Koji Japan Makeup Curving Eyelash Curler Review

I happen to be a member of the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler cult. Ya know, we believe that Shu’s Eyelash Curler is a gift from the makeup tool gods and that no one else has created a curler anywhere near on par with it. Another words, Shu’s Eyelash Curler is the end all eyelash curler…once you start using it, you’ll simply never need another eyelash curler in your life because it does the job and does it well.

Sadly, the downside is Shu has failed to evolve and still, to this day, does not offer lash pad refills. You’ll get plenty of people who proceed to recommend refilling it with another brand’s pad but people, the pad, is where the magic happens!

I’ve actually always believed that the pad is the key to an excellent eyelash curler. You can take any old lash curler insert a really good pad into it and instantly you’ll get amazing results as far as I am concerned. Take a crummy, dense pad and suddenly you’re getting rubbish results.

However, one eyelash curler does prove that it a combination of the design of the unit and the pad is the key to the ultimate lashes you’ve experienced.

Koji Japan Makeup Curving Eyelash Curler is a pure miracle to the lash curling world. Once you use it, you’ll want to write sonnets about its abilities.

Jump!

This is the ultimate in the eyelash curling world in my opinion. Shu does the job well for me and far be it from me to say otherwise but I’ve honestly gotten such crazy cool results from Koji Japan Makeup Curving Eyelash Curler, I think it’s safe to say, that yes, this is my HG (holy grail) Eyelash Curler of choice now.

The design is completely different from any curler I’ve used before as it has a slicker, longer body. The body of the curler has longer handles and has more of a straight line to it than a traditional curler. The cage also has a wider curve that fits the contour of my eye beautifully. I think the combination of the longer handles and longer, straighter cage allows for amazingly results. I find this grasps all my lashes perfectly and has the ability to pull them upwards and out for not only incredible length but also, somehow, someway it adds a bit of volume.

The pad is soft and cushy just like Shu’s but where I’d normally blame the pad on my gorgeous lashes, this time I’m blaming a combination of both the pad and interesting design of this curler.

I find that the curler handles fit comfortably in my hand, more so than other curlers. The size is necessarily double that of a regular curler but it is longer and straighter and I think the straighter body is what allows me to get super close to my lash line allowing for me to capture all my lashes which in turn offers incredible lenght.

Needless to say this one is a keeper. The slick body and soft, cushy pads give my lashes incredible length.

This one can easily take over any other lash curler you’re currently in love with.

Very recommended and Muse Approved for purchase.

If you haven’t had superior results from your eyelash curler allow Koji Japan Makeup Curving Eyelash Curler in your life and prepared to be amazed and delighted.

I got mine from AlphaBeautyUK for $19.95. It’s available as a limited edition set which includes a plastic holder for the curler and you can purchase refills for it.

One word, amazing!

I learnt recently it’s also key to replace the actual eyelash curler and not just the pads. That said, $20 to replace an eyelash curler is BANANAS. I thought they were supposed to last FOREVER?!
I like the LE Sonia Kashuk curler loads but since it’s LE, I’ll need to switch again next year.. probably to this one. Thanks Muse!

    • the Muse

I dunno seems crazy to have to that Ashley ya know? ugh! I love the Sonia one, supposedly that LE version is available as a regular version in her catalog, just silver I think! 🙂 My pleasure, try it, you’ll be HOOKED!

I have a Shu curler, and they *used* to sell replacement pads for it til a few years ago. When I asked at sephora for them, I got some cock and bull story about how when the pads wear out the “spring” in the thing is shot too, so it’s best to replace the whole thing… Um, WHAT friggin’ spring? Oh, that’s right…THERE ISN’T ONE!!!

jeebus, how dumb do they think we are?? Anyway, the shiseido pads fit it perfectly, thankyouverymuch, and I have laid in a small stockpile of those in case they get a case of stupid like shu did…

    • the Muse

Really? I’ve been using the curler for quite a while and never seen replacements for it, interesting. I find it absurd I have to buy a new curler after I’ve used the two pads 🙁

      • kimkats

It’s been a few years since they stopped making them (or at least selling them separately) so I just get the Shiseido ones and they’re just fine!

  • Libby

Ah! I am now tempted to try this eye curler out 😡 it sounds amazing and after buying a series of ones that don’t work (and then finding the sonia kashuk one based off your rec!) I’ve been wanting to buy the shu (and probably would’ve bought it if it was still sold at sephora).

Anyway, I wanted to say that online, the sonia kashuk le one at target is only $6+ with price cut!

Now I’m off to order this one…

I never even remember to use my eyelash curler, but if I had this one, I’m sure I’d remember to use it! You haven’t really reviewed any makeup/tools from Japan in awhile, so I was happy to see this.
Oh how I hope you will be doing some Japanese makeup hauls this holiday!

    • the Muse

sorry chel ;-D I’ve been swamped and have alot of backed up stuff to review but def will do holiday hauling ;-D I see many a coffret I want how about you?! My friend Mai is in Washington for the Holiday so I’m a little behind hauling lately as she normally does my cp work ;D!

  • BooBooNinja

Hi Isabella, you said that the curve of the Koji is wider. Does this mean that from a bird’s eye view, the Koji curve is shallower than that of the Shu?

I hope so… because I think this is why the Shiseido works better than the Shu for me. My eyes are “flatter”.

    • the Muse

Booboo straighter, not as curved as shu’s. It runs straight across almost with a very slight curve 😀

  • MereMakeupManiac

this does look promising! i wonder if it’s available here in Sasa…

Honestly, I hear so many over-the-top praises about Shu’s eyelash curler that it makes me want to NOT buy it for some reason. -____-; I actually have a Shiseido curler (and it gets similar raves) and while it is one of my better curlers, it’s not miraculous, contrary to claims. Also because I have a cheapie curler from an obscure local brand that actually gives me pretty lashes in two seconds. That said, I hate eyelash curlers and use self-curling mascaras on regular days, and they actually work on me.

This looks like an interesting eyelash curler, and I’ll be sure to pick this up when I go to Japan. (And maybe, just maybe, a Shu one as well, just to see what it’s really like.)

  • Stephanye

I have a Koji brand eyelash curler and I love it. It works so well with my eyes and it keeps the curl all day with my Fairydrops mascara. Thank you for this review.

  • Meikisis

Muse..you need to do a post about your HG Japanese products! Skincare and makeup please please! You got me hooked on Cure peeling gel and Majolica Majorca mascara! I need to know more products like those! 😉 thank you!

    • the Muse
