Makeup Haters Anonymous Club

Welcome to the Makeup Haters Anonymous Club.

This is where you can stand up and anonymously or un-anonymously hate all over a current product you recently used, hated for your entire makeup life, or just hate for the sake of hating on it.

You can also select a brand, any brand, and go ahead and hate on that too.

Makeup Haters Anonymous Club is here for you…it’s a place for you to rant, piss, moan, and whine about your makeup woe plus sometimes it’s damn fun to cry like a little bitch over how much you hate the mascara you spent $30 on that doesn’t give you the false lash look.

So go ahead and hate…

My pick of the week goes to…

Not any certain product to hate on today but I will hate on MAC.

I’m a big MAC fan girl but lately the quality seems to have gone really downhill! Quads are really chalky with little pigmentation, formula on the shadows seems to be really off, and almost all LE eyeshadows I’ve tried lately are pretty craptastic.

What the hell is going on?

I talk to other MAC lovers and I hear a mixed bag of “yes, you’re totes right” or “no, MAC is so SUPER” so I’m not sure if I’m crazy on this one.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Covergirl.. they have the worse eye shadow ever! I guess i am used to MAC quality but still why sell e/s that doesn’t show up on the lids!!? I just dont get that

    • the Muse

mmmmmmm covergirl I can’t remember the last time I used an eyeshadow from them, I take your word for it Ricci I bet it sucks ;-D!

    • Anne

The eyeshadow single Mink is really good!! It lasts all day and I’ve heard that Tapestry Taupe is great, too.

  • Rads

OMG…I get a little brave cos you said MAC…:tremble: :tremble: I am not crazy about MAC..:htremble: Like their brushes, though….*wondering if that will save her from the wrath of the MACaholics*

    • the Muse

LOL rads…there are ALOT of folks that aren’t really part of the mac cult, totes ok ;-D we are still mates you and I even if you hate it ;D!

    • Tammie

I am not crazy about MAC you are not alone :). I do get choice items (I have a decent amount of MAC blushes that I love, and I love my 116 brush) but I don’t get the big deal about them. I also think recently they are saturated with LE collections…they aren’t as exciting and I think the creativity and formula suffers when they do too many like that.

      • Regina

I third that 🙂 I love their fluidline but their shadows are ok, nothing special

    • darae

I agree. When I first started getting into makeup, I was all over MAC.. it’s been a year now and I pretty much prefer drugstore over MAC. It’s either pay a little less for same quality.. pay a little more for higher-end.

I have the 224 brush and its scratchy as hell….

    • SJ

Agreed!!! Love their brushes, I also like their paint pots, and I own more shadows than I should be owning up to… But they are waaaay too over-hyped, much of their stuff can be duped for cheaper.

  • Sarah S.

LOL this is hilarious, Muse! I have a list (to remind to buy from these brands with caution):
Brands that disappoint: Cargo (other people’s swatches work, but with the exception of their eyeliners this always goes all muddy on me!), Murad, Caudalie, YSL (really? So expensive but just disappears), Hourglass (leaky packaging, may improve), Juice Beauty (like water), Jurlique (like crushed up walnut shells), NARS (had several chalky eyeshadows from them, and I still HATE how gross-looking the packaging gets with powders sticking to it!), Tarina Tarantino (just overpriced, imho), Hello Kitty for Sephora (pigmentation meh), Dior (never liked any of their eyeshadows), Chanel (I’ve had several lipsticks break, the nailpolishes are often streaky, the eyeshadows aren’t that pigmented), Guerlain (overpriced for quality). Phew! Go ahead and hate on me!

    • the Muse

wow juice beauty no kid…I was going to try it…! LOL that’s SOMEEEEEEEEEEEEE list! HK for Sephora I hate on b/c it’s always so damn frosty!

    • sammie

In am curious of what brands you DO like because I want to exclusively buy those 🙂

      • Sarah S.

            Lorac
            Philosophy

  • stef

I want to hate on MAC but for different reasons…I just feel like the kinds of girls who wear MAC are the kinds of girls who wear wayyyy too much makeup…like cake on their foundation and wear blush wrong. sorry!

  • Sarah S.

Oops, not anonymous. For the record, I haven’t tried Guerlain or Chanel foundations, but I’ve heard they’re great so I’d like to!

  • Courtney

Stuff I’ve bought and hated: smashbox photofinish primer (makes me itch), Maybelline the falsies mascara (goopy and gross), Bare Minerals (gives me cystic acne), Philosophy Cinnamon Buns (doesnt smell good to me at all), Miracle Skin Transformer (doesnt do anything), Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation (just doesnt do it for me).

Another random beauty rant, I can’t wear any eyemakeup right now b/c I got contact dermatitis from an old liquid liner I should’ve thrown out ages ago. Serves me right but it’s still annoying.

      • Courtney

Thanks 🙂 *hugs back* It’s no longer swollen shut thankfully. It’s just puffy and itchy. Im usually pretty good about getting rid of things but for some reason this one slipped through. Needless to say I totally went through my makeup and started tossing stuff after this experience.

        • the Muse

thank gawd! I actually label my mascara, eyeshadows, powders….a small label with the date. It helps me to remember what needs tossing. I do the same with skincare b/c I tend to over keep things if I don’t. I have a small label maker I use that I got at staples! It sounds silly but it helps ALOT!

    • Liz!

I freakin haaaaaaaaaate the Smashbox primer and Maybelline Falsies!!!! I thought I was the only one lol. Too bad about Bare Minerals, that’s the only stuff that doesn’t break me out.

    • Christine

Ohhh, what did you hate about the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation? I’ve been dying to try it w/ my super oily skin, but haven’t yet gotten brave enough to shell out… Tell me all about it!

      • 18thCenturyFox

For the record, Tarte AC just replaced my DiorSkin Nude as HG!

  • 18thCenturyFox

I wear too much foundation AND the wrong blush but I’m over MAC currently.

  • Lisa

I hate hate HATE Bare Minerals! Makes me want to itch my face off. Also, I hate all the previous foundations that made me look like an orange oompa loompa (Covergirl is one of them. What do you have against pale people!?). I hate Stila lip pens…how does anyone like these? They are so sticky! And I hate having to peel my hair off my lips. It is so not attractive. Also, Estee Lauder, can you make any makeup that is more geared to young people? Cause seriously, it smells and looks like the 1950’s. I love Bobbi Brown but wish it wasn’t so damn expensive. And my Body Shops closed in both malls near me! So now how am I supposed to get my shower gels?! ONLINE?! I want to smell them in person before I buy….That’s all I have for now.

    • the Muse

YUP Lisa mine too! worst! makes me itch like I have a hundred tiny ants under my skin! I love the Stila Lipglaze hehe sorry!

