Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Review, Swatches, Photos

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lip Colour why you so beautiful but so very dry? I hate mattes but now I tried you and I’m a believer I can do matte…but why you so dry?

Sniff!

Chanel has introduced a selection of limited edition Rouge Allure Velvet Lipsticks with a matte finish and an intensely pigmented formula.

Props Chanel, this formula hits pigment out of the ball park. You have to love a lipstick that delivers rich, saturated color in a single glide. The formula is lightweight, velvety smooth, and glides on lips like butter. The light texture is virtually weightless on lips and wears so very comfortable. I think the glide is simply incredible as these truly are an outstanding formula in the fact that they apply so flawlessly and smooth. The wear time is worthy of a rave as well as you can get at least five hours in and even after fading you’ll find the shades leave pigment behind that stains lips.

The problem?

The matte formula promises a moisturizing finish but around the first hour of wear I start feeling the formula drying up on my lips. On top of this you really want to have a smooth working surface during application because they will accentuate dry, flaky skin. If you’re prone to drier lips this will probably aggravate the issue and make things even worst as the formula just has a knack of sucking the moisture right out of lips.

Swatches from left to right, top to bottom:La Sensuelle, La Ravissante, La Caline, and La Somtueuse

Of course, a little gloss on type does aid the dry issue but defeats the purpose of a matte finish lipstick. Overall, I’d say that Rouge Allure Velvet is a beautiful matte formula but it does fall victim to the typical issues with such a formula…dryness. You might overlook the drying formula for the long wear and incredibly light formula that’s a pure joy to apply but if your lips are already dry do be aware going into a purchase as these won’t do them any favors.

Rouge Allure Velvet is available for a limited time from Chanel.

the two on the right are simply stunning! I hear what you’re saying about having to prep the lip and get all of the dry and flaky winter mess off first. I just purchased the most beautiful red matte lippie from MUFE in moulin rouge and before use, I scrub those winter lips with Lush scrub so my surface is prepped and primed for RED!

absoluteeeeeeeeeeely essential to prep prior to use b/c man they look gross on dry lips :-/ ack!

I KNOW! it’s grosser than gross to have a beautiful color but have lip flakes detracting from it. blech!

try applying a teeny bit of aloe (without alcohol) to the lips before application!

I swear by that. It even help prevent the chapping of my skin for the entire day.

I’ve got two of these and I think I’m getting one more. My lips are not dry so I have no negative experiences with these lipsticks. They’re a godsend for me when I need to spend 3 teaching hours talking non-stop without the possibility to reapply my lippie.

Do you know any more affordable dupes for these? Idk if it’s the lighting or your skin against them but man are these gorgeous. The only one I’m not totally loving is La Somtueuse. The drying this doesn’t bug me cuz I wear lipbalm underneath my lipstick. Have you tried Blistex raspberry lemonade blast? Omg, so good and so lemony, Blistex has coconut oil in it too so be careful not to put on too much (like I did once, I put on a LOT though cuz I’m use to using my EOS that isn’t super slick) it made my lipstick so slick it almost was melty on my lips.

Since they offered complimentary shipping and little extras I broke my “No Chanel” rule and got La Fascinante and I love it so! Even friends of mine who know jack about make-up and consider anything beyond DS m/u a ridiculous extravagance took note of this lippie. It’s so pretty and wore very well on me. This also managed to cheer me up during the two weeks my DH was in the hospital. Even he took notice of how pretty this unusual red was. High praise indeed!

I loveeeee these. I have two true loves when it comes to lips. Matte reds and pink glosses and not together.. usually anyways. I have only bought one but more will be in my future. i found smudging just a tiny bit of a plain balm in the middle of my lips right after application helps with the dryness. I like regular chapstick or the original Fresh sugar. Blistex orginal worked good too as it is a “dryer” balm. Just a teeny tiny bit and it helps a big bit 🙂

I own La Somptueuse after having avoided this formula because of all of the reviews that they were drying, but I didn’t have any problems with it. I’m lazy and have lips that are prone to dryness and flakiness. It may not be the same for the other shades, but I found it to be a very easy to wear red because of the way the formula feels so lightweight that it’s almost like a stain. It also didn’t fade funny or leave me with some icky ring.
That said, though, I think I lucked out with that color in particular but don’t think I would chance it on another shade!

Yeah, I purchased La Sensuelle and never had any issues with drying. I’m so sorry to those that do, the color payoff/pigment is phenomenal.

Only matte lipstick I ever use are the Shiseido Glowing Matte. Not very many colours, but the coral-red is a staple of mine. Glad that the Chanel Rouge line is expanding though. I loooove the Shine version.
