Tarte Eye Candy Waterproof Amazonian Clay Shadow Set Review, Swatches, Photos

My heart belongs to you this Holiday Season, Tarte!

You’ve made me happy with such lovely little sets at such inexpensive price tags. You’ve made my brown eyes pop with your Eye Candy Amazonian Clay Shadow! How can I ever thank you?

Have you hauled the Tarte Eye Candy Waterproof Amazonian Clay Shadow Set set?

You NEED it.

These little guys were made for those off in a hurry in the AM or for those of us who simply can’t get the concept of eyeshadow application down.

A quick swipe, a brief blend with your fingertip, and instantly you’ll have a simple to apply, sophisticated eye look! Love me some quick beauty on the fly when I’m too busy in the AM to get a look down using several eyeshadows at once. But the fun doesn’t stop there as the creamy formula can be worn alone or as a base for your favorite loose pigments, eyeshadows, or minerals.

Each swivel up eyeshadow has a lovely emollient texture that glides easily onto eyes without tugging. The shadow is soft, creamy, easy to blend, and builds beautifully. I absolutely adore the texture on these and they are possibly the nicest eyeshadow stick I’ve tried but of course, you do have to enjoy cream based eyeshadow to appreciate these to the max.

Tarte offered one of these in a past set available on QVC but never as an individual sale as far as I know so I’m quite excited about this set since it contains not one color but six different shades to choose from. Part of the appeal of the set is the fact that you get a nice variety of warmer shades of eyeshadow here.

Dry down here is about 60 seconds so you have plenty of time to apply these, blend them out, and build them out before they completely set. I find the dry down is just about perfect as they aren’t tacky to the touch for too long but leave plenty of time so you can fiddle with them and get them into place correctly before the complete dry down.

I was a little worried about trying these since emphasEYES Eyeliner is amazing but doesn’t agree with my eyes for some reason. The formula makes my eyes tear up and burn slightly but lucky enough I had no issues with the emphasEYES Clay Shadow Sticks at all. As with all Tarte cosmetics these are formulated without mineral oil, parabens, and synthetic fragrances.

I’ve tried these with and without primer. With primer I can get all day wear…from sun up to sun down these aren’t moving. Without primer (keep in mind my eyes are dry so not sure how well they will adhere on oily lids but the Amazonian Clay in the formula is supposed to soak up excess oil and keep the eye area mattified) I still manage to keep a fresh eye look from 9 to 5 without creasing or fading.

I personally loved the shade selection as they are are warm, rich hues. If you prefer more cooler tones you might be disappointed but if you love shades of green, brown, plum, etc…you’ll enjoy the selection here.

Shades:

  • Charcoal (slate grey)
  • Champagne (soft natural, creamy beige)
  • Bronze (golden bronze-y brown with gold shimmer)
  • Moss (golden olive)
  • Taupe (not really a traditional taupe, I felt like this one was a softer shade of brown)
  • Plum (vibrant plum shade)

Overall, this set offers a great selection of shades with a brilliant formula. I liked this way better than MAC Shadesticks and hope Tarte will decide to release more shades, perhaps an aqua or a brilliant teal? The set is a value at $27 as you’re getting six 0.05 shadows as a single MAC Shadestick of the same size is $17.50. The set offers a great selection to create simple eye looks for newer makeup users or eyeshadow challenged users or make a great base for advanced makeup users. I was lucky enough to get a selection to sample but I proceeded to order a back up set for myself and two other sets as gifts.

Very worth indulging in!

Have you tried Mally’s shadow sticks? How would you compare these? I love Mally’s. They are great for using under your eye for a more dramatic smokey eye.

  • diane

    your eyes look great!

i went back and forth a bit with ordering these- then i saw the presentation and was like umm why would i not get these for this value?? LOL

    the colors look beautiful.

i am splitting them with a friend though. i have the moss + plum in the cream shadow pots so i figure they are close so i will give them to her. she wants to taupe too but i love taupe so i have to see how similar it is to the shimmering taupe pot before i let it go. i kinda like the idea of having the taupe in the stick for easy application.

tarte killed me this year. i got these, the starlet and rising star from sephora..i really want putting on the glitz too but i’m trying to show a teeny bit of self restraint. lol

    • the Muse

aw thanks d! I loves ’em! ;-D they are a super value, wish shipping was free though hahaha!

KEEP THE BRONZE KEEP THE BRONZE hehehe 😀 it’s an awesome shade, so def keep it for you ;-D Tarte prob had the best sets of the season, lots of value here! ;-D

      • diane

i just got them in the mail today!!

oh man i am in love. wish i had money to get a second set. the plum is similar to a mally plum stick i have. i am keeping the bronze from this set- it is more brownish w/glimmer in my opinion- beautiful!!! and its different from the tarte bronze stick i have already LOL. I love the taupe too which is different from the cream pot taupe i have. I don’t want to part w/it but I promised my friend 3 of them. I’m obsessing over charchol- its making my eyes pop like crazy!!