  • 18thCenturyFox

I never like anything from Smashbox or Cargo. Dior and Chanel have
also been pretty mediocre to me. Bare Minerals irritates me and Cover Girl baffles me. I’ve always detested maybellines Great Lash. Until I tried and love Tarte’s Amazonian Clay foundation I wasn’t sure what the biggie was there, either. Nuance really irritates me, inexplicably. L’oreals lippies tend to disappoint and slip right off. I want Vol de Nuit
Shimmer rather terribly but by god are they overpriced in my opinion. Benefit has just started to regain my trust after a long boycott. Sephora for OPI has been subpar on the whole. And while I would like to try Kat Von D’s palettes I simply detest her so much! Thank you Muse for letting me get that off my chest 😉

    • Tammie

” And while I would like to try Kat Von D’s palettes I simply detest her so much! ”

Same here! I just can’t get over how much I dislike her enough to buy her palettes, even though they are really nice :(. What a shame.

      • Michelle

I actually bought 2 of her palettes as soon as they were available this fall. Then I saw my first episode ever of LA Ink. 🙁

        • 18thCenturyFox

Oh my THANK you for not letting me be the only one totally irritated by Kat Von D. Once in L.A. someone thought I was her and it kinda struck me. I don’t look anything like her I’m just very pale with similar hair. Blurg. And make that double on the Lancôme e/s pigmentation issues plus all that animal testing. I think it’s totally fair to expect something innovative/exciting/unique when you pay more for a beauty product but I feel like Elvis probably felt towards the end- it just takes so much to give me that MU “high” Le sigh

          • melissa

haha i feel the same way about kat von d! interested in the concealer but not the real life drama 😛

          • Michelle

What?!? You mean you don’t have a whole bunch of itsy bisy stars tattooed on her face like Kat does?!? 🙂

  • tina

I agree with you on MAC! I thought I was crazy too because when I was talking to my friends about them they tried to convince me that I’ve been listening to too many naysayers…

I’m glad someone else also noticed the lack of quality lol!

    • the Muse

tina it’s just been down hill for at least a year now…if not that, at least 8-9 months..the shadows are just NOT the same!

  • Tammie

Stormageddon~!!! I’ll actually contribute to this discussion in another comment, just had to give little Stormy some love xD

  • kiwikiwidragon

I will totally hate on the Elizabeth Arden Blackened Violet Eyeliner. Hard as a cheapie eyeliner, a total drag (pun intended), skippy, and rough. Kinda nice color, but what the hell is the point if it won’t go on???? Hmmmmmm……????? Complete waste of $16 bucks. Plus I got it from beauty.com and its too late to return. Waaaaaa!!!!!

  • Littlecreek

Orange lips. WTF kind of trend was that?!?

    That felt good to say.

My only real gripe right now is at Clinique. I got the dual ended black h

  • Eve

I’m glad you said MAC! I find it overrated and a lot of times uneventful. But what I hate most is going in the stores! The employees are loud as hell and pushy. Can’t stand that! It keeps me from shopping there.

    • Eve

Sorry, I also wanted to add that a friend of mine told me she used to make bets with her sister at the mall and whoever lost had to go get a MAC makeover and walk around with the ugliest, tackiest makeovers, lol.

        • Barbara

omg I’ve had one done while in high school and I never did it again. I thought clinique was going to be a safe bet but I came out with bright teal eyeshadow, heavy mascara and liner, and brownish/gold blush.

FYI my features are similar to yours so you get the idea (i.e. blonde and pale).

          • Courtney

Totally. They always want to draw thick dark eyebrows on me.

          • Mara

i did one of those mall makeover things also from clinique… i came out looking like an oompa loompa. the lady put too light of foudnation on and instead of taking it off and restarting, she just added TONS of bronzer ALL OVER my face… i had nothing to take it off wit so i had to walk around with it

  • Littlecreek

As I was trying to say, before the internet smacked me down, my only gripe is with Clinique. I got the dual ended black honey lipstick/gloss and the top of the lipstick came off and got all over the inside of my purse. Packaging = fail.

    • Sarah

The same thing happened to me! And of course since the lipstick doesn’t slide all the way down, it made a total mess!

  • 1986

Smashbox is where I started out when I first started getting into makeup. Huge mistake! They make some of the worst makeup I have encountered as far as base products. Primer did nothing for me. HD foundation was terrible. Powder had cool packaging but didn’t look great on my face. Now I just sort of cringe when I see their products in stores. Those darn holiday value kits are what lured me in. Thank goodness I learned quickly and moved on.

MAC – way way too many collections, too many limited edition items, not enough quantities on the very popular items, collections offered for too short of a time period.

Guerlain Rouge Automatiques – not one single shade in the range looks good on me.

  • Tammie

I don’t hate them, but Chanel has been really disappointing me hardcore lately…I won’t even try stuff from them even more because I’ve returned SO many things 😐

  • eight

I don’t get MAC. OK, maybe I’m talking out of my butt here since I haven’t even tried a MAC product before (no MAC stores here!) but I still don’t understand them. They release a kazillion collections every couple of months and I don’t understand why! Why so many collections????!? It doesn’t make me want to buy anything — quite the opposite. I think I would buy the Viva Glam stuff because it supports charity, but that’s it. Plus I know so many indie companies make eyeshadow that is just as good/interesting as MAC supposedly is, but cheaper.

Arbonne. I love Arbonne’s face primer, but the way the brand functions annoys me. They do the whole Avon/Mary Kay way of selling with hosts holding parties and whatnot, which is tolerable, but the information they give their sellers is terrible. MINERAL OIL IS BAD! SLS WILL GIVE YOU CANCER! ONLY BUY ARBONNE BECAUSE IT’S PURE AND NATURAL AND THE BEST! It’s propaganda and untruthful, and they could probably sell just as well (if not better) if they cut the crap.
    Rant over.

  • Caty

I will never tire of hatin’ on Maybelline Great Lash mascara. The formula is so wretched, it NEVER dries and the brush is so cheap it doesn’t do anything. Plus it smells like burnt waffles and formaldehyde. Bleh.

Also, I never bought into the cult of MAC. I can see why people go for it but it never did much for me. They have officially over-abused the phrase “limited edition.” They have a few good things but I’d rather go for some Bobbi Brown, Clarins or take my chances with beauty abroad and at least get cute packaging. Heck, even ELF has some awesome, super cheap products!

    • Caty

Just remembered another one – Korres! I tried the wild rose serum and yogurt cream and they were awful. The serum did absolutely nothing. The moisturizer was so thick and tacky and the kicker was it was supposed to be for dehydrated oily skin. Bah.

  • Fuuka

MAC. Have never liked their look or products. I knew a girl that worked at a counter and she took of her make up as soon as she got off work! She said you have to wear make up like that cuz’ it is part of the brand’s image. But their foundations are cakey and pore clogging to the MAX and all the ingredients are horrible for your skin in the long term. No matter what they tell you it NOT NOT for sensitive skin or teenagers.

  • Kylie

    this is brilliant muse!

