NYX Butt Naked Eyes Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

I admit the first thing I thought off when I saw the NYX Butt Naked Eyes Makeup Palette was Will Ferrell in Old School, “We’re Streaking, We’re Streaking!”

But listen, the Butt Naked Eyes Makeup Palette is a hell of alot classier than Will Ferrell’s azz! For serious.

Let’s take a peek!

Here she is, a selection of 15 soft, delicate eyeshadows in matte and shimmery finishes, four natural blushes, one bronzer, and two face highlighters to create a natural, dare I say, butt naked face look!

NYX Butt Naked Eyes Makeup Palette is a selection of shades to enhance your own natural beauty without overdoing things. These are very soft shades of color and in some cases almost pastel-like. Darker skin beauties might not find the joy here but if your fairer or medium toned you should be able to create some very pretty, natural looks for work or day. I think the palette should appeal to the minimalist makeup users as well since these shades simply enhance rather than create bolder, vibrant looks.

I’ve embraced more and more of my natural side lately so I was quite eager to try this one out but I did head into the review knowing how bad I am with taupe application and how unflattering it looks on me. The palette has a dominate taupe theme with super soft shades of pink, cream, white and beige thrown in.

NYX thankfully left cream products out of the mix here so things are nicely packaged in a chunky two tier palette that should travel easily. Needless to say don’t toss it around but it should be portable enough to go along with you on a trip without being so delicate that things might break. It comes with a full size mirror, a tier of eyeshadows, and a second pull out drawer that features your blushes, bronzer, and highlighters. All in all it’s a little bigger than a CD case but not square in size, it’s a rectangle.

The shadows have a variety of finishes and color pay off so it’s a mixed bag but overall every single shade I tried produced promising results. I’m not a matte fan but these mattes offered a soft, easy to blend formula. Most of the mattes had a sheerer color pay off but they managed to create a very nice, brightened up eye look. The shimmery finishes aren’t really shimmer in the traditional sense but more of a velvet-y, Stila-like formula (a little lighter than what you’d expect from Stila). The entire mix of shadows on a whole felt buttery smooth, almost velvet-like to me. I thought they blended very easily and contrasted well together without going muddy. They wear time is something to be concerned about as I felt they faded and creased badly if you didn’t use a proper primer with them. So do prep well prior to keep your shadow in place all day. When I look at the shades I think of the ballet for some reason…the cool shades of silky pink, cream, and taupe remind me of a ballerina.

In contrast with the tame shadows, the blushes turned out to be a bit more vibrant. There’s a NARS Super Orgasm-like shade included here which is a peachy pink concoction with golden shimmer. Other shades include a bold, true pink, a light pink, and a dusky peach. The blushes had a nice formula with plenty of pigment however they do fade a little bit towards the end of a long day. The bronze is a typical muddy beige and my least favorite part of this palette. And finally two shades of shimmering highlighter in pale peach and white gold complete the palette. These higlighters add a nice little sparkle to cheeks and face.

Sorry, the look I created with this isn’t exactly polished but lord knows I’m no expert at makeup application plus I don’t play nice with taupes as I said above. Apologies! But I did want to include some look so you can get a feel for what you can create using the palette.

Overall, the NYX Butt Naked Eyes Palette is probably the nicest selection of natural shades you’ll find with a rather beautiful formula at this price ($25) plus it offers an easy way to create office/work related looks without over doing things. I think the palette makes an ideal pick for more mature eyes as well since the softer colors brighten up eyes without emphasizing finer lines, puffiness, dark circles, etc…!

As for me? I need alot more practice with this little guy to get things down right because I can’t help but stare at it and just love the color selection…I just wish I can apply them correctly!

It’s available now at www.nyxcosmetics.com

Will you be hauling it?

Wow, this is the first palette I have been tempted to get for a while! It looks lovely, and the look you’ve done is very pretty! ^_^

I so wish they would offer the blush/bronze bit separately. I’m not into mattes either and I’ve got enough neutrals that I love.

  • Sophia

Lovely palette! Would be so great for travelling since it’s got a great selection of eyeshadows and blushes. I’d definitely consider buying this! Thanks 🙂 xo

  • Felicia

Wow! Everything I need when I travel, except for the foundation. This is awesome. I love nyx.

  • Maria

Wow….this looks a lot nicer than expected. Might have to get it! ^_^ And don’t worry muse, you did good with your look. I’m also not a huuuge taupe fan, mainly because it disappears on my skin tone, but I think there are enough shades lighter and darker here that I could do something nice with these. Thanks for the review!!

    • the Muse

aw cheers thanks maria ;-D I think that’s my prob too, they disappear or look chalky!

