Guerlain Vol de Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder Review, Swatches, Photos

Today I cry tears of joy.

I hold in my hand the new Guerlain Vol de Nuit Shimmer Powder for Holiday 2011 (no not Voldemort).

I have many a renditions of Guerlain Holiday Shimmer Powders that I’ve purchased over the years and each proves to be unique and special to my collection however the Vol de Nuit Shimmer Powder, interestingly enough, has come full circle.

This new limited edition powder is the traditional shimmer powder release from Guerlain. Guerlain always does an incredibly beautiful powder each Holiday season but Vol de Nuit is a little bit different and special as it combines not only the sparkle of a beautiful powder but also sports a subtle fragrance.

The powder is scented with green, woody notes, a bit of vanilla, and the soft, delicate floral note of iris. I think collectors will be quite interested in the fact that the powder has a mysterious, rich fragrance versus Guerlain’s customary violet scent. The fragrance is actually strong enough to linger on skin so anyone close enough to you will be able to smell it on your skin.

Of course, you’re not limited to using this on your skin….face, body, hair…wherever you want a little festive Holiday sparkle!

Obviously the idea of a sparkling powder makes us all sigh in pleasure but the packaging, for true beauty junkies is just as important. Guerlain went with a square bottle this year that’s comprised of glass with a gold metal face plate. The green-blue bottle has both a modern and vintage feel. It’s a little edge-y for Guerlain but reeks of sophisticated beauty.

The actual power inside is a delicate shade of shimmering pink. The sparkle is just enough to adorn face, body, or hair without looking too overly done or giving that “off to a club” look.

Guerlain Vol de Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder is an elegant piece of Holiday that will be one for the collector’s out there. At $87 this type of elegance doesn’t come cheap but I’ve always had a very special place in my heart for Guerlain’s Holiday Powders and tend to overlook the price.

Will you be hauling anything from Guerlain Holiday 2011 when it launches in October?

Which pieces?

How about the Shimmer Powder?

Man, this is gorgeous! Want want… wish I had $$ but I lost it all in Vegas 😉 But you know I’d buy this anyway if it did in fact say “Vol de Morte” hehehe

    • the Muse

  • Tammie

Unfortunately I am not big into sparkle so I’ll have to pass even though I am in lust with the bottle 😐

ugh it’s so sexy but so expensive!

Btw Muse, are you still accepting stash pics? That would give me a reason to get off my ass and do something today! hahaa

The packaging on that sparkle powder is to die for. I can just see it sitting on my vanity table.

Just got this. Had to have it, couldn’t believe they scented one this year with Vol de Nuit. It’s timeless and this is gorgeous. I have loads of shimmer powders and never really went for their holiday ones because of that. The scent in this one made it a must and done up in the original bottle type.

I want to go buy an antique vanity just to display it on. Despite my very numerous beautiful perfume bottles, I have yet to get the antique vanity. They sit on an antique table though.

Wow wow wee wah! WAANT! Do you know where I can go smell this? Do any stores have this out for testing?

My family already hates that I put expensive cosmetics on my Christmas list so I’d hate to dislike the smell if I get it…

Gorgeous!!! I love, love, love the shimmer powder. I tried one of the PINK/Victoria’s Secret sparkle things where you flip it upside down and it comes out of the brush? It. went. everywhere. EVERYWHERE. I felt like the dang vampire in Twilight who can’t go in the sun, humiliating.
I need this right? Regardless of the price…right?

OH NOOOOOO!!!! I have two antique vanities and a vintage perfume bottle collection. I may have to get this – I don’t really wear sparkles much and have a ton from BE but this bottle is just captivating.

I did just win a $25 gift card from Sephora – I think I may be able to justify this if I wait until F&F. woo hoo

  • Blair

This is just beautiful! Also love the Voldemort puns in your post. ;D

I agree with you on the packaging – looks so sophisticated. <3

I have collected these for a couple of years now and every holiday season I try to get the whole collection. This year I have to calm it down a bit but I am still getting 3 pieces! This is one I will definitely add to my collection! That color for the bottle is my favorite color so that just encourages me even more!!! Can’t wait to get it in my hands!!!!!! Thanks for the images!
