Wet n Wild ColorIcon Glitter Kit Tinsel Mall Review, Swatches, Photos

Wet n Wild has introduced four, limited edition Glitter Kit Eyeshadow Palettes for Holiday 2011. I’ve already reviewed one of these for which was the Main Street Glitz color selection.

I also picked up Tinsel Mall which is a complete reverse of Main Street Glitz as it sports cooler tones versus the warmer shades in Main Street Glitz.

Let’s take a look!

These palettes are around $4.99 each and feature a six quad ColorIcon Palette and a mini eyeliner pencil. The sets are pretty much of a cream shimmer version of last year’s Holiday Collection as the shades are very similar to that past collection but just the shadow formula and finish has changed.

Those familiar with the Fantasy Makers Glitter Palettes that Wet n Wild releases traditionally for Halloween will completely understand the texture of these shadows as it’s basically the same formula as those palettes. The shadows have a grease paint feel and are a heavier cream base with a glittery top coat which doesnt run completely through the cream. I love shimmer but Im not particularly keen on chunky glitter so its a relief to know you can swipe that layer off to reveal a smooth cream shadow underneath. The shadows remind me of a liquid metal and have a really shiny, metallic finish when applied correctly.

No matter how much you prep and primer these have a rather poor wear time and crease badly within an hour or two of application. They have an extended wear time with powder over them but you’ll still see pretty much the same creasing results within two hours or so of application even than so not much better results.

Colors are vibrant, have good color pay off, and a dramatic finish but I thought Tinsel Mall was lacking in formula a tad. Compared to the other palette I tried these shades didn’t have as smooth a finish and as you can see in my swatches they go on a bit chunky. The cream seems a little harder as well which either proves that after a few weeks (I’ve had mine unopened since October 5th) that these will harden up or perhaps it’s just because Tinsel Town isn’t on par with Main Street Glitz.

This set is a bit cooler as it features traditional smoky shades like black, silver, and white plus blue, purple, and pink. Honestly, I prefer more warmer colors but you can definitely create a rather dramatic smoky eye using some of these colors combined with powder shadow.

The kit also comes with a mini Wet n Wild ColorIcon Eyeliner. They call it a glitter eyeliner but its a creamy black sans sparkle or glitter. These liners always surprise me as they are quite a nice liner that apply easily without skipping and wear well on my waterline.

Tinsel Mall proved disappointing for me where as I actually appreciated and liked Main Street Glitz even though the wear time simply stunk. I’m not sure if the formula was just quirky here or if I waited to long to use the palette. I’m hopeful it’s just the formula but if I snap out of denial I’ll readily admit that cream shadows need good packaging to keep them fresh and true to format and in this case I imagine air got into the palette and simply morphed the formula.

Oh well!

I have two more to try so we shall see.

Have you tried the new Wet n Wild ColorIcon Glitter Kits?

What did you think?

Do share!

I picked mine up at Harmons.

I was waiting to read that you poked yourself in the eye with the black colored pencil they threw in there as eyeliner. They must have stepped up their quality?

that was AWFUL! that pencil was terrible ;-D these minis do not have the same formula!

I hear that of the glitter kits, Tinsel Mall is the worst as far as formula and pigment go. 🙁 Sad day.

*squee* I don’t care if it’s shit. I still want it. Nobody around here seems to be carrying them yet though…. :\

I like Wet ‘N Wild because they’re always pretty inexpensive with their products. I need some shimmery new colors. I try new looks at Taz with their makeover tool though, it’s pretty cool.

I was never a fan of cream shadows because they tend to crease a lot. Now that I have read your review, I’d rather save my money for better products than this one. Do you have other recommendations?

Have you tried the new baked shadows or the matte palette Muse? If so, whatcha think?

    • the Muse

matte I’m so not into Jenn but trying hard to track down the baked without success. checked every walgreens in the city and nada!

yes it did show that it got chunkier. I always wanted something that is a bit lighter even if applied. but i love the colors.
