L’Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Blush Review, Swatches, Photos

My understanding is Maybelline is dicing their Dream Mousse Blush. If you’re partial to it and are curled in a little ball crying your eyes out at its possible demise its ok, here’s a tissue, now clean your eyes and rejoice in L’Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Blush. I’m pretty sure this isn’t LE and should cure your cravings for Dream Mousse.

I’m not partial to L’Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation and the blush is pretty much the same formula which means, you guessed it, I don’t like the blush.

This blush is available in four shades in a special collection called Magic Lumi. I’m not sure if this collection is limited edition or not but I think most of what is being offered in the display will probably end up part of L’Oreal’s general catalog later in the Spring/Summer of 2012.

This is very creamy whipped up mousse style blush. No doubt the soft, air infused formula is whipped up to perfection. It’s soft, easy to blend, and in my experience doesn’t accentuate problem areas. The finish is very airbrushed and perfect. My problem with the formula is it feels a bit like a silicon primer. It has a soft powdery feel that I’m not terribly comfortable using or wearing. Granted, it’s virtually weightless but for some reason it just feels odd on my skin. This is by no means a problem with the formula it’s just I don’t personally like the texture of it.

Now the lighter feel of the formula also means the wear is shorter. I can normally get all day wear from a blush in many cases and it’s rare I need to touch up but this seems to fade within four hours. For me that isn’t a great wear time as I’m not one for touching up my blush as the day progresses so it’s odd looking in the mirror and seeing blush free cheeks.

The packaging could be a bit of a rant for some since you do have to dip in for application which makes these glass jars a bit impractical in terms of bacteria, germs, etc…

I picked up two shades which were Angelic (dull beige peach) and Cherubic (dusky pink). Cherubic is a nice flush of natural pink but I don’t recommend Angelic as it comes across as a duller orange-y peach, not very flattering. Pigmentation is a bit on the sheer side but builds easily enough however be careful not to over do it as it layers a bit strangely and leaves behind a powdery, uneven look. If you’re looking for a lot of pop and color pay off here, you won’t get it. The finish is very natural and simple.

Overall, L’Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Blush will make someone very happy indeed, I’m just not that someone. The formula isn’t for me sadly. If you’re a fan of Maybelline Dream Mousse this is similar but with a lighter texture and feel. If you’re not particularly a fan of silicons in your makeup you might not love the texture and feel, that was my main issue. However, no doubt they have a very soft, creamy feel that’s pleasant but just not pleasant enough to convince me to wear them.

I just recently got those Maybelline dream mousse blushes on clearance and liked them quite a lot. I’m probably going to haul all of these if I see them bogo half off 🙂 Thanks for the swatches, Musey xoxo

I think I still prefer powder blush, although I do like the Illamasqua cream blushes very much.

I love cream blushes but I haven’t gotten used to the 1 Maybelline mousse blush yet…I’ll have to give these L’oreal ones a shot since they seem to have much less shimmer.

oh wow for some reason I though that these were just the maybelline ones remade and repackaged. hmph. don’t know how I feel about that.

the colors are gorgeous though! would you say the peach looked more natural or the pink?

I kind of like the Dream Mousse that my friend bought me so I might pick up at least one to try it out. I really like that pink one.

    Thanks for the review, Muse!

These were one of the only things left in the display case at my local Walgreens. Maybe for a reason…?

I just bought it in Celestial (after seeing it on Katherine McPhee at the Golden Globes) and it is gorgeous. It’s a “glow from within” kind of color (I’m NW 15). I’m afraid I might have to buy a back up of this one.
