Open Thread Day: What’s the Story Morning Glory?

When I was around 8 years old I fell in love with Tim Curry as Darkness in Legend.

Flash forward to 12 and me attending my first overnight PJ Party and I fell in love with Tim Curry again when I saw him in fish net stockings, a corset, and red, vampy lipstick (my mother would have died if she knew that we watched the movie at the party!). He’s since gained a good deal of weight and has a gray hair or two but when I saw him in Spamalot for the first time I literally melted.

Moral of the story is I’m not really ready to give up Halloween yet so I watched the Worst Witch late last night. How brilliant is Tim Curry moaning and groaning his way through “Anything can happen on Halloween!” Pure genius. I don’t care what anyone says that was blatantly sexual, look for it at the 2:18 mark!

Anyway, that’s my contribution to Open Thread Day today.

What’s Open Thread Day?

Why, it’s the day we all get together and start a chat fest in my comment box to discuss upcoming makeup collections, what we love at the moment in the beauty world, how the weather is, how we are doing…anything! That’s why it’s Open Thread Day!

So feel free to pop a squat, pull up a chair, grab your cuppa tea, and say hey!

Looking forward to talking to you!

Btw can we please discuss the failage that is Miss Piggy for MAC? What a sore disappointment!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Giant #fail. I’m going to create a Carla for MAC collection and pick a bunch of re-promotes to put in it. 😉

    • the Muse

don’t forget the Muse for MAC Collection which will include Tardis Blue and Yoda Green Eyeshadows ;-D I can’t believe the quality on mac lately, I could barely pick up a swatch from the missy piggy pink shadow! UGH!

  • kiwikiwidragon

It’s such a hard to wear shade of pink too! Cool Toned Blonds are about the only ones who could really rock this shade, I might pull it off as a blush.

OMG did you see the new trailer for Underworld 4??? I never saw the 3rd one, I need to catch up as the new movie looks a-mazing! DH and I watch so much regular TV, movies fall so far on the priority list, between Mythbusters, Regular Show, Adventure Time, the new Beavis and Butthead (hilarious!!) project runway, etc, etc, etc….whew, movies just never fit in, except the important ones like HP and I might go with a few girl family members to see breaking dawn, that’s a big maybe, i liked the books, but no twi-hard that’s for sure. R.Patz wasn’t my idea of Edward and neither was K-Stew as Bella.

    • the Muse

True dat…plus the formula was blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

YES! Looks increds! I haven’t seen the new B&B yet! He was on howard Stern promoting it a few weeks ago and I promised myself I’d add to tivo but I forgot…how is it?!?!?! I didn’t mind Patz as Edward tbh or moody ass K-Stew but after the first film it really started to grate on my nerves….they just went to overboard, those contacts are bloody awful! But I will def see the movie, no doubt, I’m loser enough to be all squeal-y about the film like a 13 year old…just fun seeing it brought to life. Did you read her midnight sun draft? I really wish she’d consider releasing it.

      • kiwikiwidragon

I did read Midnight sun and I really liked it. I liked the Bree novella as well.
B and B was hilarious, we laughed so hard and it reminded us of simpler times in our lives, its rare that a pointless show like that can make you nostalgic.
The previews have me all excited about the fourth movies since I feel that they got better and better and truer to the story even though there were a few parts that made me want to scream.
DH is reading Eragon and is almost done with the 3rd book. The fourth comes out on the 8th! I will finally read them once he is done. He says they are great, but the movie was a sham!

        • the Muse

I actually didn’t read the bree one, tell me more! They did but the corn factor is the contacts 🙁 They should have as is when the originally first released the film, it was more realistic for me and got corny when they added them in……I couldn’t get past book 2…I got bored, eep don’t kill me lol! ;-D the movie, omg so BAD girl!

Have you read Beautiful Creatures? Amazing new YA series! Heard they are making part one into a film!

          • kiwikiwidragon

No worries on Eragon, haven’t read it yet either but DH says that the 3 book is the best. He has hopes for 4 too.
The Bree Novella was great, it gave a look into the group of newborns and there were a few really awesome details that really made you sad for her and also a bit of inside info that you know Edward was hearing it all in her head and couldn’t do anything about it. Bree was the newborn at the end of the third book that survives and Carlise asks to be spared. Once you know that back story, it makes it that much harder, I won’t give it all away. Must read!

          • the Muse

maybe I should pick it up again…for some reason it failed to capture me. I just finished a Dance with Dragons, it was a long hard road LOL I dunno if I can take anymore dragons ;-D

Oh yeah, I totes know the back story on it just never took a sec to read the novella ;D

  • Bonnie

First order of business, Snowcake is back in stock on Lush NA site!!! So I’ve ordered a bar or five. 🙂

I’ve been enjoying the BBC ‘Sherlock’ DVDs that my mom got me a few months ago as well as ‘Doc Martin’. And BF and I just finished the first series of ‘Downton Abbey’ and surprise, surprise, he liked it as much as I did. 😉

    Have a great weekend, Muse!