I definitely think was a little dissapointed with chanel vita lumiere aqua. I used to love the original, but they discontinued my shade, and the new formula looks great… for about 2 hours.

People have been RAVING over it, but i feel like my dry skin just eats it, and the original one always looked great on me…

    so dissapointing.

  • kiwikiwidragon

I have never tried one single MAC item. I have been tempted, believe me…..I was saving my first MAC purchase to Viva Glam. I might get that holiday set with the two lippies. I have no opinion on their products, yet…. I will totally hate on their photos and models, F-GLY doesn’t even come close, their models need to eat some cake and learn to smile. That’s what bug me about the brand, no happiness, just awkward models and looks of starvation 🙂

    Cheers!! LOL

    • the Muse

lol jen ;-D some of their promo images are cool but yes, many are just weird ;-D it’s a good thing you aren’t, saves you $$!

    • Brittany

Oh like the surf collection! That emaciated girl had NEVER been on a surf board or in the sun.

      • S.A.

Okay, I know this is supposed to be ranting and all, but I’m kinda offended by you saying that about the model. For one, I’m looking at the promo image right now, and you can’t see that model’s ribs or jutting hipbones, or any similar signs of emaciation. Seriously, I’d say that she has a very healthy looking body, especially given how thin models are typically expected to be. So it’s really uncool of you to shame her appearance like that.

  • Vijayta

Hates MAC l.e’s . Another collection , some more l.e’s , i go like meh . I know the product is bound to return for some other collection. So many damn repromotes . Lancome has pigmentation issues and is way too overpriced. Their e.s are such p in the a to work with. And please many brands should stop mentioning they are non-comedogenic, they are not . I have gotten breakouts even from clinique . Btw its way too subtle for my taste . And lo’real tru match or any other matching stuff never matched on me ( i m a bit dark olive toned ). Whew! that was a huge rant. Thanks Muse , u ought to do this often . Love from india

  • Michelle

Hi Muse–long time lurker here! Love your blog.

Ok, you promised I could bitch and whine so here I go. I have been burned by ELF enough times now where I think they should get their own section of this club. I was dumb enough to order from them once, and most of the stuff was so awful, it went into the trash. Then I was even dumber and fell for an email promotion and gave them a second chance. What a mistake that was. With all the money I’ve spent on ELF and their chalky, poorly packaged, cheaply made, terribly pigmented, and just plain crappy products I could have added a few high end products to my collection by now. ELF is a horror show!

Also I totally detest Mary Kay. Their lipsticks have a weird disgusting smell and all of their products are way overpriced. Their sales tactics are also way too aggressive–no, I DON’T want to book a skin care class, thankyouverymuch.

Honorable Mention goes to Urban Decay’s Lip Primer. Sure, it grabbed my lip gloss like a suction cup and would have held it forever had I not wiped it off with friggin’ makeup remover (that’s how strong it was!) but the lip primer still left a waxy residue. I had to take jojoba oil and rub my lips until they literally squeaked to get the stuff off. Thank goodness I was able to go back to Sephora and get my money back. The primer also sucked every drop of moisture out of my lips! Totally not worth it.

    • the Muse

cheers thanks michelle! ha tell me ’bout…elf is very hit and miss for me too..some products, if you’re lucky are good but most are crap.

    • Ruth

@ Michelle, I thought that I was the only one that noticed the “old lady smell” of Mary Kay lippies. I had one years ago and everytime I wore it, it made my stomach roll! As for UD, I HATE their primer potion! I can’t get past the smell of it, much less put it anywhere close to my face. Their eyeliner is supposed to be 24/7, about an hour after applying, that stuff migrates everywhere!
and I think MAC is too overpriced quality of the products.
I tried one eyeshadow of Kat Von D’s and it had zero pigment, I returned that hot mess!

  • Lacey

I’m a bobbi brown freelance artist and I have to say…I give a DANG good mall makeover haha. I am the queen of the Bobbi Brown fresh faced look, its what I am know for. But I will attest from the days I actually worked in a store, there are some awful, awful, i repeat awful mall makeovers to be had.

  • Tammie

Oh a couple big single product disappointments were Shiseido’s cream eyeshadow, which I loved at first but then it got sparkles all over/under my eyes and CREASED so I had to return it…I am not a big eye person so I couldn’t eat the $25 for a product that didn’t do what I wanted (I wanted a cream eyeshadow I could just slap on when I don’t want to bother with it).

Another couple disappointments for me are in the cream blush catagory, I am really into cream blushes but anything with a soft/dry/possibly cream to powder formula just gets sucked right into my pores and fills them with the color so it looks like I have little pinpricks on my cheeks! Such a shame, I had this problem with Stila One Step, Canmake ( 🙁 I wanted to love them!) and MUFE HD Blush (the color was so great too!).

    The biggest 🙁 product of them all for me was the Skin79 pink BB cream…I want to wear something on my face, especially with anti aging, SPF and whitening qualities, but it goes all flaky on my dry spots! My face is evil, it just sucks makeup up!!! ;_;

    • Tammie

For the Shiseido, I meant $25 for just one color of eyeshadow…I still would have returned it if it was a $25 quad but I might have given it more of a chance…although the migrating sparkles was quite a dealbreaker.

  • Stacey

Urban Decay. I’ve not found a product from the Iove and they are overpriced. I KNOW they changed the formula in the UDPP in the squeeze tube vs the tube with the applicator because it does not work as well on me. the 24/7 shadow pencils make my eyes itch and the 24/7 liner disappears on me in a hour. I’m afraid to try any of their new products because everytime I do, I’m disappointed.

    • the Muse

YES YES YES they did change the formula Stacey! I’m finding even the newer genie bottles seem to have the same formula! It’s alot looser and it doesn’t hold my shadows as nicely as the old version did!!!!!!!!!

      • Tammie

I got a small genie bottle of the regular UDPP with my Naked palette and it’s all thin and greasy! I greatly prefer my $1 ELF primer x_x

        • the Muse

i like the genie bottle but looks like the formula changed in that too or I’m nuts!

          • Tammie

No you aren’t nuts, it’s definitely bad! When a $1item is much better you know something is wrong.

I got Sin and Greed quite a few months ago and they are fine, I think when they changed the packaging they definitely changed the formula in all packaging forms.

          • the Muse

I don’t get what happened…I can’t describe the exact different but it seems the formula used to me less “wet” if that makes sense?!

          • Jen

UDPP used to be my go-to until they changed the formula. Now it makes my eyes itch and swell to the size of melons. Seriously! They’ve cheapened it. The only products of theirs that I still wear are the 24/7 liners, and that’s only because I forked out that 92 dollars for the 15th anniversary collection. Also, I feel like I’m the only person that’s unimpressed with the Naked palette. It’s such a good idea, but the fallout and the shimmer is ridiculous. The shimmer also makes my eyes itch like the primer potions.

I’ll post my other beefs here soon xD gotta get through all the makeup hate.