  • Cait

hmm i saw these at Sephora last night during the VIB party but i overlooked them..i think i may have to go back tomorrow and pick them up while I still have the 20% off. I’m not a fan of the green and purple, but my mom wears colors like that…so i suppose i can always tie them together with a ribbon and make them a cute stocking stuffer for her! haha

  • Cait

oh darn..i just realized i saw the SmolderEYES at Sephora, not these haha. Oh well.. for $27 i should probably consider order from QVC, even though their s&h is usually a rip off haha

  • J

I’ve been trying to look on the Sephora site for this set and can’t find it! (The ones that I can find are the dual ended ones and I find they are slightly different from theses) Do you happen to have the Sephora url for these? Thanks!

    • the Muse

hi j I mentioned in the post hun they are exclusive to qvc you won’t find them on sephora.

  • kharanya

Oooh the swatches look awesome, except the brown one on the end, not a fan. I can’t wait to get mine!

  • olivia

Hi MUSE I was wondering how these compare to the urban decay 24/7 glide on shadow pencils? Are the tarte ones just as pigmented? And how similar does the bronze shade look against juju from urban decay?

  • TooManyCats

Can you clarify on the swatches which one is the taupe and which is the bronze? Is it taupe in the fourth position and bronze on the far right?

    • the Muse

bronze is the last shade on the right hand side TooManyCats and the taupe is the fourth from last on right side.

  • Tracy

Wow these colors all look amazing ! Is the tip fine enough to use them as an eyeliner rather than an eye shadow ??

    • the Muse

it’s a pretty chunky tip tracy, I always find it hard to line with a chubby tip like this.

  • coco

you look awesome in a smoky eye… that color looks great!!
I think you just sold me on these. 🙂

  • peri

i typically dont care for tarte. ive never seen anything by them i thought i needed…these might be the thing i need lol. so pretty!

  • Crissy K

Ooo that shadow looks amazing on your eyes. I wish Tarte would put all these QVC exclusives on their website. I’ve never purchased from QVC they kinda scare me even though they have awesome stuff.

  • Makedonka

Dang, relief! Thank you Muse! I ordered them (how can you resist the price tag?) but was worried because, like you mention in your post, my eyes also disagree with the eyeliner side of emphasEYES!
And don’t get me started on the morning challenges – color application most of the time goes out the door when I am in a hurry so I end up with liner only.

    • the Muse

oh gosh you too? my eyes BURN when I used the liner Ouch! but no problems with this thank gawd! ;-D ha! tell me about it…mornings are not great for me ;D

  • becky

These are sooo amazing, I have the Bronze from a Sephora set and it’s the cream version of my favorite UD shadow, YDK. I generally hate cream shadows but these are amazing. They truly glide on with ZERO tugging and blending out with your finger is so easy, it’s crazy. I can’t wait to get my set in the mail and almost wish I had bought 2 because I just love them so much. LOL

  • HapaGirl84

Muse, based on your review of this set and the Lipsurgence set I just ordered both from QVC! I can’t wait to try them out, I’ve never used Tarte before. 🙂 Thanks so much for your recommendations, swatches, and eye looks!

  • jenn s.

I feel strongly that someone should gift these to me for Christmas, LOL. I’m just in love with everything Tarte lately. These shadow sticks are no exception. Love!

  • Janet Shepherd

I’m loving the Tarte radiance set I got in NYC – the blush is amazing, and the double-ended eye shimmer thingie is brilliant on my eyes with their dark circles. It was my first Tarte purchase, and I’m so impressed with the quality of the products.

  • Majick

I must be cranky today, I keep deleting all my posts. LOL

Anywho… I think you’re eyes look great in the pic. I think the swatches are lovely. I think I would love all the colors BUT – I’m not a big cream shadow fan. I have 2 UD, a Malley, and a couple Tarte in the pots. For some reason I have a heck of a time with this type of shadow. They tug and just don’t seem to go on all that smoothly.

Maybe if I get a chance to try one first I’ll change my mind but I think I’m safe for now. (tick tick tick…)
    😀

    • the Muse

aw sorry! it’s Monday we all feel that way ;-D thanks so much, you’re too kind ;-D I used to hate cream shadows but I can’t get enough of ’em the past few years ;D!

  • HapaGirl84

OMG these just came in the mail from QVC and they are absolutely gorgeous! I love the shimmer, the complex shades, the glide, staying power, everything! I just wish QVC had better shipping rates. But the wait was worth it!

  • Victoriah

WOW! Your eyes are gorgeous, and with the addition of the shadow even MORE so. Just WOW!
I’ve bought so much Tarte this holiday season and am so happy with all of it. How can I not buy with these deals? I thought it might spoil me on buying more at full retail, but honestly, since they’ve been so lovely with all the pricing, I am SURE to patronize them more in the coming year.
    I’m all Tarte’d up. 😉

    • the Muse

aw thanks victoriah! I agreed, Tarte is def great this year, so many super sets and kits ;-D Love!
