Miss Piggy for MAC Review, Swatches, Photos

I grew up with the Muppets, Fraggle Rock, the Dark Crystal, Labyrinth….needless to say Henson was a big part of my childhood and heck, till this day, all these shows and movies are on my rewatch list. The man was a genius.

I admit though I’m not really looking forward to the new Muppet Movie as when Jim Henson died he definitely took some of the magic of these puppets with him and they aren’t nearly as amazing as they once were. But I’m keeping hope alive that the new film will knock my socks off.

When I heard Miss Piggy would be getting her very own MAC Collection I was ecstatic. Visions of Dame Edna-like palettes danced through my head and I was thinking of an outrageous (btw would wouldn’t a Jem collection rock?) color story.

Flash forward to the actual details and Miss Piggy for MAC in reality isn’t quite what I expected.

Jump!

I appreciate MAC for bringing together my two greatest loves, the amazing diva that is Missy Piggy and my favorite makeup brand, together, two greats.

MAC did some nice work with the promo imagery behind this and they really captured Piggy’s essence. However, the fact that the collection is limited to three pieces and the packaging lacks anything special (just standard black MAC packaging) and you might experience some disappointment.

So what exactly do you get?

  • MAC Eyeshadow in Missy Piggy Pink
  • MAC Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack
  • MAC Lashes in 36

With the above you can definitely get a vibe for Piggy’s signature look as she was one for pink shadow and a winged eye look plus a full fringe of lashes but it doesn’t help my shoulders slumping and a soft sigh of sadness to leave my lips…why can’t we have more? Blush? A beauty powder? Pink compacts?

On the upside, I stink at liqud lining but the precise, felt tipped point of the Penultimate Eye Liner will make lining eyes super easy. And the full lashes will give a dramatic look to your eyes….

But I admit the hard texture of the mid-tone blue pink that is Missy Piggy Pink is a disappointing formula. The shade has the potential but the formula is oddly hard. MAC deems it a frost but it feels more like a matte and I seriously had to dig deep for the swatch you see here as it simply didn’t want to pick color up for me.

Thanks MAC for gifting us with Miss Piggy makeup but don’t be upset that I’m a little saddened you didn’t put more work into this one guys….

Miss Piggy for MAC launches November 14 for a very limited time only at maccosmetics.com

I’m so not bothered by miss Piggy… but a Jem collection would be fabulous, ,or a Red or Mokey but not Wembley…oh Fraggle Rock was the best with the obvious exception of Thunder Cats, there should be a Cheetara collection, ..Now you’ve started something Muse 🙂

    • the Muse

but you know the misfits collection would prob be heaps more awesome ;D!

  • Stacie

I love Jem, I just bought the complete series on dvd and I have the incomplete boxets from 2005. On one hand, it would be awesome if MAC released a Jem and the Holograms collection with bright colors and neon packaging. But I would be broke because I would have to buy every single item.

    • the Muse

oh thank god I’m not the only loser that purchased the dvd set LOL ;-D I grew up with Jem hahaha ;-D hells yes that would rock!

  • Sara

    Blah. That is all.

Thanks for taking the time to swatch the boringness, though, much appreciated. 🙂

  • peri

it shouldve been pinker…and sparkly-er lol. miss piggy was super glam, she deserved better lol

  • Barbara

I was excited when I found out about the collection because I love miss piggy and I thought the packaging is going to have her face on it you know like the hello kitty collection, but sadly its not 🙁 but I do want to at least get the lashes! I hope I can since its online Im afraid it will sell out before I can get it. Do you know if its kinda like the pink friday lipstick like a limited amount?

    • the Muse

it is LE but I imagine there is PLENTY to go around. I’m highly doubtful it’ll sell out due to the poor quality of the shadow and the packaging, there isn’t alot of special to get mac fans foaming at the mouth so def will be plenty. It is available for only a month though so it’s pretty limited as to when you can purchase!

  • Miss_silk

I was hoping for a larger collection with eye catching names for the products that have something to do with Miss Piggy herself. Like “Kiss the Kermit” I would’ve imagined that product to have tones of green and pink.

Like….uh I hope someone understands what i’m saying lol.

  • Jenn

I wish they had played with this a little more too..pink packaging, cute fontage….would have been awesome, plus a lipstick at least. I do like the pink shadow though, I’ve been looking for a light pink like this one. If I wore false lashes these would be cute. 🙂

  • kimkats

I can’t believe this is ALL mac could come up with for a Miss Piggy collex…. It could have been magnificent, and huge, but…. 3 stinkin’ things?? I too had visions of Dame Edna-esque packaging, but…. THIS??

    SO disappointed….

  • Ruth

I’m with everyone else, sooo disappointed in MAC!

also, I purchased one of their felt tip liners and it was an EPIC FAIL! it feathers, smears and dries out quickly.

  • SusanT

This could have been great, but it isn’t. I simply adore Miss Piggy and they should have devoted at least a dozen products to her, not a measly three.

  • SJG

Maybe MAC has finally gotten sick of putting out their neverending series of limited edition collections and run out of ideas (even recycled ones). Too bad they reached that point with a subject that they could have actually done a lot with.

  • Babydoll

A Jem collection for Mac? Dear God, if only that were true! I have never used Mac before but i they ever did Jem (or Sailor Moon ;D) that might just convert me. I do agree though, this collection was dissappointing, can you see Miss Piggy using something wih packaging as boring as this? No? Neither can I… x

    • the Muse

amen babydoll! I’d so be on that like white all over rice ;-D sad 🙁 wish it had special packaging really was a disappointment imho!

  • diane

mac blew it with this….if miss piggy was on the packaging, it would have been bought! too bad.

  • Comrade Garlic

I really think that this was meant to be a larger collection, but MAC forgot about it. Or maybe there was some sort of licensing war with OPI. It just seems so un-MAC like. Even with smaller collections MAC does more. Just a huge meh.

  • Coquette in Paris

This is so ridiculously fail 🙁 I am growing more and more disappointed with MAC by the day

  • ribbonroses

E……..PIC…………FAAAAAIIIIIIILLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!! This sucks. Majorly disappointed. I read your title and thought OMG I may have to get this, but pfffft they can keep it. I hope they have lots of excess stock of this one on their hands. /bitch rant. Hope you’re ok Muse. There is plenty of other awesome makeup in the world, and my wallet is screaming cos I’m looking at more still.