          • the Muse

SAME issue Jen but no problem with swelling just noticed the formula is changed!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Andi

omg i have the huge professional size tube and it is HARD TO SQUEEZE OUT!!!..i resorted to softening it up in a cup of hot water then damned it and threw it in the trash. wasn’t even halfway there yet =T

    • Littlecreek

Same here with the pencil liner, however, the liquid liner they just released has been a success for me. I literally get all day wear out of it and I find the packaging (length of handle, tiny little brush) easy to work with. Worth a look next time you’re in the store.

      • Michelle

I was also unimpressed with the Naked palette. I should have tested the sample a little better in the store b/c it was a total impulse buy for me. I love neutral shadows but there were just too many warm tones and not enough cool ones. It went back to the store (unopened) the next day.

    • LollySue

You are not crazy, the formula has changed. I have extremely oily lids and for the last several years, I used the genie bottle UDPP and it worked really great for me. A few months ago, I ran out and got the squeeze tube, and no matter how much or little I use, my eyeshadow creases like crazy. Took it back to the store and got a new genie bottle, and it now has the same problem! Oddly enough, NYX has an HD eyeshadow base this is about six bucks that seems to be an exact dupe for the older UDPP, and it is working for me great!

  • kimk

I love to hate Chanel. Oh, and lemme throw in most Lancome too – This shiz is more scented than most perfumes, and I can’t deal with that much fragrance from soemthing that’s supposed to be just color!! WTF people?? Do you think I really NEED a rose scented mascara or eyeliner?? WHY?? And do you really think that charging me an arm and a leg for it is going to make me want it all the more?? REALLY?!

**grumbles off back under her rock**……

    Kim

    • Tammie

Yeah, I like rose scented stuff but Chanel (haven’t tried Lancome) takes it a bit far…I’d rather have a delecate scent it doesn’t need to be perfumy!

  • Janet Shepherd

There isn’t a particular brand I have in mind, but most high-street (drug store) brands don’t have a foundation pale enough for me. Or they’re pale enough but with a yellow tint that looks terrible on my pinky toned skin. I’ve tried almost all of them, and pretty much none of them have a foundation that matches me.

When I lived in Australia and was a tiny bit darker in skin tone it wasn’t quite so bad, but here in the UK the only good colour matches I’ve found are a Lancome liquid foundation, and the recently launched Liz Earle tinted moisturiser. Both pretty pricey – good thing I don’t use much foundation.

  • Deb

I have hated and loved so many products from so many brands that it’s just too time consuming to write about. But I will put this one out there: WTF is this trend in “must haves”?? Must have palette, must have collection, must have, must have, blah, blah, blah. This really pisses me off. Are we all one color? One skin type? One undertone? One eye/hair color? Then how the HELL can one set of anything be a must have for everybody?? Aaaarrrrrgh

    • SJ

I also love the way the new must-haves are often the same or amazingly similar to last year’s must-haves.

…. How much make up can we possibly use in the space of a year?!

  • Soo

oooh, this is fun! Smashbox, LORAC, and Vincent Longo–I don’t really hate on these brands, but the couple products I’ve tried has kept me away from the rest of their products. :/ I know that one product shouldn’t ruin an entire brand for me, I’ve just been hesitant to explore these brands more because my experience with them was just disappointing. also, this is kind of unrelated, but bad customer service really turns me off from a company, especially when it’s infuriating.

  • 18thCenturyFox

    Sorry now that I’ve started I can’t stop…

Can’t stand Bliss. All their products have been a FAIL for me. Plus naming a product “Fat Girl Slim”? Go bugger yourself. Plus I’ve found Kiehls overrated. And while I adore UD, their smoke out pencils were so poorly done. The 24/7 pencils smear on my eyes. The Stila travel palettes were such a cute idea but something was way off. And don’t hate me but while I love their philosophy and colors, all Zoya polishes have performed poorly for me. Oh and I detest Guerlains signature Parma violet scents on meteorites etc. This is very therapeutic!

  • Rachel

My biggest gripe is with MAC, though they aren’t the only company that does it, but not to this extreme. Before I ever tried any of their products, their shady business practices turned me off completely. Releasing hundreds of limited edition shades every year in very small runs (at least Nars and chanel limited eds stay in stock all season) is mostly about artificial scarcity. If you want anything from a line you have to practically stalk the release dates. Its underhanded and rude to their base customers.

    • Caty

I still have a hard time forgiving MAC over the whole Rodarte fiasco. Nothing about the situation in Juarez should serve as “inspiration” for a freakin’ makeup line. The names they chose for the colors were completely distasteful and the whole thing just made my blood boil in general.

    • SJG

I totally agree Rachel – even if the makeup was awesome, this is such a crummy practice that I don’t even want to try more than the 2 lipsticks I got (at a CCO mind you). They have some kind of balls promoting “Back 2 Mac” and being green on one hand, and releasing a bunch of LE collections on the other – most of which are dupes, most of which will probably end up returned to the company and trashed once the customer gets it home and realizes it’s a dupe. Everyone says this is Lauder’s fault – who knows.
I also want to hate on face primer. Any brand. My skin produces enough zits on its own thank you.

  • Kimber

Butter London nail polish!!!!! They cost almost as much as a Chanel polish where I am (that is too much) and the second they harden on the nail they do their best to almost jump right off of it again. No top coat, base coat or voodoo charm can keep that stuff on my nails for more than an hour 🙁

    • AD

i’ve found that they’ve chipped on me pretty fast too. i only have two colors from them that i thought was worth having. the rest of the colors are pretty meh to me.

    • LollySue

Same for me too! I got some BOGO at Ulta, and I was excited because I thought the colors were so unusual. Got them back home and 3 out of 4 were dupes for Essie, OPI, and POP polishes that I already had. Back to the store they went. The only one I kept was All Hail the Queen, as I absolutely love the color, but though it goes on like a dream, it doesn’ wear well for me.

  • Marina

    Awww! Stormy!
Okay, I can get on board with the MAC “hate”. I love the 213 brush I have, but other than that, I find everything else I’ve tried to be mediocre.
Also, my Urban Decay Prof. Size! It got SO thick! To actually be able to use the remaining product, I had to de-tube it and put it in a little jar! Counter-productive!

  • Jen

    I’m going to start big and go small, getting into the nitty-gritty of every incriminating piece of evidence. This is going to be a doozy, and I apologize if my language gets a little colorful with some products ~__~;

Urban Decay– They keep changing the formula of their products, as many have mentioned. I can’t wear any of their eyeshadows because the fallout is insane, and their primer potions make me itch and swell to the point of no return. Their mascaras also just clump the hell out of my lashes.

Bare Minerals, Pur Minerals, MINERAL BRANDS– Stop making your foundations so damn chalky. If I wanted to feel like I rubbed my face into concrete powder, I’d use concrete powder.

