups! My only consolation is we get the Shiseido face cotton a couple bucks less than you guys 😛

Still sucks though. Hope they don’t jump up in price more over here :/

    • the Muse

eight if we see the price jack I imagine you guys will too and you’re already paying skyrocket prices!

  • Bianca

I’m gonna check these out! Hopefully tonight 🙂 they’re a bit expensive but they don’t have all the ingredients that I’m allergic to in MAC blushes!

  • LINDARRAGNAR

I’ve never liked physicians formula It is too expensive for what it is! Just like you said its almost as much as mac!! But gotta say bogo is really nice!!

  • Tina

On the other hand, still much much cheaper than Canada! We used to pay $19.99 or $20.99 before the price hike. And that just for 1 of them!

  • Sara

Meh. I like Physician’s Formula, I does, but I rarely purchase them. Mostly on account of the shades being way off from my own skin, and the products themselves just aren’t appealing to me.

With the exception of the ‘dorables heart blushes (got both) and translucent powder, the mineral glow powder, and the new liquid liners. But even then I have qualms with the liquid liner on account of it being *impossible* to go over the line since it’s not a “one and done” kind of thing. And I can’t actually wear one of the blushes because it accentuates my red spots (not the blush’s fault). Also I had to return the eyeliners that came in the three pack (released the same time as the liquid liners) because they were shite.

The price hike won’t affect me too much because I wait for crazy awesome sales on PF anyway. Crazy sales + coupons + extra bucks = the only time I purchase drugstore makeup. :p

What’s your favorite PF product, Muse?

    • the Muse

mmm I dunno sara I have a few ;-D I like the new range of primers quite a bit, enjoy the mineral glow blush, love the mosaic powder, that’s hg…def enjoy a few ;-D

      • Sara

Primers, eh? I think I’ve missed those in the PF section. Might have to give it a look some time.

This price and package change might explain why my CVSs always seem to have gaps in stock. I’ve never actually seen the mineral glow blushes in a store yet….

        • the Muse

reviewed them a bit ago sara 🙂 look back in the archives, liked ’em!

  • Julianne

I just kind of feel like Physician’s Formula is starting to rip us off, lately. They have a lot of potential, but I don’t feel like the price tag they’ve put on things lately is completely justified. Sad face.

  • Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex

I like Physicians Formula products a lot, but the price hike is too much. I saw a $14.99 duo yesterday that had a bronzer and 2 of the cream eyeliners–not even two full sized products. I’ll probably continue to buy the cream eyeliner trios, especially on sale, because even at $14.99, you get three decently sized quality liners AND a good brush.

  • mon

Sadly, this isn’t surprising to me since I was always more surprised that your PF prices were always lower than the ones in Boston. I was kinda ready to brace myself for prices like $17.99 when I read your title so I dunno if I should be happy or sad about the current prices 😛

  • Gabrielle

In Canada one of those blushes cost about 17.99, I have never tried PF because products can go up to 25 dollars. As you stated in your post I can get department store products for those prices.

  • Kayla

Wow, that is absolutely insane for drugstore! I’ve never really tried any of their products, are they good? I’ve only used the organic wear pressed powder and I hated the texture of it.

  • Maggie

Actually, a regular MAC blush is 19.50 these days 😛 But still, $15 for drugstore is pretty bananas!

  • Felicia

Have the prices gone up at other places? I almost NEVER shop at CVS for makeup unless I have a coupon, they have a super sale, or if it is an emergency. Their prices are always way too high.

    • the Muse

felicia on PF’s website they are marked as $13.95 but haven’t checked other drugstores yet so yes, about a $2 hike from last year’s $11.95.

  • Isabella

PF has been getting expensive for a long time, compared to the other drug store lines,

some of them are pricing themselves out of their niche, dont you think so

  • Wendy

Their stuff has always been expensive to me for drugstore products… I stocked up when I found a $5 off coupon plus 50% off when CVS was doing that, as the cashier let me use it on each item with the 50% off. I got stuff for less than $3! I want some of the pop eyeshadows but I’m gonna wait for another sale… $14.99 is ridiculous imo =/

  • Sarah

This was once my HG powder…loved it! For a few extra bucks I’d rather venture to Sephora or a MAC counter.

  • kiwikiwidragon

i am on the fence about the face powders, blushes are awesome. Eye liners in the pots and the new ones are HG for me. For quite a while, their classic skin care was all i could use. Although Essence has some bad ass gel liners for 3.49 at Ulta. I understand where you are coming from. price increases suck. I bought chips from publix today and what was 3.99 is now 4.29! For potato chips! Guess that’s how they keep you from indulging. lol

  • MissCherryPi

Thanks for this post. I thought I was going crazy on Sunday when the organic wear pressed powder rang up for $15.49 (Duane Reade NYC). I put it back. It’s a good product, but that is much too expensive.
