Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser Review

Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser

Scrub, scrub, scrub…

My skin needs a good scrub to ease the dullness, rid myself of dryness and flakes, plus I don’t want to worry about the scrub I use drying my skin out further because girl, you know these exfoliators are the work of the devil. I used to be a hardcore Philosophy Microdelivery fan but I swear it was making things worst instead of better.

Moral of the story, exfoliators are great but sometimes they make dry skin even drier.

I’ve been playing around with a few scrubs lately and at the moment Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser is on my radar so let’s talk about it together?

Jump!

Although Clarins totes this as a cleanser you’ll want to use it as an exfoliating treatment maybe once or twice a week depending on your skin type. Another words, don’t rely on it as a cleanser for daily use even though it has “cleanser” in the name. If you have oily skin you can probably easily use it daily but for those with drier skin don’t attempt it!

The product comes in a squeeze tube and contains orange extract which promises to soften skin. The orange extract gives the product a sweet orange-y scent that I find very pleasant however if you’re sensitive to fragrance in your skincare it could prove irritating it really depends I guess. I personally thought orange might prove a bit much for sensitive skin but I’m not entirely sure, merely speculating.

The formula is a thick gel cream with tiny scrubbing grains much like Philosophy’s Microdelivery’s texture and feel but a little thicker. To use you simply wet your face and massage a small amount on your skin. It’ll slowly work into a lather and you can rinse.

I find the results are instant so my face indeed feels smoother and less dull after a single use. As an exfoliating treatment it proves to be one of the less stripping for my skin. After use I feel an ickle tightness but nothing dramatic and nothing a little moisturizer won’t cure.

I liked this one alot and think it’s safe to say it’ll become a staple in my Winter skincare kit. I’ve been having on and off again love affairs with a good deal of exfoliaters lately and this happens to be at the top of my love list at the moment.

Anyone every try?

I got stingy eye syndrome with this one and though I love Clarins sunscreen this didn’t make me feel as exfoliated as I like. Somewhere between here and sandblaster would be ideal!

I love this and have used it on-off for at least five years. My skin’s also dry, but can handle it twice a week, maybe even three times if it’s closer to normal and less dry. Now this might be wishful thinking, but I (like to) think it makes my skin a lot brighter immediately after use. Recently I switched to La Roche Posay’s exfoliator and found it a lot harsher even though it’s specifically designed for sensitive skin, so I’ll be going back to this. Or maybe Lush Angels On Bare Skin, my skin gets along with that one quite well too.

ljana I like to think so too ;-D my skin is dull and always looks so much healthier after a scrub with this ;-D I love Angels on Bare Skin but sadly I stopped using it, was drying me out an ickle bit ;D

I have dry skin too, but I am uber sensitive. I love Burt’s Bees Orange scrub. It’s oil based and never leaves me feeling tight or dry!

I’m back to using Cure natural aqua gel again. I have problems over doing it with physical exfoliators, so I figured I try the aqua gel again and my skin hasn’t looked better 🙂

yay! cure’s peel is great however I do need something a little tougher sometimes to get all the flaky areas!

      • kiwikiwidragon

I have the opposite problem, the peels tend to be too harsh, even the gentle ones. I prefer manual scrubs. That’s what makes us all different! 🙂

  • Ljana

I’m hoping it won’t do the same for me after prolonged use, but yes, I suspect it could. And my local pharmacy just started carrying Caudalie (oh the joy!), so I might as well be adventurous and try theirs!

    • the Muse

it used to my hg but I have to be careful with it as it does give me flaky bits if I’m not careful! ;-D Caudalie=<3!

I have been a fan of this exfoliator since I discovered it around 2004. I have combination oily skin, so my skin likes this once daily 4-5 times a week. I then use a non-exfoliating cleanser at night and on my off days. Love!

oh i love this. i had a sample tube which ran out and i ended up purchasing the full-sized one because it worked so very well on my oily skin. this is one of the rare scrubs that work really well on drier skins because it’s not overly harsh, and on oily skins as well because it gives you that much moisture without leaving too much of a residue, and clears out clogged pores.

Oh this looks promising! I have oily skin and I’ve found that a combo of retin-A and daily cleansing with cream cleanser and washrag really helps the texture of my skin. The washrag is pretty low-tech, but I’m hesitant to drop the cash on something like the clarisonic, which I’ve heard can do a number on some people’s skin. But this scrub might be a good boost.