Tarte– Oh. My. Freaking. God. Why, why, why would you EVER put elements of bluegrass in your products? SO many people are allergic to the ‘natural’ ingredients that go into this shit. They should at least try and research natural products that aren’t wide-spread allergens. And don’t even get me started on Amazonian clay. Itchy, pore clogging, irritating. I’m sorry, but just because a product is ‘natural’ does not make it good for my skin. Seriously. The lipstains are my worst nightmare. They burn my lips and I get these little blisters all around. Ouch.

Mac– The limited edition crap annoys me. I wanted the Disney Villains collection like it was nobody’s business. But then when my friend gave me a makeover with her Mac stash one day, I realized their products not only do not sit well with my skin, but they have a really pungent smell that reminds me of a sharpie, asphalt, and other weird, rubbery smells.

Too Faced– …I have been such a fan of their packaging and makeup for so long, but, ugh, I feel like they’ve gone crazy. Their powder blushes are just loaded with shimmer, the matte bronzers now go on my skin really muddy (but I still love my leopard love bronzer set. Just SO much shimmer!), and I feel like I’m not getting any more color payoff.

Stila– I’ve never liked Stila. Their eyeliners and mascaras make my eyes water, so I’m just staying away from them. The magnum 440 marker smell is also ridiculous.

Nyx– I’m so saddened. I used their products for YEARS, and now as they make new products and the price point goes up, the quality feels like it’s going down. It just doesn’t feel like the older formulas, and some of the bright colored eyeshadows that I used to wear religiously as crease or nighttime looks feel chalky when repurchased.

L’Oreal– Lipsticks suck, mascaras suck. Foundations and blushes are way overpriced for a drugstore brand.

Maybeline– Great Lash needs to be taken off the ‘top ten mascaras’ list. I don’t think anyone here has liked it, yea? HOWEVER, I do very much love their ‘Full n’ Soft’ mascara, and Falsies on a good day. Falsies definitely requires some patience, though. And, I’m not particularly thrilled with some of their foundations or blushes.

Rimmel– All of their makeup just slides right off of me. I’m oily, but I’m not THAT oily.

CoverGirl– Only their neutral eyeshadows are worth a buy. Like everyone else said, they’re cheap, but so is the color payoff. LashBlast and NatureLuxe collections are also quite a bust for me.

Almay– Their eyeshadows are horrible and hard in the packaging. Their smartshade makeup is also not scientifically sound. It turns orange on me. DO love the Get Up and Grow mascara, though.

Neutrogena– way overpriced for a drugstore brand. Little to no coverage, and just overall shitty quality.

Revlon– My only beef with Revlon is their lipsticks. They feel DISGUSTING, and taste like burnt plastic.

Value sets as a whole– I’ve noticed value and gift sets overall just lack the quality of full sized, regular products, as though the companies lower the quality in order to make it a genuine ‘value’. It makes me sad, because brands like Too Faced make such GORGEOUS value sets, but the quality just feels significantly different.

    PHEW.
Yea, I know it’s a lot, but I’ve dabbled into everything I’ve been able to afford on a very limited budget to be frequently disappointed.

My go-to brands now are Benefit and Clinique.

    • LollySue

I hhve to agree with you on allergies and natural products that are not necessarily good for you. Unfortunately, I am severely allergic to aloe, and I mean basically all of the aloe genus, Aloe vera, aloe barbadensis, Aloe arborescens, etc. Of course, because it is such a beneficial product, companies have started putting it in almost everything. I hate getting excited about something, and going to the store to check it out, only to read the ingredients and see it has aloe! It was bad enough when it was just in lotions or lip balm, but know it is popping up in lipsticks, eyeshadows [I’m looking at you Tarte!], and just about every dang product imaginable. This has basically made all but two products and the candles at B&BW off limits for me.

  • gliteratti

I’ll admit it. I HATE the wet and wild eyeshadows. I have a bunch of the palettes and I just don’t get what people are raving about. Especially petal pusher. I was so hoping to love it.

  • Michelle

YESSS. I’m a major smack talker (bad habit) but here goes. Maybelline eyeshadows = ABSOLUTE SHIZ. How many times I’ve been suckered in by the price and the pretty colors only to be applying invisible dust afterwards. What the helllll. And Maybelline Great Lash! What a piece of crap! Like a tube of black water. Also gonna hate on most drugstore bronzers because most of the ones I’ve tried have turned up ORANGE on me. =( Other hates… not specific items, but silver, green, orange, and grey shadows always make me look cyanotic or clownish or both. Currently also hating my PF Healthy wear tinted moisturizer. It’s too pink so it makes me look dead. And my ELF HD powder breaks me out. lol

    • Michelle

Oh and I forgot! I own 2 BB creams right now (Skin79 triple functions and Tony Moly lovely BB cream), and I HAAAAAAAAAAAATE that they’re too light. 🙁 I really wish I could jump on the BB cream wagon but that market sure is hatin’ on darker girls like me. Not cool!

  • Christine

Four words: Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation. Yuck yuck yuck. Thought it would be a God-send for my oily skin & it seems like *everyone* loves it, but I was oompa-loompa orange in just 2 hours. Never, ever again.

  • Kelly

I like MAC blushes, a few eyeshadows, and some lipsticks, but for the most part, I agree with you. I find that 99.9% of the prestige brands are far too overpriced for what they deliver. I find the only two brands that for the most part deliver are Tarte – though the pop-up blushes don’t show up on me and I’m super-fair – and Buxom.

One item that I splurged on b/c I’d heard it was the HG for under-eye circles was YSL Touche Eclat. I bought two of them to try separately and mix together for my eyes. Nothing worked. They were so pointless! I wound up selling them to friends at a drastic markdown. Now I ask for samples or I don’t even bother.

  • Amy

I seem to be by myself on this but I really don’t like eye shadow palettes.
People rave about them and I DO like the colors but they never work out for me in the long run. I tend to fall in love with three shadows in a set of twelve and use only those up.
Then what am I supposed to do? I’m not going to buy another palette just for those three shadows!
I want individual eye shadows that I can depot into my own palettes and replace when I need to.

    • SJG

I like palettes because they are pretty, but I don’t buy them (except for Naked) because they’re just not practical.

  • Nik

I loved the look of Chanel’s Ombre D’Eau Fluid iridescent Shadow, ($32!), but it burned my eyes! 🙁 I tried a few different ways to make it work, I couldn’t and I sadly returned it. I have a question for you, do you remember “kissing coolers” lip balm? They had cherry cola and watermelon…were swirly, small and cute! I miss lip balms like that! I was a lip balm junkie in elementary school and those were one my favorites! I also miss the huge glue stick Bonnie Bell lip balms! They were cool because they were different!!

    • the Muse

omg yes nik you are obviously as old as me. remember the mint chocolate one? it was a swirl of green/chocolate. I can’t honestly remember the cherry cola one but def remember the watermelon one…those were the days!!!!!!!!!!!i miss those too, BB still has them occasionally. Remember Lisa Frank stickers? off topic of makeup but that was another one of my obsessions!

