As you know Physicians Formula has two new variations of their Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Eyeliner Trios available. We took a look at the Nude variation last week and today I thought I’d swatch up the Smoky Eyes set.
Take a look!
I mentioned it before but these eyeliners aren’t really my cuppa tea. I’m not particularly impressed by them overall and the new Universal Looks Trios are probably the worst offenders.
The Smoky Eye Trio is a selection of silvers and blacks for using to create a traditional smoky look.
The value here is great even though Physicians Formula has raised its prices recently. You get three eyeliners for $9.99-$11.95 depending where you purchase so that breaks things down to around $4 for each eyeliner. That’s a nice little deal as each eyeliner is 0.03 oz in size.
The packaging gets a grade A from me as they have a swivel up design that also includes a sharpener stealthily hidden in the top of each pencil. I love mechanical eyeliners however I don’t love ones that do not include a sharpener so Physicians Formula definitely gets my approval for including one.
The formula for me is the real issue. The liners typically have a fairly creamy texture that smudge easily and wears quite long without any problems. However, I’ve noticed these new Universal Looks Trios have a drier formula and the colors aren’t quite as pigmented and come across a tad dull and uneventful. I thought the texture of the pencils drier than usual so they had a fair bit of tugging involved to apply and were extremely difficult to use on my waterline.
- Natural (silver)
- Playful (pewter)
- Dramatic (black)
Overall, I didn’t feel these were very special. If you liked the originals do be aware as this is my second try with the newer shades and the formula doesn’t seem the same to me. It’s a deal yes but I’m not willing to recommend them just because they are inexpensive.
