L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Review

I never learn when it comes to these L’Oreal Mascaras. They look so amazing in promo images and they sound like my dream come true…

But in the end, they almost always, end up a FAIL.

L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes another over priced rubbish mascara.

Jeepers.

Jump!

Waterproof fiber formula mascara to lift lashes and create a fuller look!

I was under the impression this was a tubing mascara…fiber=tube…but the formula is drier and does not contain tubes of any kind which is a good thing as I normally dislike fiber mascaras since I feel like I have a lash or two in my eyes when I wear them.

I like the drier formula since some drugstore mascaras are a bit too wet which results in a spidery look. Formula is lightweight as well and doesn’t make lashes stiff or crunchy. The applicator is a straight brush with a very slight curve that has a little give so you can pull lashes up and out with a little wriggle while you apply. I like the brush well enough since it manages to capture all my lashes in a single go. Although it’s straight it still manages to get a hold of all my lashes even the smaller ones in the inner corner of my eye.

Overall, it proves disappointing…although it gives decent length it makes my lashes stick out straight without an ounce of curl, volume is non existent here as well.

Supposedly it coats lashes with fiber but I didn’t notice tubes or fiber of any kind so don’t go into a purchase expecting a traditional tube mascara formula.

Surprising for me was the flaking I experienced as I have tried alot of mascaras in my day and I never had issues with flaking but within hours of wear I noticed it was flaking off and leaving trails of mascaras under my eyes.

  • No one!

  • Those wanting volume, length, and curl (delivers on length but it manages to create an unflattering stick straight lash look while doing nothing as far as volume and curl it doesn’t cut it either here).
  • Anyone with oily lids (it flakes on me and my eyes are drier so I imagine it’ll create smudge-y flakes if you’re oily).
  • Those wanting a traditional tubing mascara (this isn’t really a fiber mascara formula like I’ve ever tried before).

L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes is a one trick pony that promises to perform several functions that it never actually succeeds at. It may offer some very nice length but the end result is simply stick straight lashes that have no curl. As with most drugstore mascaras, this one promises great lashes and delivers rubbish results. The price of $9.99 is also absurd considering for a few more dollars you can get a higher end mascara that actually works.

Garbage as far as I’m concerned.

Don’t waste your money.

Wow, it barely made a difference to your lashes. I bought one of L’Oreal’s super volume (whatever it was called) mascaras and it was crap too. It came in a black tube and had one of those rubber applicators. The formula was so thick and wet and the applicator bristles were so sparse that my lashes stuck together and it looked so bad. Like this one, it too was overpriced crap.

    • the Muse

doesn’t surprise me barbara :-/ I’ve run across most all l’oreal mascaras having a craptastic formula…!

      • Ruthless

I just had to stop trying L’Oreal-some people swear by their mascara but every one I have tried flakes and irritates my eyes.

      • Kerry Lauder

Wow, I am surprised. I love this mascara, it’s my favorite, over high end ones too. I apply 2 coats of a regular mascara (it varies) then 2 coats of this. It doesn’t come out spidery on me, great volume & incredible length. But, everyone’s different, I love your page though, very helpful! :0)

  • Diana

I wish i would have waited for your review. I bought it and thought it was trash too. :/

  • Brooke Lehman

I agree, I hated it!! It just didn’t do anything for my lashes at all!

  • Crissylex

    Hi Muse,
I completely agree with you. L’oreal sucks big time.
I thought it would be similar to the regular voluminous but better.
Nope, sadly I was wrong. It weighs down your lashes so that
the curl you get after using your curler disappears. All you get is
    straight lashes without volume. Ugh…

    • the Muse

hey crissy, agreed…! it was pretty light for me but it ended up making my lashes stick straight out…not a flattering look at all :-/ and def not what I expected…I really never win with drugstore mascaras :-/ covergirl lashblast is another product I really do not get the hype over!

  • chanel

I’ve tried this mascara and I was pretty disappointed in it myself. I usually like l’real mascara but this one was too dry of a formula for me. I also wasn’t impressed with the results.

    • the Muse

i didn’t mind the dryness so much chanel but def didn’t see any grand results to brag about :/

  • cinthya

I didn’t like it either, big dissapointment, i need a mascara that gives my lashes volume, curl, any suggestions? oh i have almost no eyelashes,:)

  • Jenny

Wow, I’m surprised at all the negative reviews I’m reading about this mascara! For some reason, it actually works really well on my lashes…I get both volume and length, and I have the typical Asian lashes. Sorry to hear that so many people hate it though 🙁

  • Logan

I tried just the plain loreal voluminous lashes and it wasn’t too bad but omg did it have an awful smell. It smelled like old lady perfume (you know the kind, flowery like baby powder and really pungent). I tried a rimmel mascara too and it had the same smell but it wasn’t as bad. I Think it’s the ingredient it’s called something green. Anyone else find the fragrance really unpleasant? It’s not suppose to be scented but the ingredient lets off a scent. Even after I had it on for hours I still would get a whiff of it every now and then. It was really that strong :/

  • Blair

Saw a girl applying it on the bus today – didn’t make any difference to her lashes, in my opinion, and apparently she thought so too, as she whipped out a bright yellow tube of Maybelline after a while to fix it. A worthier choice, in my opinion, after reading this review. 🙂

  • Shana

I SO SO wish I had seen this review before I bought this last week!! I absolutely hate this stuff…did absolutely nothing for my lashes, and I agree with you it flaked like crazy on me.