    • Sarah S.

I miss those kissing coolers, too! Cherry cola was yum, and the product itself was pretty. I think they were by Maybelline?

      • the Muse

hey were def maybelline I remember they had four packs around the holidays! if you check ebay they sometimes have a listing lmao! sarah how old are you that you actually remember those? ;-D I thought I was the old fart around here ;D!

          • Nik

Holy crap!!!! Weird to see, I adored those!!!!!! I was crazy over lip balms, I had a purse, had 40 or so balms and would take it everywhere with me and let my friends see. I don’t remember the choc.mint btw! Maybelline also had a mocha lip balm in a pot with a black lid that i was crazy about!!!! and my favorite jumbo lip balm was passion fruit by lip smackers!!!!! i remember the lisa frank stickers too, the eighties were awesome!!

          • the Muse

god I don’t remember the mocha lip balm that sounds awesome…wth happened to cooll drugstore beauty products like that?! mine was the traditional bubblegum from BB ;-D haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa AGREEEEEEEED! god…I could re-live those times!

  • Jenn

There’s not really any brand persay I have a hate for…certain products maybe. I think Philosophy is waaaay over-rated, their bath/shower gels hardly last and cost a TON. I do like their Purity cleanser though(see can’t hate a brand, haha) Also don’t have much love for Smashbox….just looks cheap for the price and wears gross on me. Mainly I dislike the whole “trend for the season” Trend? I’m going to wear what looks good on me and what I think is fun, not what someone tells me to. Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean I need to tone things down, darken them up or whatever. What if that doesn’t look good on ME?! Also any makeup that is overly scented…my eyes and lips don’t need to smell. Thankyouverymuch. 😉

    • Tammie

“Mainly I dislike the whole “trend for the season” Trend? I’m going to wear what looks good on me and what I think is fun, not what someone tells me to. Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean I need to tone things down, darken them up or whatever. ”

SO this. It’s raining and gloomy today but dammit I will wear my Stila Convertable color in Petunia, which is a bright pinky coraly color. And likewise I’ll wear muted colors in summer. I paid for these things and I’ll use them when I damn well please 😛

  • Kiara

MAC!!!!!!!!! Ugh <– The only way i can sum it up. I've heard so much love for it everywhere that I had to try it. Bought a Hello Kitty lip stick. Gorgeous color, cute packaging. It's Bombshell. And its hard enough for me to pull of a pink lipstick without looking like a southern belle but it creases and cracks ALL OVER MY LIPS if I don't do a lip scrub and carmex over night then oh all he double hockysticks breaks loose. :/

  • chelle

MAC foundations turn out too orange on me – and Studio Fix Powder Foundation causes me to breakout (major itching too). I think it’s an overpriced range – especially since it releases limited edition stuff practically monthly! Furthermore, I’ve noticed that a lot of their limited edition items are starting to look like repeats.

I completely agree with Lisa- Bare Minerals foundation makes me want to scratch my face off too! The itching starts within minutes of putting it on! Their eye glimmers aren’t too bad though (a smidge overpriced and messy).

  • Girl Hearts Makeup

Clinique!! I went there looking for a concealer and came out with a sunblock. WTF. I admit, I was a young teen and the salesgirl was overly pushy but she should have just given me what I wanted! The City Sheer Sunblock broke me out within a day and the formula separates so sometimes OIL comes out. Yuck!

I hate Benefit’s You’re Bluffing. Now discontinued. Paid $30+ for it and it did nothing to conceal redness.

Lorac eye primer and MAC paint pot. Not sure if I got a bad batch but both of them creased on my eyes and looked very chalky. I didn’t find MAC paint pots creamy at all. Think I’m going to try Benefit’s cream e/s and Stila smudge pots soon..

  • TK

I can’t stand Revlon cosmetics. Whenever I’m looking for something cheap and affordable and buy a Revlon product I’m always disappointed. Their eyeshadows are terrible! Once I got a palette with all shimmery pastels and every single color looked the same! The same palette also came with a liquid eyeliner pen. The pen barely had any fluid in it and it was as flakey as a fresh croissant.

And while I’m at it Loreal is on my crap list at the moment. For some reason every lipstick I have bought from Loreal (barring red lipsticks) has been frosty. What is up with that!? One lipstick that I swatched looked like a beautiful creamy pink but once I put it on my lips it was frosty! Its like any pink color I’ve bought from them is frosty. Frost is like death for lips. I can’t forgive Loreal for this. I hate frosty lipstick.

Also, Urban Decay’s Primer Potion is not on my good list. I always heard nothing but good things about it. I got a mini primer potion with the Naked Palette and I just hated it. It made my eyeshadow stick a little better but not enough to make up for the fact that it made it difficult to blend said eyeshadow.

Covergirl eyeshadow is the worst. I got a bright pink eyeshadow (almost like a fuchsia) and was really excited because I was searching for a bold, beautiful pink and I was thinking that I had found exactly that, but I was dead wrong. It was pretty much impossible to get the shadow on my eyeshadow brush! The color was pretty much non-existent.

Almay, I have hated anything I have ever gotten from them. I don’t even bother to buy anything from Almay anymore.

My last grievance is about Maybelline. Why, Maybelline, do you make foundations that are so yellow? I am very pale and I have trouble finding any foundation light enough (I’ve nearly given up), but Maybelline doesn’t even try. The label might say Light Ivory but it is nothing close to that. I will never buy any foundation from Maybelline, or a slew of other makeup brands.

Jeez, I guess once I start to rant there is no stopping it! At least when it comes to bad makeup. It feels better to get it out though!

    • Tammie

“Also, Urban Decay’s Primer Potion is not on my good list. I always heard nothing but good things about it. I got a mini primer potion with the Naked Palette and I just hated it. It made my eyeshadow stick a little better but not enough to make up for the fact that it made it difficult to blend said eyeshadow.”

I had an old bottle, and also got the bottle with the Naked palette and I think you hate it because they changed the formula, I found it was really gross and almost greasy where the old one had a bit of slip but was thicker…so it’s not just you, they ruined it~!

        • Tammie

Dunno, pretty much everybody I know (including Muse) hates the new formula. UD made a HUGE mistake!

  • Brittany

OOOOOH DIOR mascara! Such a bunch of hype! Its clumpy and gross! NOT worth the 87 dollars they charge for it… And I also bought a Kat Von D Palette that couldn’t stand alone, which is annoying because that’s why you buy pallets! I always have to get at least two other shadows just to make a cohesive look. ALSO I am getting really put off by MAC because they release a “new” collection every week! Its not fun anymore… PLUS the good stuff is always sold out before you can even get to try it out. SO THERE! 😉

  • Rue

Oh god, benefit is one that always drives me up the wall. Their primers do nothing for me and while their brow kit wasn’t bad, my drugstore kit did a better job for 1/3 of the price.