My pleasure hun glad it was helpful!

  • irini

The colors look tempting, but I just bought the UD Naked palette (finally!) so I guess another neutral palette is the last thing I need.

  • Mary the Muse Militant

Gorgeous palette. I would buy this but I already have the NYX One Night in Morocco Smokey Palette and love that.
You look beautiful in those taupe colours and so love your eyebrows.

  • Eileen

I had concluded that I did not want this until you showed the swatches. Just lovely soft shades and very wearable.

I subscribe to many beauty blogs, but I can count on you to give me good information and top notch photography. Your blog is my #1! Keep the beauty products flowing…………

    • the Muse

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww eileen you flatter me so! thank you for that 😀 I’m so glad you thought the photos and swatches were helpful! I’m not much of a photograph but I TRY 😀 HUGS!

Hmm, this seems kind of nice! Think I might pick it up for Christmas, maybe.

And thank the Lord I’m not alone, lol – I always seem to have trouble picking out nice contrasting shades to pair together when it comes to creating eye looks. 🙂

  • Majick

WHile I don’t need it, it looks like a great palette. It definitely covers all the bases for a multitude of eye looks. It appears that the colors are arranged in rows of three that would each make a complete eye look.
I’ve been curious about this one. I know some of the new freebies or should I say rewards at ULTA are NYX eye shadows. If they don’t have the brush I want maybe I’ll try a couple. 🙂
    THanks for sharing!

  • Molly

I just put in an order at nyx’s website and this was one of my purchases! thanks for the awesome pictures! (btw I also orderted the satin eye liner you just reviewed too!)

    • the Muse

yay molly enjoy! stop back and tell me whatcha think of both please? curious if you like the satin eye liner chica!

  • Hekela

Thanks for sharing this, I think after numerous reviews, this palette is most deff for lighter skin tones, seems the colors are not as pigmented on darker shades. Thanks for a great post…Im convinced…I have to have it!

  • Lorraine ER

This is on hautelook right now and I think the blushes are worth the price alone! So pretty! That dark shimmery purple has my eye as well..

One question though- which of their palettes do you think is more similar to the UD Naked- This, or the Nude on Nude palette?

    • the Muse

hey lorraine this doesn’t resemble either naked or nude on nude hun!

  • Denise B.

Just got this palette from the HauteLook event, and I LOVE it! The shadows are very neutral, but every bit as creamy and pigmented as any of my high end brands. I have a ridiculous huge makeup collection, so the fact that I’ve been using this kit almost exclusively since it arrived is saying something! I always use a primer, and these shadows wear like iron over it.

  • Tracey

Thank you for saying that this would be good for a more mature eye as I’m 45 years and cannot do the younger brighter colors anymore. I was debating this palette but you convinced me…it’s next on my list.

    • the Muse

my pleasure tracey! you should also check out the new Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, it’s quite a nice pick!

  • Tori

Wow I’m usually not tempted by NYX products, but I really want this one! Plus your look is beautiful! (:

  • Karin Ho

I just bought this palette, just a week after picking up Jingle all the Way and A Few of My fav things.

I like the cool tones of this palette as I have enough of warm colors and shimmers in my other collections. In fact, this is my first MATTe color palette so the price is good. I only tried out the darkest black on my eyes…amazing for smokey looks. The name Butt Naked remind me of Butt Naked Ladies… so it is fun for me. Hope I will use this in spring when I am tired of my Fav things. Fav Things has mostly shimmers and a few matt chocolate colors. Only Creamed colored ponies is a light matt, so I will run out of brow highlighter if I pair the 19 colors with creamed ponies. This butt naked has enough pastels for me to match with my Fav Things, Balm Shady Lady 2 and others. Have not tried the blushes at all, the bronzer is a nice matt, great for contouring, I hope!

Looking at the palette, I would love to try out the vertical combos of 3 colors per day Mon-Fri!. First column looks like a true nude on nude, 2nd column a choc pink grey, 3rd column pink taupe black, 4th column beige, milk choc, dark choc, and 5th column, a white, grey and purple smokey look!

  • Karin Ho

Not a Naked series fan, but I do like greys and taupe to complement my love of colors. Usually I dont wear Naked on the own, always add a bright like green, purple, blue or even red!

The 2nd compartment is hardly touched and most of the time, I forget they are there! Just started using them, lots of powder left on the pan, has to be more careful when swiping!

  • Cat

These are at Nordstrom Rack. Same price. I passed on the palette since the colors I like are similar to things I already have. I just have to ask though, how the heck did you pull the second drawer out? I might have caved and gotten this if I could figure out how to get it open.