    • the Muse

dude order an entire slab you can never have too much snowcake hahaha! Fantastic, the series was amazing! When it aired last year on masterpiece I promptly ordered the dvd’s too! ;-D DA was amazing, they did a very well made remake on it!

You too dear Bonnie enjoy hun! Get some fun and some R&R in!

  • Jayne

I really, really dislike the Muppets. I did as a child, and I still do, so I didn’t even bother really paying attention to the collection. (I’m not super excited about MAC ever, either. I’m just so cool. Haha.)

However, Rocky Horror? Yes please! I went to a showing on campus last week and it was soooo fun.

You know what else Halloween amazingness I got into this year? THE EVIL DEAD MUSICAL. YES. I went to two showings in this ridiculous barn they converted into a theater out in the middle of nowhere. It was SO GREAT. Two words: Splatter zone!

    • the Muse

oh I went to one to for Halloween, it’s tradition ;-D I go every Halloween! Was it interactive? ;-D I always go to the interactive showing and pack all the greatest stuff. TOAST! hehe!

      LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omg yes ;D!

      • Jayne

Yep! Instead of having us bring our own goodies, they made huge goodie bags for everyone.

But I have to say, maybe it’s my Bruce Campbell obsession (he is to me what Tim Curry apparently is to you), but I prefer Evil Dead! My boyfriend made an INCREDIBLE INCREDIBLE Ash costume this year, complete with a chainsaw hand and we threw an Evil Dead-themed costume party. Have you ever seen the Evil Dead musical live? If not, you definitely need to put it on your nerd bucket list.

        • the Muse

omg that’s brilliant! I wish they did that ;-D would be easier. I swear every year our tote bag gets bigger and bigger and bigger! Lugging that to a theater is absurd LOL! ;-D That is so amazingly fun! I love Bruce Campbell as well ;-D He’s incredible. I actually met him at a con once. I will add that to my geeky bucket list ;-D maybe next Halloween :)!!!!!!!!

  • Courtney

Miss Piggy for MAC = epic fail. Seriously, not even cute packaging. They could have done a really cute pink or purple compact, or even better, one shaped like her face. If I were do design it I would do some soft pink blushes, maybe some lilac, champagne and a more wearable pink eyeshadow, some pink lipgloss, and some kind of blue that matches her eye color somewhere. Maybe in a liner? MAC needs to take some words of wisdom from the diva herself, “There is the satisfaction of providing your public with a vision of true beautology, true sytlisity, – how can I put it? – true glamorositude.” This collection definitely did not bring the glamorositude.

  • Littlecreek

In beauty news I got the Too Faced Glamor to Go Dream Pallette and I love it. Very portable, nice formula, good buy. I also got the Stila gloss holiday collection, I’ve never owned a Stila lip gloss before and I’ve been impressed.

In other news I’ve been reading up a storm and just this week finished Beautiful creatures and the newest house of night book. BC was interesting as I’ve never read that type of book from the guys prospective. I tried to tell myself I was reading so much just cause I wanted to, but I know I’m really just preparing for the release of Modern Warfare 3 on Tuesday. That will overtake my world for a couple weeks. Whole new maps and online multiplayer changes. I’m pumped.

    • the Muse

NICE hauling littlecreek! I love stila lipglazes, that’s a great set ;-D!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy to hear you liked BC ;-D it’s a great series so far and I’m loving it. I’m waiting on MW3 because I know it’ll suck hours out of my day and I’m already cutting it close with AC, dude, I’m waiting up an hour early to play that shiz, so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off the topic of hardcore have you seen the promos and vid for Lucius? Pretty nifty if you like Horror RPG!

          • kiwikiwidragon

Ahhh, I am sure I have been kicked by now, oh well….its been a year since I logged, the expansion really pissed me off, I was just getting the hang of it and not being a noob. then whamo, Cataclysm….boo! We will get the expansion here soon more than likely….bye bye social life…

          • the Muse

i think to be considered a non n00b you have to pay 24/7 literally haha ;D

      • kiwikiwidragon

I also played horde. I had an alliance toon that was in sprocket only for the joint auction house. All my toons were named after cheeses!

          • the Muse

I used to give all my AOK characters back in the day really butch names as no one wanted to play a chick during the AOK reign ;-D So I just “acted” like a guy during online play. Ahhhh AOK those were the days!

