Wet n Wild ColorIcon Glitter Palette Main Street Glitz Review, Swatches, Photos
Wet n Wild has introduced four new limited edition ColorIcon Glitter Palettes for Holiday 2011. These palettes pretty much remind me of the Holiday 2010 variations in terms of color the only difference being they are cream instead of powder.
After reviewing the Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers Glitter Palette I was pretty much prepared for these palettes.
Let’s take a look!
A six pan palette featuring glitter cream eyeshadows.
These sets are kinda dupes of last year’s ColorIcon Holiday 2010 Palettes right down to the colors (below is a photo of last year’s Golden Goddess Palette for comparison to this year’s Main Street Glitz). Each palette is $4.99 and features a six pan ColorIcon Glitter Palette and eyeliner. This palette I’m reviewing today is entitled Main Street Glitz and for me it’s the equivalent to last year’s Golden Goddess Palette but in a shimmery, glittery formula.
Formula wise these are exactly the same as the Fantasy Makers Palettes. The shades have a grease paint feel and are a heavier, richer cream base with a glittery top coat which doesn’t run completely through the cream. I’m not particularly keen on chunky glitter so it’s a relief to know you can swipe that layer off to reveal a smooth cream shadow that resembles liquid metal beneath. On eyes they have a rather wicked effect creating a metallic finish that has a shiny reflection.
Main Street Glitz is made up of some of my personal favorite shades of shadow. Vibrant golds, coppers, and fiery orange red are some of the shades included here. The colors are all richly pigmented and blend easily onto lids.
They do have a poor wear time, crease badly even with proper prepping, and fade within the first hour of wear time plus you’ll notice they like to migrate around the eye area. You might start with them on your lid but within an hour or two they have a knack for creeping to the outer corners of your face and all the way up your high brow area. Not cool.
I find the best application is under or over a shadow. Apply them on your lids and top with a powder for a more vibrant look and longer wear time. Or apply your powder shadow and apply these as an over coat to give a cool liquid metal effect. Using them in this fashion produces a longer wear time than when worn alone.
This is a kit so it does come with a small Wet n Wild ColorIcon Eyeliner. They call it a glitter eyeliner but it’s pretty much a standard creamy black no glitter here. Surprisingly it’s quite a nice liner that applies easily without skipping.
As I mentioned above these are quite grumpy. Although easy to work with and blend out they tend to migrate, fade, and crease. I use Urban Decay Primer Potion which normally sets me up for all day wear but even that can’t withstand the power of these shadows, they just don’t wanna stick around.
The colors are all gorgeous but the first two golds and the middle two bronze-y coppers look very similar when swatched and applied so it’s kinda like getting four shades of shadow and two duplicates.
- Anyone who likes working with cream shadows as a base (as a base they work out nicely but on their own they prove a bit tricky).
- Those who like to create vibrant eye looks (the colors are truly pretty and look amazing, I just wish they would stay put).
- Those with oily lids (don’t bother, they will smear all over the place…).
- Those who can’t deal with a cream shadow that migrates, fades, and creases.
- Those who aren’t comfortable with makeup Made in China.
Wet n Wild is actually onto something with these ColorIcon Glitter Palettes. They definitely have a festive feel for the holidays and they create some really wicked eye looks….but the formula really kills the deal as it wears really poorly! I’d suggest picking them up regardless as they make a great base with powders or even on top of them! You can’t really bust the bank too much by indulging either as the price of $4.99 isn’t too bad a deal.
Meh…kinda disappointed they crease so badly on me but I like them anyway….!