Lush is another one I don’t get. None of the products smell all that appealing to me.

  • Mia

For me it’s just high end & department store make-up. A lot of people online try to tell me it’s better than drugstore brands. The thing though is that with drugstore is that there are dupes and I’ve had drugstore work better than some high end/department store brands. With drugstore brands I can walk in, grab what I need, walk out, and return it if it doesn’t work (<which is easier said & done than dept or high end- I get snooty glares at dept stores). With a department store/high end I have to deal with associates. I have to deal with going in, trying to get their attention, having them be snooty to me, have them ignore me, getting overly frustrated for being treated like scum, and leaving without what I went there for. Yes that has happened to me more than a hand full of times at department stores. Thus I stopped going and ignore everyone telling me it's better. The one time I did cave in and try Clinique it was the worst experience I have ever had with make-up! The 3step system, Clinique all about eyes concealer, and Clinique Superfit foundation was what I bought. Everything, but the concealer, broke me out in cystic acne. The concealer didn't cover at all and I've since found two drugstore brands that are better than dupes for it that are half the price (Clinique- $16; Hard Candy Glamoflauge$8 & Physicians Formula Circle RX ~$9). I ended up returning everything while receiving rudeness & glares during the transaction. I've also had issues with Bobbi Brown counters & MAC (I've been to two different MAC; one a counter one a store) both were exactly as I described dept stores.

  • 18thCenturyFox

Yeah LORAC, HauteLook tried to redeem you but I just wasted
$$$ on useless products. My Stila smudge pots were all dried up within a month.

    • Tammie

OMG Same here! I bought some glosses from Lorac through HauteLook a few months ago, then I get them in and they are all brown toned and really not all that great 🙁

  • neutralgirl

Ok Ok. I have a few rants. I do like quite a few MAC products, but like most of u guys I too hate the fact that the collections are gone within a few weeks and the good products within a few days. I can’t keep up! Also, I hate Benefits Erase Paste. I don’t get it, it’s too pink, it’s too thick and it creases like a mofo. Also, Cargo as a brand in general. They just don’t come out with exciting enough products for me. Also, I used to to order a couple things from All Cosmetics Wholesale, but I am afraid to anymore ever since a Bobbi Brown eyeshadow I ordered was complete non pigmented chalky crap.

    • Michelle

Does this count as a rant? I’m not too pleased with ACW. The first order I placed with them got messed up and their shipping costs are absolutely ridiculous. Still, I have gone back to them b/c they have great prices on a lot of obscure cosmetic brands I love like Lola.

ACW is transitioning this month to some kind of new website/business concept–let’s see how that works out for us makeup junkies. But their shipping costs really make me cringe every time I place an order.

      • the Muse

hey michelle, I like ACW alot but I was upset a few times when I got what looked like testers….the product just looked really old and used :-/

  • LBeezey

Muse, I found your site while researching the Tarte 8th World Wonder kit this spring. Which I am so in love with, ALL of it. I cannot wait for the final shipment this month. I have gotten rid of most other cosmetics because I am now a Tarte-aholic.

After 8th WW I was sooo excited to see QVC had a new kit from Tarte… but was I the only one seriously disappointed by the Glow Your Way to Gorgeous kit?! I thought the colors were completely mismatched, I don’t think the eyeliner and shadow went together and don’t even get me started on the gold speckled lip color. Out of the whole kit I only liked the concealer and the blush. It was quickly returned to QVC!

Now I am seriously considering if I should cancel the next shipment… I think the eye colors again seem mismatch and the blush and lip color look the same as the original kit.

Someone please let me know I am not alone 🙁

    • the Muse

Hi Lbeezey so happy to meet you! thanks for commenting today and happy to hear how hyped you are about the 8th WW ;-D that was so fab! mmm I actually liked Glow Your Way to Gorgeous but def understand about you feeling it was mismatched…I thought the liner was odd too ;-D! I didn’t actually like the concealer at first seemed good but haven’t used it much since, just too thick for me :-/

  • Coco

Lorac, Smashbox, Tarte, Stila….all seem so boring to me. I’d like to try one of those Amazonian clay blushes though. Every time colors are released in a palette I’m like *snooze* same old same old.

and MAC has definitely annoyed me in 2011 b/c of the overabundance of collections being released….its like every week or so! It makes it less exciting or special. Also they need to make more of LE products that are in high demand. What is the point of disappointing so many fans b/c they couldn’t get their stereo rose or whatever the hot item of the moment may be?

  • christine

    I have a list:
    $30 lipsticks? come on.
why no lid primer that smooths crepey eye lids?
Love the Merle Norman Brand – they don’t sell on line.
nail polish that doesn’t last more than a couple days

    • Michelle

Isn’t Hourglass known for the $30 lipsticks? I admit that I’m more of a DS girl and kinda just dipping my toes into the pool of HE products (I’m too scared and broke to pay so much money right now!), but I just can’t see paying $30 for one lousy lipstick. Still, I have heard so many wonderful things about this brand so perhaps it truly is worth it.

      • S.A.

I suppose it depends on your perception of value? I would rather spend $30 on one lipstick than on several, because I don’t mix up my lipcolour. I tend to wear the same two constantly. Thus, I find it’s a better value for me to get one lipstick I will definitely use than, say, five that will mostly sit there and collect dust. Having said that… I’ve never bought a $30 lipstick.

  • 18thCenturyFox

I’m not sure I understand the hype on nail boards for FingerPaints and esp. Color Club I love China glaze but they need to spend some of their funds on decent adverts. It’s not 1989 and I’m being finicky that your displays reflect some design savvy.I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything from Almay. Avon leaves a bad taste in my mouth re: Susan Komen foundation and Walk- that $ is NOT going where it should. YSL makes me laugh with their $ 30+ barely colored lip balm and ridiculous copy. I want EL to step up their pigmentation game because I love the Surreal Violet and Blue Dahlia palettes, but they could use some assistance. UD fix the scent in your lippies, Kevyn Aucoin has the scent I think you’re looking for. Oh and Boscia- what’s the point?

On a plus note EVERY time I use my Tarte True
Blood palette I am more impressed with the shadows!

    • Michelle

Avon also had a domestic violence awareness program, I think Reese Witherspoon was the spokesperson…I wonder how successful it was in raising any $. As far as their makeup is concerned, Avon is notorious for recycling the same old crap overandoverandoveragain in different packaging and marketing campaigns, then just when you really like a product they discontinue it. Also their colors are NEVER true to the colors in the brochure.

    • Ruthless

Colorclub has AMAZING quality for a fantastic price. It’s half of what China Glaze retails for. Fingerpaints, I hear you on that one.

  • Lisa

I hate, hate, HATE Lancome Dolls mascara. What a load of caa-caa that is. It looks like a clumpy, bumpy mess. When a SA told me that it only works if you put it over another mascara, I pitched it. I am all for layering product ( I do it all the time with Bobbi mascaras, which look great alone or layered), but if one doesn’t work at all on its own, I’m not interested. Lancome – you normally have great mascara – and this was just poo.

