Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel Highlighting Powder Review, Swatches, Photos

Ahhh the ever popular Shimmering Highlighter, it’s as traditional as turkey and dressing during the Holiday Season isn’t it? You probably own tons of gorgeous highlighters, heck, you might even be that girl that stores them away in her beauty vault and takes them out only to look at, pet, and whisper sweet nothings in their ears or you might be that daring girl that dives right into that gorgeous powder, guns a blazing!

Every year I can expect to fall in love with at least four to five highlighter powders from various brands. Be it Lancome, Estee Lauder, MAC, or most important of all Chanel…everyone has some sort of gorgeous powder waiting in the wings to tempt me come the Holidays.

For the really hardcores I bet that Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel Highlighting Powder is on your Santa list.

Jump!

Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel is quite a different kind of product. Although marketed as an illuminating powder that features soft, gentle touches of pink and pearlescenceit this one comes across more as a as a finishing powder rather than a highlighter.

This comes in a standard black Chanel compact and features a gorgeous embossed design on the powder. The design runs pretty deeply through the powder so no worries about it disappearing quickly upon first swatch. The powder does have a golden beige over spray that quickly disappears to reveal a softer shade of creamy beige underneath.

For the most this comes across as a very delicate sheen on my cheekbones. The powder is silky and blends easily, actually, this is probably one of the easiest highlighters to use that I’ve come across as I find it tricky highlighting my face without looking like a disco ball. It’s quite sheer so it does need a bit of layering to catch the light and show up correctly on your skin so do take proper care when applying and place it in the best possible spots that will capture light naturally and give your face a soft glow.

Dare I say you can probably use it as an all over powder if you’re super fair of skin since it’ll probably match your tone easily where as someone with a darker skin tone might look unnatural should they attempt it. I think the finish has more of a glow-y sheen versus full out sparkle as the only shimmer you’ll see here is that of the over spray which quickly disappears on first swipe of your brush.

The powder itself does need a little extra helping hand to get into place correctly as I felt like it looked unnaturally heavy if I didn’t blend it just right.

Overall, this one proves a very easy to use highlighter however it’s not nearly as nice as past Chanel Highlighters that I already own. I did feel like it was one of the easiest highlighters to apply and use so long as I had enough patience to blend it out well enough as it does look a tad on the chalky side if I’m not careful. The $72 price tag is a bit steep but hey, we are talking Chanel here, quality doesn’t come cheap eh?

Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel Highlighting Powder proves the most interesting and unique product from the Holiday 2011 Collection from Chanel and it might be one you want to add to your collection, just don’t expect a similar formula to highlighters past from the brand as this one has a mind all its own.

I passed this by because of the chalkiness myself. My skin tone is too dark for it and I had looked at it for my older daughter for christmas but the performance just isn’t there as with other highlighters by Chanel. I’ll look for something else for her.

Yeah, the chalkiness was the thing for me as well. I’m on a highlighter kick as the holidays come closer, I want to looks as glowy as possible! But I’ve seen better from Chanel as well as other brands that cost less. *sigh* Onwards I go!

Love the pretty embossed design but $72 is too much for my blood. My favorite highlighter of all time is Dior Amber Diamond.

I swatched this and it reminded me of a more pigmented version of Too Faced’s Candlelight glow… so pretty though, and love the embossing.
