Bobbi Brown Rose Gold Shimmer Brick Compact Wild Rose and Rose Gold Swatches, Review, Photos

Ah Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks! So beautiful but so challenging for me to use. I’m very heavy handed so I tend to over do highlighters plus having a rounder face I never really know exactly where to put these. I normally smile really big and bounce my blush brush on the apples of my cheeks. Probably the completely wrong technique for blush and highlighter application but I’m no expert!

But…there’s just something about Shimmer Bricks. I feel like I NEED to collect every single one that comes out and of course the new Shimmer Bricks released with the Rose Gold Collection are just stunning.

Take a peek!

Upon first inspection of both the Wild Rose and Rose Gold variations of these new Shimmer Bricks I was a little let down as I thought perhaps they looked a little too familiar to shades I already own. But after trying them I was completely delighted how much different they appear on my skin.

Wild Rose particularly struck me as dupe-able but it actually applies really bright and beautiful on my cheeks and I can’t easily say any of my other Shimmer Bricks look the same. The graduation of shades starts with a light pink, and moves into a beige pink, deep rose, dusky rose, and bright rosy pink. I think the name is particularly fitting as truly it gives a Wild Rose finish on cheeks, deep dusky rose with highlights of lighter pink. I liked this Shimmer Brick the best and felt it embodied the idea and concept of the collection. In my photo below I kept things very light and applied the new shade of blush Bobbi recently introduced with Neons and Nudes, Nude Pink, on my cheeks. Nude Pink is such a light shade it makes an excellent base for the Wild Rose Shimmer Brick as you aren’t starting out your application with a loud, vibrant blush and this gives Wild Rose the chance to shine. I dusted Wild Rose on the apples of my cheeks using a fan brush and it intensified Nude Pink in a major way and gave just the right bit of sparkle. I don’t think I over did it and it looked like a nice finish to me, not too disco-ball or overly shimmery. But I’m not an expert at application so you might feel different about the look I created. I tried to recreate the bronze-y rose lip look the model was wearing in the Rose Gold promo image but it proved impossible sadly. So I used one of the new shades of lipstick with this collection in Nude Rose and topped it with one of the new glosses in Pink Cocoa.

Rose Gold is a selection of almost pastel light, creamy beiges, creams, and peaches. This shade selection will look best if you’re looking to lighten up your look or add the right touch of highlight and glow on darker skin. I’ll do a Face of the Day using it shortly.

Overall, I thought Wild Rose was a true keeper. Rose Gold is equally nice but if you have to choose one I think Wild Rose should be it. Yeah, we own a ton of pretty highlighting powders and we surely don’t need more but who can resist when they are as stunning as these.

Loves!

You look fab Muse! Ohh I really like the Wild Rose, although I thought I would like the Rose Gold more.
In your opinion which shade do you think will be better for medium skin?

    • the Muse

thanks Noelle your very kind to say so 🙂 Depends on the look you’re going for hun. I’m medium fair, dark undertones and I liked both. If you prefer peach blushes I think Rose Gold pairs up beautiful with those and if you like pink blushes wild rose looks nice ;-D

  • Laura

I haven’t been able to get on the shimmer brick train – just too much shimmer for me 🙁 But you look absolutely lovely!

    • the Muse

same laura I tend to over do it and sometimes Bobbi’s bricks look frosty on me! but I love them so 🙂

  • Lauren

You look beautiful, Ms. Muse! I love the lip with cheek: it’s a very pretty balance. If it makes you feel any better, I’m kind of an idiot about blush. Which is ridiculous, right?! I almost always just use some blush-bronzer hybrid dealie like BB Maui or Antigua because i can never get blush-blush just right. Anyway, I thought for sure I liked the Rose Gold better, but you make a strong case for the Wild Rose…

    • the Muse

aw thanks lauren thank you very much! no I am too, you’re not an idiot at all, just one of those things! I LOVE the wild rose so far 🙂

  • HapaGirl84

Love the look on you! Wild Rose definitely gives a nice flush with some sparkle, and I looove me some sparkle! I can’t wait to see the other FOTD with Rose Gold.

Needless to say, these haven’t hit the UK counters or website yet but when they do I’ll be buying. I’m a lot older than the Muse and should probably let the shimmer go but I love the healthy, glowy look I convince myself they give me. Along with Nars Multiple, I think the Shimmer brick is one of the most versatile cosmetics to throw in your handbag.

  • Vail Valley Girl

I fair skinned. Not albino but not olive. Maybe 2+ shades above albino but not medium.
Any idea on how it would work to just simply this and use the Wild Rose as a blush? I like to keep my routine simple and tire of layering on products.

    • the Muse

it would probably be a bit too shimmery for all over blush vail. you can maybe buff it out if you like but if you’re fair with red cheeks you might find wild rose a bit too much to undertake.

  • JenJ

Oooooooh decisions decisions! I’ve been getting more and more on the highlight train and it’s Bobbi Brown! I like both of them *head palm* Looks like a trip to the BB counter in is order.