I agree that Chanel has been hit or miss lately, and the newer lipsticks just snap off at the base. Too short of a life span for a nice lipstick.

  • Ruthless

I hate NARS price point. Why so expensive? Also your primers suck balls AND since you have no scent in your lipglosses they smell like musty wax crayons. Why do I want that scent under my nose?

I hate everything covergirl except for the new lipsticks. Drew Barrymore and Queen Latifah are not selling points for me.

L’oreal brand sucks. The color riche lipsticks smell really awful and your mascara flakes horribly. Your roller foundation and one swipe eyeshadow thingies are gimmicks. I may forgive you with your long wear lipsticks but meh.

Dior-your eyeshadow palettes are so frosty how can anyone wear them? No.

Soap & Glory-your dramatic price increase without ANY change in formula or ingredients or packaging means that I cannot forgive, and I cannot forget. While the US fawns over you for reappearing in Sephora, all along you were available at Shopper’s drug mart-AND YOUR PRICE INCREASED FOR NO REASON. From 9.99 to 14.99 for Clean on me bodywash? You go right to hell. I want to try all of your new products popping up but principle prevents me from doing so. Also your facebook pages seem to be run by dipshits.

Maybelline-why are you sucking so hard lately?

I would like to give props to Rimmel, the price is pretty low (at walmart) and the quality is good.

Benefit-why do people talk about how awesome you are when your products are so hit and miss? And EXPENSIVE. For those prices I could get clarins.

Totally agree on Soap & Glory. I had to explain the sitch to Sephora SA’s who thought the “brand looked familiar” , another SA had thought it was BeneFit. I know I’m in the minority here but I detest the smell of S&G products, I used the hand cream in the car the other day and ten wanted to vomit. I would like to throw some praise Barielle’s way because I have loved the polishes I have received on Haute
      Look.

P.S. Why do I always know more then the SAs about their products and upcoming launches? I’m guessing that may be a familiar experience for many of you.

this happens to me alot 18th…also find it happens alot with PR people I sometimes deal with. It’s as if no one knows ANYTHING about the brand they work with. Boggles the mind!

Happens to me too. The worst was when I went to the MAC counter at Nordstrom to get a blush and the 116 brush…the SA didn’t even know the brush! Like, how simple is that??? Then they didn’t even notice me in line, so I went to another counter to pay…I’m glad they didn’t get my commission, at least the person at the Shiseido counter isn’t SUPPOSED to know about MAC stuff…

Happens to me a lot too, as when I am wanting to try something new, I research it to death first. The girls in my local ULTA always ask me about a product if they see me looking at it or buying it. I’ve even helped them sell things to other customers!

I hate tinted moisturizers. All of them. They are listed as must have items for the summer but I just don’t see why.
I’m a really pale redhead and need a really high sunblock to go with it. Nothing under SPF 30. Tinted moisturizers all fall short.
I need some coverage and they cover nothing. They are also far too dark for me. At least two shades too dark.
I also don’t understand the concept of them. Moisturizers sink into the skin. Foundation sits on top and it’s makes for all sort of bad for your skin if it is absorbed. Mix them together and you get foundation that is absorbed into your skin.
Why would I want that? I have enough problems in the hot steamy summers of Texas with break-outs! I’d rather simply use a lighter foundation.

i hate Diorshow mascara. HATE IT. The brand rep told me it has powder in it to volumize your lashes and it is just too dry, clumpy and gross. i never understood the hype over it.

Bare Minerals looks effing chalky on me and no coverage at all! screw their stupid comparisons of before and after pics. in addition, the buxom line is annoying as hell. it’s all crap.

YSL mascara. for 30 bucks you get scented shizz that burns your eyes and get nothing my clumpy lashes.

L’oreal…foundations are too expensive to be called drugstore brand.

MAC…i never understood them and i never will.

Givenchy phenomen’eyes is crap! poked my eyes, and clumpy and smudgy!

clinique even better treatment. did. not. work.

Dior can suck it. eyeshadows suck.

I don’t go near smashbox. enough said.

josie maran needs to stop putting argan oil in everything. i get it. argon oil is great. but i dont want it in everything.

imma stop for now….i feel like i’ll write a novel.

ooh, I just thought of a recent thing I don’t like about a particular brand. maybe it’s just me, but I really dislike how Sigma kinda whores (is that word too inappropriate here?) out their products to popular beauties of the online community instead of just letting the products speak for themselves. I have nothing against the people who do accept and help promote Sigma, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s done in a classy way, if that makes sense. I have some Sigma brushes and they are not THAT great. they are okay for what you pay for them, sometimes of less or greater quality, but really just okay. 😡

i like certain mac product like their fluidlines and superslick eyeliners. But they have waay too many LE stuff coming out lately. nothing really excites me. there maybe one or two colors that are interesting but the quality lately just doesn’t do anything for me. i wish they took their time and worked on more permanent items with good quality rather than spit out a whole bunch of LE products lacking quality.
I have only ever tried one cosmetic item from revlon (not including their polishes). Their colorstay eyeliner was horrible for me. i have monolids and the liner felt so dry and would drag on my eye. i felt like i had to blast it with a hair dryer to soften it. i continued to wear it because i was a makeup newbie and it wore well. I didn’t know any better. i thought all eyeliners were suppose to be hard. it was hell trying to draw a cat eye with it. it was love when i discovered gel and liquid liners.
i started out with maybelline mascaras and i remember loving the waterproof formulas. but removing it was a whole different story! i decided to try the washable great lash one day and it was crap. i have sparse, stick straight lashes and this mascara completely uncurled my curl. how is this their number one mascara?? gave me raccoon eyes and the brush was effin horrible.
maybelline’s moisturizing eye makeup remover was one word: oily! it removed waterproof mascaras well but left my skin oily and my vision cloudy sometimes.

there are so many products to think of in a short period of time that i end up forgetting some. i was very excited to try Boscia’s BB cream. i have always wanted to try BB creams but never wanted to order online. it’s a good thing i decided to try a sample. sigh… there were lots of good reviews on sephora but i wasn’t one of the happy customers. when i first applied it to my face, my skin looked awesome. i had smooth skin and no visible pores. as i sat around to finish my makeup, my skin had turned a noticeable orange color. i looked like an oompa loompa! i decided to give the stuff a second, third and fourth chance. one of my friends said i looked like i was wearing a mask. i decided to swatch it on my hand, let it adjust, and then i made a new swatch next to it. the adjusted color is very orange on my skin and the fresh swatch was a pale pinkish color in comparison. if only it didn’t turn orange.
i decided to try kiehl’s tinted moisturizer after my bb cream fiasco. i was looking for sheer coverage with spf. the medium shade transformed me into an oompa loompa and the light was too light for me.
