Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer Review, Swatches, Photos

There are a few cult favorite concealers out there. One’s that are spoken about in whispers, put on a pedestal and worshiped. In my experience, most times, they end up such a fail.

All that hype, all that talk, all those incredible reviews…what am I missing?

Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer is one of those long fabled, HG (holy grail) concealers that everyone raves on and on about…

What do I think about?

Jump!

A full coverage concealer for concealing dark circles, bags, and other woe.

To some extent Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer could be dubbed all that and a bag of chips. It’s a full coverage concealer that literally takes the term “full” to new levels. This one brings plenty of coverage and pigmentation to the table so if you have issues to hide, well, this is going to do the hiding.

Severe dark circles? No problem! Major zit on your nose? Not an issue. This is possibly the most pigmented concealer I own and this would be coming from a girl who has some major players in her arsenal such as Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer and MUFE Full Coverage. If you’re looking for full on concealing action, look no further.

The hype, excitement, and general ho-haw surround Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer is true to some extent but it has some issues here and there you have to work through. The formula is an emollient texture much like a grease paint. It’s not creamy so put that out of your head right away…it is a pretty loose formula, not necessarily watery but not too thick either, right in the middle somewhere. I’m not a huge fan of emollient concealers, they feel greasy to me and somewhat like paint. I do prefer creamy ones which feel more hydrating however Amazing Concealer is do-able and not too uncomfortable to wear but…

You need time and patience.

It will cake, it will crease, and it will look like you have concealer on if you don’t take a little time and patience to apply it correctly. I find a rush job will result in bad creasing action and my eyes will look all kinds of unnatural and less than pretty if I do not take time out to apply this correctly.

Remember..

A little tiny dab goes a very long way. I’d apply on the back of my arm or hand first and dip in with your brush and than apply where needed is the best application method. You want to apply a sheer layer first and SLOWLY build up if necessary. Use a brush when possible and pat into place. Please be sure to pat as much as possible because it can and will look like you have concealer on if you don’t spend time blending this out plus you’ll end up with a whole lot of creasing if you don’t.

  • Those with severe dark circles (this can hide anything you throw at it).
  • Those who have tired, baggy eyes.
  • Those with in need of minor spot coverage on their face (don’t go crazy applying this everywhere on your face but dotting on small places you need it will help conceal problems).

  • Those with drier eyes (you can use it without issue but just be sure you prime properly prior to use and you’re working on a smooth, hydrated area otherwise it will crease).
  • Older eyes with alot of finer lines or wrinkles (it’s not the best option for you).
  • Those who prefer more creamier, hydrating concealers.

I can understand why Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer gets so many raves. I liked it. It probably won’t replace some of my other favorite concealers but it is a most excellent choice for when I really need to conceal my tired, baggy eyes as it does a great job of waking the area up and making me look refreshed and flawless. It proves a little difficult to work with and it does need a little helping hand to get it into place correctly but overall, it does exactly what it says it will and conceals many major problems with a very small amount…!

I wanna say Muse Approval for purchase on this one but just prepared to spend a little time with application as you’re bound to hate this if you end up applying it incorrectly.

My dry skin hated this stuff, I tried to make it work so many times but it was always just really cakey and obvious lol. Thank goodness for Sephora returns! The Tarte Amazonian Clay concealer works much better for me. I can see how people with skin that’s not as dry as mine (basically everybody lol) would love this stuff though, it really is super-pigmented.

    • the Muse

I have really dry under eyes cait but with CAREFUL application I got it working a ok ;-D!

Hey Muse, how does this compare to Tarte’s Maracuja Concealer? That one is pretty pigmented and I love it. But you know how it is, always wondering if the grass is greener lol.

    • the Muse

lol I hear ya girl! It’s actually a similar formula however it’s a bit more pigmented, not as thick, and not as emollient as tarte’s version. I actually didn’t like Maracuja Concealer for some reason..just made me look tired and creased badly but this I didn’t have a prob with but I will say they are very close to the same formula.

$28 for this tube or bigger ones are $42 pilar but best purchase on ulta as you can use coupons at ulta for amazing cosmetics 🙂

I have the Tarte concealer at home and the IT Cosmetics concealer as well. I’m just starting to try both. So far the Tarte is much easier to blend and work with than the IT which is really thick and, like Muse said about the Amazing Cosmetics one (which I have never tried), takes a lot of patience and time blending. Personally, that is a pain to me. I don’t have time to fuss with concealer in the mornings. So I’m going to use the Tarte for my undereyes and the IT for spot concealing. Ironic, isn’t it. I’m not using the IT Bye Bye UnderEyes for my underyes!