          • kiwikiwidragon

Yup, have a hunter named Bree and her pet was Cheddar. Warlock was Mozzerella. have a priest named Havarti. and a few others I don’t remember off the top of my head. 🙂

  • lulubelle

I got a pedicure this past weekend and chose the color Warm & Fozzie from OPI’s Muppets collection. I just ordered the mini set (Muppettes) because I like that color so much – it’s a warm shimmery copper.

So that’s one Muppet’s collection that was a success (in my book)! As always, OPI’s names for the polishes crack me up.

    • the Muse

I wish I was a nail girl lulu I’d be on it like wildfire! looks so cute!

  • Cj

The last couple Mac collections have been disappointing to me. The only thing that I got that I actually liked was the Matchmaster foundation, and maybe a gloss or 2. I’m hoping the Spring collections will be better 🙂

  • Tiffany C.

Quick Muse, do you prefer the Purity cleansing oil or the MAC cleansing oil?

    • Majick

Oh, just jumping in to reccommend DHC Cleansing Oil. I’ve been using it for years and it’s def gentle and melts off all makeup. I like a lot of their products but I switch around my brands to try new things. I can honestly say this is a repeat performance and a staple on my beauty shelf.

      • Cj

+1, I recently starting using their deep cleansing oil and I already can’t see myself ever using anything else! It doesn’t smell bad, it doesn’t sting my eyes, and it’s nice and thick compared to other oils 🙂

  • kiwikiwidragon

On another note, have you seen the Horse oil products at Imomoko? They contain actual horse oil!! Not just horses on the front of the product! Yikes!

  • kiwikiwidragon

I am officially addicted to Skin79 BB Cream now! I like the Diamond and the red package ones the best. Do you have a favorite?

    • the Muse

skin79 is a fine brand my absolute favorite is the oriental gold. I personally think it’s their best label.

  • Marina

Well, speaking of Tim Curry 😉
    And speaking of Halloween.
The Friday before Halloween I dragged (no pun intended ;D) my friends to RHPS. I’d never been to a live show so I was SO excited. Definitely a fun time. I want to go again next year! Got all dressed up and did my makeup all dramatic. Was a blast.

    • the Muse

the live show is amazing marina ;-D I go every year, such a tradition! ;-D it’s a blast! glad you experienced it, add it to your yearly pilgrimage during Halloween ;D!

  • Ryan

I LOVE Open Thread Day. And yes. MAC Miss Piggy was so so sad. Why did they even bother making it? Also had anybody hauled anything from the Tom Ford beauty collection? I’ve got two of the lipsticks and I love them, but I’m hesitant to haul anything else before reviews because of how expensive it is.

    • the Muse

ugh right ryan wth? Just so awful! Not yet, wanted to check it out in person but haven’t yet, I know at LEAST one blush I NEED!

  • catazure

I’ll have to put that skin79 on my list, Muse! I was in Seattle last week and shopped the Westlake Sephora and got the Dr. Jart gold tube BB. love it so far with Josie Maran color on cheeks.
I also am a Curry-crusher. He was a total hottie in an odd way in the 80’s, even with makeup on:)
I like YA books and have been on a Rick Riordan kick lately. The 2nd book in the new co-series to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Heroes of Olympus, has come out and of course it sucked it down like a wolverine with a corn dog.
Ya’ll now have me interested in the Twilight stuff – gee, thanks, another obsession!

  • Nik

Wow, hes so frankfurter-y no matter what, he’s great! I saw RHPS in 6th grade! Seems wrong looking back now, but I truly loved it then, now the movie kinda makes no sense, haha! I also thought it was hilarious he was in home alone 2 😀

    • Nik

I think I would watch RHPS more often, but my fiancee refuses to! I had a frankenfurter poster with him making a angry face holding a cigarette, I think that’s what scared him from watching the movie! That’s ok, I would be worried if he understood Tim Currys attractiveness 😀

  • Daintynymph

No one has replied with more Tim Curry love? Absurd! It was after RHPS that my friend and I became enamored of Tim Curry, even though I’d seen Fern Gully, Legend, and other movies of his. My favorite Tim Curry movie is definitely Clue, and Three Musketeers is always fun too. Last night I finished watching The Color of Magic, and about every five minutes I would say “I love Tim Curry so much!” I think the most amusing thing in my life about Tim Curry is that whenever I mention how much I adore his voice, my goofball boyfriend makes Nigel Thornberry noises. Not exactly what I was going for, but sure why not.

    • the Muse

lol dainty ;-D gotta love TC right? ;-D Clue was so fab! LOL!!!!!!!! I totally agree, just something about his voice ;-D

  • Boone

Also, have you ever heard of/tried “water steam cream”? I’m seeing a variety sold by Baviphat, in cute round tins, but have no idea what it’s for!
