Lush Cosmetics Halloween Collection 2011

Happy Halloween Lushies!

This year, oddly enough, Lush introduced its Holiday 2011 Collection before its Halloween one.

Shrug…

No idea what those cheeky monkees at Lush are up to but here’s what’s on the horizon for our favorite spooky time of year.

Jump!

Lush Skullduggery

Skullduggery is an eerie but magical celebration for your bathtub. We used brightening and refreshing lime and neroli for the fragrance and olibanum (also known as frankincense resinoid) to help that citrusy smell stay on your skin until the witching hour and beyond.

Lime oil is a popular ingredient in remedies to combat congested skin, cellulite or simply to wake you up!

We use expensive neroli oil as it is one of the few essential oils to be scientifically proven to increase serotonin production in the brain – Arriba!

Olibanum resinoid, otherwise known as frankincense, has a woody, slightly fruity aroma and covers the skin with a thin, protective film, softening the skin. It is extremely effective on sore, cracked, de-hydrated skin.

Jack invented Calavera Bath Bomb last year for our Day of the Dead celebration; a very zesty number full of vibrant, bright colours to get you celebrating in the bath. He chose uplifting citrus oils for the fragrance, as they can help clear your head after a night of celebrating the dead (with one too many tequilas!)

Decorated skulls (or Calaveras) are iconic in Day of the Dead imagery – so this year, we took the concept of Jacks Bath Bomb last year and gave it a slightly spookier look. This ballistic is limited edition so get it while you can.

Lush Lady Catrina Soap

Lady Catrina is a masterpiece. Shaped like a fruity hat and decorated with flowers, theres a hauntingly beautiful quality to our purple soap. But the zesty fragrance of fruit pastilles and freshly cut limes will revive even Kirkmans walking dead, and Mexican agave nectar will soften your body to bring it back to life.

Theres organic agave nectar in Lady Catrina, which is derived from the agave plant (a sort of cactus). Agave is used as a vegan alternative to honey so this soap is vegan friendly.

It has the same uplifting fragrance as the Calavera and Calacas; lots of limey layering can be done.

Like all our soaps, it has the wonderful new palm-free soap base, which is not only environmentally friendly but also incredibly foamy.

Lady Catrina (or La Calavera Catrina) was an etching by José Guadalupe Posada that he made in the early twentieth century to parody that the rich and fashionable, despite their pretensions to importance, are just as susceptible to death as anyone else. Since then, Lady Catrina has become an iconic image for the Day of the Dead celebrations. History lesson over!

Lush Calacas Shower Jelly

Halloween, skeletons and the Day of the Dead: it all fits together perfectly like a fun and slightly macabre jigsaw! Calacas is a wobbly special for October; a shower jelly in the shape of a skull, with a lime and jelly bean scent that will get your lovely bones dancing, however dreary the autumn days are.

Make sure you freeze your Calacas jellies. They hold their shape really well and make for a very invigorating shower experience!

The lime fragrance will be perfect for waking you up in the morning (or even when youve got a hangover!)

Aloe vera gel is fantastic for cooling sore and irritated skin. Use this one when your skin is feeling and looking red and in need of calming.

Another of the iconic images used in the Day of the Dead celebrations are sugar skulls. You see them everywhere in Mexico around November time; all painted, flowery and truly beautiful. We took inspiration for the mould for our jellies from these and made them into bright, colourful neon wobblers to chill and use in the shower. Calaca means ‘skeleton in Spanish.

NA will be getting these goodies later today and in store 10/17 however Skullduggery is exclusive to the UK. Retro products will also be introduced from what I understand from Halloween past including Ghost Shower Gel.

If you can’t wait, you can happily order now from Lush UK.

My hopes and dreams for Calacas Shower Gel are officially crushed…

SNIFF!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I’ve never really tried a shower jelly before. Lime scent + Aloe Vera sounds awesome 😀

I love Calacas, it smells like green fruit pastilles 🙂 I will have to stock up again!

  • Jackers

I see that they’ve almost fully given up on Halloween and are almost solely focusing on the Christmas stuff. I don’t know for sure, but they must make about 60% of their total sales at Christmas.

I used to love Lush but I became extremely disenchanted with them, the prices were insanity. I can’t imagine what they must charge at this point.