    • the Muse

I haven’t it susan but I imagine it is much like amazing’s version! 🙂 I feel like I have to take alot of time with the tarte, I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would, bit too thick and emollient for me, kinda tires out my eyes le sigh..really wanted to love it!

but yup totes know what you mean, it’s kinda a pain to waste time with concealer in the AM I just want to pat and go. Not spend alot of time applying..however no denying this really erases dark circles and general woe under my eyes ;D!

I use a BB cream from Missha all over and then a bit of Tarte’s concealer, and I also have really dry skin. I sort of paint on the concealer thinly under my eyes then tap it in with my finger and a flat top brush to sort of press it into my cheeks if my skin’s a bit redder than usual then set with Tarte’s pore-minimizing powder. I don’t get any creasing at all. I even mist my face with rosewater lightly after pressing in the powder for some extra moisture.

It’s not perfect, but honestly, my skin will never look perfect, so I don’t bother to layer more on so it never looks cakey. I think I’m mostly done with mineral powder foundation now, my skin looks so much better than it used to with this combo.

So glad to hear the love for that concealer from you ladies!

I love this stuff! What are some of your fave concealers that you recommend though? I wouldn’t be opposed to trying new things!

  • Mandy

Hm so would what’s the verdict for a showdown between bobbi brown and amazing concaeler?

  • Jamie

I’m happy to see you reviewed this one! I love this concealer because I have really awful dark circles. A lot of eye concealers will oxidise on me, which darkens my circles, but this doesn’t. You really have to make sure you have a moisturising eye cream on first, though, because this product is terribly drying. Like you mentioned, it is a bit more work, but I find the end result totally worth it. This is one of the first things I apply in the mornings, and when I’m done with the rest of my makeup, I’ll smooth out any lines that may have formed and then lightly powder with something like Powderflage or Bobby Brown’s powder that comes with concealer and I’m good to go.

    • the Muse

yay so glad you’re enjoying this Jamie! It really is a cure all for terribly dark circles!

  • Ana

I got the smaller size of this forever ago! I have a lot of discolorations to conceal on my face, but usually just go for a full coverage foundation that lets me skip the concealer step. For this reason, I haven’t used this very often and still have a good amount left (especially considering you just need a few pin sized drops to cover large areas!) I remember one of the girls at ULTA recommended it to me as a great, long-wearing, waterproof concealer for the face. I felt guilty paying so much for the tiny tube, but now I can see that it was worth it 🙂

  • Jasmine

I good dupe for this is the Hard Candy Heavy Duty Concealer. In fact, I think it’s better than the Amazing Concealer. 🙂

    • Adrienne

Hard candy is good when you can’t get to Ulta or whatnot and are in Walmart but less color choices

  • Verity

I’m searching for a new concealer for my awful under eye circles. I swear NOTHING covers them. I’m currently using the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer which conceals reasonably well, but after a while I just feel it goes really gross under my eye. It just kinda looks a bit funky, and my under eye feels like it needs something a more refreshing and brightening.

Do you think this would be a good replacement or does this go a bit gross and tired looking after a while too?

    • Jess

I have really bad dark circles under my eyes due to thin skin and dark veins – always have had this issue. I searched for years for something that would actually hide the vein, not just thinly veil it. I’ve been using amazing for almost 10 years now and it is still my go-to concealer. The $40 tube lasts 6+ months bc you only need a tiny bit. It is creamy enough to layer on delicate under eye skin. (I’ve found that anything else that actually hides is too dry of a formula, and anything thinner doesn’t hide). For the record I’ve used MUFE, yves st laurent, MAC, Clinique, Laura mercier, benefit, bare minerals,…

This does need refreshing after an 8 hour work day but it layers on top of it just fine. I think pickin the right color is key, though, so go try it out if you can.

  • Tan

I have heavy pigmentation on my face. In between Cleu De Peau and Amazing Cosmetics, which one do you think has the best coverage and lasting effect? Sadly MUFE full cover concealer didn’t work for me as it will leave a cakey look right after I pad on my setting powder.