Muse, you look like a “glittering prize” ! Just like my favourite song. I have to say you have the most amazing eyebrows ever. Bobbi Brown just might get some money out of me this month 🙂

  • Lauren

I went to Nords the other day and, even though I’d been sooooo excited about it all week, I ended up being underwhelmed by the collection in person. The Bricks, in person, were too much like the regular ones (Rose Gold and Pink Quartz swatch almost identically), and none of the lips were very interesting after all. I was disappointed and left empty handed!

  • Gabi

First I just have to say I am obsessed with Rose Gold jewellery so I got extremely excited when I saw the Bobbi Brown Rose Gold collection 😉
I must get my hands on the collection asap! I am extremely fair (and I mean, Snow White aint got nothing on me!), and I get red cheeks very easily…However I also look sick when I wear anything beige or yellow.
Which one do you think I should try? I usually stick to pink but I dont want to overdo it with my pink cheeks…

  • Samantha

Muse, you look simply gorgeous! The Wild Rose pairs beautifully with the subtle lips and eyes. I have an olive complexion (medium/tan in BE, nc35 in Mac) and also had my heart set on Wild Rose but after seeing the entire collection in person at Macy’s BB counter, decided on Rose Gold which is just a tad more subtle for daywear. Also got the new shades of Rich Lip Colors in Wild Rose, Nude Rose, and Pink Peony. They’re so very beautiful with the Rose Gold shimmer brick!

    • the Muse

aw shucks thanks Samantha 🙂 I think Rose Gold would rock on olive skin ;-D I thought the colors of the lipsticks were a bit off for the collection though, know?

  • jody

Here is my problem with being a maniacal MSF collector. I have a bamillion of them and other highlighters. It has been so hard resisting the pull… I must stay strong. Then the little devil on my shoulder whispers, “psssst! You don’t have any shimmerbricks. Lookie at how they shine and lookie at the pretty colors”
    Sigh…
You do look gawgeous. What are you wearing on your lids? The color is sooooooo pretty!

    • the Muse

aw shucks thanks jody, a shade from the clinique strawberry fudge palette from last christmas ;-D I’m the same, I always tell myself NO more highlighters but I’m so tempted by all that glitter!

  • Christina

Ooooh muse!! I wanted to get only Wild rose, but now i think i will have to get Rose gold too. I love your application! My best results with the shimmerbricks are this: I apply bronzer to contour (or leave this step out), blusher right on the cheekbone I think where you applied it, and with a different blush the shimmerbrick (wiping in it twice or three times) on top of the cheekbone (which overlaps with the upper half of the blusher and goes slightly above). Also, I apply the blusher on the apple of the cheek and blend backwards, and the shimmerbrick I start at the outside of the eye, get the most product there, and blend inwards. I think its the lovely BB MUA who showed me this. I never feel so pretty as when I apply it this way :)))) Also, it looks lovely on photographs as long as I do not swipe the highlighter on more than, say, twice on the face.

oooohh I want those shimmerbricks :)) my favorite highlighters. I think I have 5 already 😮
Muse, what do you say about the Estee Lauder gelee highlighters in comparison to these? They look lovely, i saw them here on your site for last year and you said there would be new ones this spring.. curious, but if i have to choose I’ll stick with my shimmerbricks 🙂 thanks Muse!

    • the Muse

aw shucks thanks I thought I went a little overboard Christina! I have to try your instructions, I can use all the help I can get applying these ;-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I use a fan brush, it helps keep things mimimal as I’m very very heavy handed! Those are considerably different I reviewed the gelee highlighter a bit ago, you might want to search the archives, it’s alot more shimmery and texture is kinda creamy…it’s very nice! 😀 they have a bronze one for spring. But the two products are quite different imho 🙂

thanks for the tips christina so helpful!

  • Christina

p-s- the model on the BB promo wears a colour called Desert Pink from what I read, with wild rose on top. It’s an interesting blush, very muted. Coincidentally the BB MUA recommended this to me before Christmas. It’s a drastic change for me as I only wear very bright corally/pink blushes normally. I will have to see if I like this one better on myself with the Wild rose highlighter 🙂

    • the Muse

me too Christina, I wear popping pinks on my cheeks and corals ;-D I’ll have to pick it up as I wanted subtle under the Wild Rose Shimmer Brick, as too much pink overdoes the look, as you can see I went overboard in this photo ;D

      • Christina

I tried the Desert Rose yesterday -without the Wild rose highlighter, for now. I think this will look extra nice with little spring cardigans and skirts, actually. I like it way better now than I did in the middle of winter 😀

Can’t wait to go to the BB counter!!

        • the Muse

I need to check it out now christina, I don’t believe I own that shade already ;D!

  • Vail Valley Girl

So, I went to Nords yesterday wearing Plum Shimmerbrick from two years ago. I had them apply it on. I was told that I could wear it. This artist is good. I will come back another day and have my favorite artist apply it without any blush and then see how it looks.
At first glance, I like it better than the regular rose shimmer brick. It does not have the white in it.

  • Melinda

They look so pretty on you! I tried Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer a few days ago and the SA completed my look with one of these shimmer bricks. I didn’t pay attention back then but at home I realized it looks pretty. I think it’s Wild Rose 😀 I have to get it really~
