Tarte Eye Candy Waterproof Amazonian Clay Shadow Set Review, Swatches, Photos
My heart belongs to you this Holiday Season, Tarte!
You’ve made me happy with such lovely little sets at such inexpensive price tags. You’ve made my brown eyes pop with your Eye Candy Amazonian Clay Shadow! How can I ever thank you?
Have you hauled the Tarte Eye Candy Waterproof Amazonian Clay Shadow Set set?
You NEED it.
These little guys were made for those off in a hurry in the AM or for those of us who simply can’t get the concept of eyeshadow application down.
A quick swipe, a brief blend with your fingertip, and instantly you’ll have a simple to apply, sophisticated eye look! Love me some quick beauty on the fly when I’m too busy in the AM to get a look down using several eyeshadows at once. But the fun doesn’t stop there as the creamy formula can be worn alone or as a base for your favorite loose pigments, eyeshadows, or minerals.
Each swivel up eyeshadow has a lovely emollient texture that glides easily onto eyes without tugging. The shadow is soft, creamy, easy to blend, and builds beautifully. I absolutely adore the texture on these and they are possibly the nicest eyeshadow stick I’ve tried but of course, you do have to enjoy cream based eyeshadow to appreciate these to the max.
Tarte offered one of these in a past set available on QVC but never as an individual sale as far as I know so I’m quite excited about this set since it contains not one color but six different shades to choose from. Part of the appeal of the set is the fact that you get a nice variety of warmer shades of eyeshadow here.
Dry down here is about 60 seconds so you have plenty of time to apply these, blend them out, and build them out before they completely set. I find the dry down is just about perfect as they aren’t tacky to the touch for too long but leave plenty of time so you can fiddle with them and get them into place correctly before the complete dry down.
I was a little worried about trying these since emphasEYES Eyeliner is amazing but doesn’t agree with my eyes for some reason. The formula makes my eyes tear up and burn slightly but lucky enough I had no issues with the emphasEYES Clay Shadow Sticks at all. As with all Tarte cosmetics these are formulated without mineral oil, parabens, and synthetic fragrances.
I’ve tried these with and without primer. With primer I can get all day wear…from sun up to sun down these aren’t moving. Without primer (keep in mind my eyes are dry so not sure how well they will adhere on oily lids but the Amazonian Clay in the formula is supposed to soak up excess oil and keep the eye area mattified) I still manage to keep a fresh eye look from 9 to 5 without creasing or fading.
I personally loved the shade selection as they are are warm, rich hues. If you prefer more cooler tones you might be disappointed but if you love shades of green, brown, plum, etc…you’ll enjoy the selection here.
Shades:
- Charcoal (slate grey)
- Champagne (soft natural, creamy beige)
- Bronze (golden bronze-y brown with gold shimmer)
- Moss (golden olive)
- Taupe (not really a traditional taupe, I felt like this one was a softer shade of brown)
- Plum (vibrant plum shade)
Overall, this set offers a great selection of shades with a brilliant formula. I liked this way better than MAC Shadesticks and hope Tarte will decide to release more shades, perhaps an aqua or a brilliant teal? The set is a value at $27 as you’re getting six 0.05 shadows as a single MAC Shadestick of the same size is $17.50. The set offers a great selection to create simple eye looks for newer makeup users or eyeshadow challenged users or make a great base for advanced makeup users. I was lucky enough to get a selection to sample but I proceeded to order a back up set for myself and two other sets as gifts.
Very worth indulging in!
