Smashbox has a thing for pairing up shades to suit your eye color and skin tone this season. First their new Master Class Customs Color Sets which are shades suited to three main skin tones and now their new Photo Op Eye Enhancing Palette.

Each six piece shadow is set up for creating a soft look for day use (top trio) and a smoky look for night use (bottom trio). Each palette also features a QR code which you can scan on your phone to access get the look videos (Smashbox includes these on many of their products which I find very helpful).

The palettes are exclusive to Sephora and $42 each.

I will say OMG I hate having brands make colors for certain eye colors…! I’m of the mentality that anyone can wear anything shade they want…! It’s my pet peeve giving me a selection of colors “suitable” for my brown eyes but overall the palettes do look nice. Might have a swatch and a play next trip to Sephora.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Yay! I’m not the only person who goes crazy when I hear about these “Eye color specific palettes.” Grrr they make me so angry…

    1. A lot of people don’t fall into the Green/Hazel/Blue/Brown categories. For example my eyes are either dark, dark blue, green, or grey, depending on the weather, what I’m wearing, and a whole host of other factors that I don’t understand, LOL. When there’s a palette for “Variable shades of blue/green/grey” then maybeee I’ll try it. Maybe.

    2. Despite that, I’m often drawn to colors that are (supposedly) for hazel/brown eyes (and colors that are for warm skin tones, despite being cool as can be, but that’s another rant :P). If I wanna wear purples and greens on my eyes, I will. Ha.

LOL, sorry for the mini-rant, but I think you bring up an important topic :P!

My pet peeve is Smashbox continuing to offer things for blue, brown, & hazel eyes. I have green eyes & I always think what the heck, what’s wrong with green??! End of rant.

I agree with you, but still there are certain colors that suit certain eyecolors better than others. So I think it’s a bit of a help for those who aren’t that experienced in makeup and doesn’t know what’ll suit them.

Is anyone else noticing that the brown eye palette actually seems to just have two rows of dramatic colors? If that top row is supposed to be a soft eye look, then I just don’t get it… how can you make a soft eye look with deep burgundy and dark brown! Lol!

  • Wateryhands

Wow, a palette for blue eyes that doesn’t feature blue eyeshadow? I’m shocked. I think this is the very first one I’ve seen that’s actually made up with colors I think flatter my eyes!

I have the Master’s Class Ultimate Eyes for blue eyes set and I looove the quad that came with it. (I used the set for my wedding makeup!)

The palette for blue eyes here is kind of meh. I’d rather get the hazel eyes one.

    • Jennifer

Agreed. Of all of these, Hazel is the one that I would definitely get…

  • Sarah

What about us green eyed girls. My mom’s eyes are grass green and mine are forest green- definitely not hazel – what do I use? *cry*

  • Majick

I have so much Smashbox I feel that I can pass on these. (thank GAWD!)

  • Allison

Another green eyed girl looking for a green eye palette lol oh well