  • Cara

Thanks for reviewing this! I bought the regular Voluminous because I had read that it is a close dupe of Benefit’s They’re Real. Not even close for me. Though it did thicken and lengthen my lashes a bit, it’s nowhere close to the results I got from They’re Real. Plus I got lift and curl from Benefit but nothin’ from Voluminous. I also found the Voluminous formula to be a little too “wet” for my liking. Though I dislike dishing out the extra $$ for They’re Real, until someone finds a cheaper dupe, I guess I’ll keep buying!

  • Poppy

sidenote Muse, get the holika holika magic pole one… i love it! it replaced majorlica as my HG!

    • the Muse

I actually have it Poppy but it got tossed to the bottom of the pile for some reason ;-D have to try it out!

  • Lori

I like this mascara for the first hour or two. Perfect balance of length and volume (Though I apply 2-3 coats of any mascara I use). I have normally curly lashes so I have no need for an eyelash curler, but this makes my lashes stick straight. It would be my new holy grail if it didn’t straighten my lashes =/

  • JoElla

I hate to hear how much everyone hates this. I love Volumous Carbon Black mascara and that is my HG of mascaras!

Maybe I am the lone weirdo here, because I cannot use any Maybelline mascara at all. I get it 3 inches from my eyes and they start to water and just become a hot mess.

  • JoJo

Glad I did not purchase it. By your photo the product is sure a crappy one. Thanks very helpful review 🙂

  • LaurieS

Thanks for saving me from buying yet another lousy mascara. I printed off a coupon for this yesterday but wasn’t able to get to RiteAid. I am so glad I read this first!

  • LouAnne

I can’t wear Maybelline either.. I was going to try this one reviewed but glad now I didn’t…
However, I will say that L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Waterproof is now my HG mascara after YEARS of buying high dollar mascaras… I love the brush cleaning system in the tube, love the brush and the formula wears like iron on me… no smudging, flaking or smearing on my very allergy prone, watery eyes… I have decent eye lashes so I don’t need a whole lot of volume or length so it almost gives me the effect of false eyelashes that look very natural…

  • Krystal

So, i just stumbled upon your website and I’m in love with it. I’ve bookmarked it. I’m so glad i read this review. I have seen this mascara in magazines and it’s been a “product to try” in some magazines. I like to see real people use it. Sorry you had to buy it to be disappointed but you helped me realized to steer clear of this. How horrible.

  • Maggie

Thanks so much Muse for reviewing this!

I actually read a positive review on this mascara and have had no luck finding it to try out (at CVS and Target). It looked amazing on the reviewer but now I see it may not be the case for everyone.

I was looking forward to trying it out too: mascara smudging is the bane of my existence and though fiber formulas are normally good at counteracting that for me–the fiber formula nearly always end up straightening my curled lashes. I was hoping this new L’Oreal one would solve my problem but I guess not. I will probably try it out anyway….

Would you happen to have a rec for a mascara that doesn’t smudge but holds curl?

  • SJG

Loreal mascara used to be so good back in the day – I don’t know what happened. A friend of mine swears by Voluminous but she also has a pretty elaborate ritual that goes with it.

  • Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex

Thanks for the honest review! I’d been thinking about buying this, but I’m glad I didn’t waste my money.

  • Heather Akin

Loreal Bare Natural mascara works wonderfully. It is a lengthening and volume formula in one and it works. I am forever buying the latest in mascara; Maybelline Grow Lucious was my favorite until now— love, love, love Bare Natural.

  • kaynicole

I was seriously dissapointed in this mascara. It was so clumpy and dry and worthless! Unfortunately I bought it before reading this because I wanted to review it. wah!

  • Dee

Loreal Voluminous has been my fave fore YEARS. after the first few clumps, it would really make my eyes POP!

  • Mary the Muse Militant

Hey Muse, this might go down in history as the ultimate dupe to the infamous Maybelline Great Lash !

  • Mishelle Flores

I bought this a few months ago and it to me it’s the ‘IT’ mascara, I love it!! It coats perfectly and leaves my lashes thick and long, which normally my lashes are non-existant… 🙂

  • Aubrey

It has worked very good on me, but what I did is, took a strong napkin took out the wand and wiped all of the excess goo or whatever u call it, and I just ran the wand through my lashes a few times and I had it on for like, 8 hours during school
Then I had a game that night and just did the same thing again, but I have naturally long lashes, but I’m sorry it didn’t work out on u guys
But I didn’t see any flaking, dryness, and it is great at being waterproof especially through that sweaty game, I wouldn’t say it’s my holy grail, but it does the job I need it to do!:)
